  1. Altyd!I've taken up the dream to cycle to Amsterdam this summer. There's a beautiful cycle route all along the coast, through the dunes and over some amazing bridges. It should take me a day or 3.
  2. Visiting friends in Rotterdam, such a cool city and great for cycling
  3. did I take the wrong bike or the wrong path? http://i65.tinypic.com/2dl3eif.jpg
  4. beautiful summmer evenings here in Belgium, those evening rides are fantastic
  5. quick evening spin last night
  6. I just fell in love with your Mika, what a cuty pie!
  7. here's my fluffy friend. He recently lost his alpha position in the neighbourhood, the poor thing. He tries to scare the new cat away, but the new cat is not very impressed. I think it might be a stray cat so the new cat is very keen to get to the food. Also, our other cat is friendly with the new cat but not with our dominant cat.... The social life of cats, very complicated business!
  8. I once was chatting with a girl at the vet's. She had a beautiful husky with her. She told me she could only work parttime because he needed 3 walks per day of at least 2 hours! and even that didn't wear him out on some days. I really love animals but I wouldn't want to shedule my life around them so drastically, that's a bit too much.
  9. it seems like she'll need a bigger bike soon! Girls with bikes rule
  10. yip, fortunatly, I've got a great physio-therapist, he works miracles. I'm now cycling on my regular city bike and that goes fine. The road bike will still have to wait for maybe a month or so. I'm looking forward to longer rides in the summer...
  11. still recovering from knee surgery, did 10 km yesterday. It felt more like a victory then some longer rides I did before. This is along an old train route that's now a walking and cycling path. I love the old bridge
  12. 5 weeks after knee surgery, finally back on my bike!! Only 5km and real slow but I 'm really happy. ????
  13. All the dads and mums here should check this instagram, those little ones can't cycle properly but look how they master those trails! So cool! https://www.instagram.com/p/BT6b1efFoG7/
  14. big kudos to all the daddy's and their boys I really shouldn't visit this topic anymore, it just hurts! This is the only bike-action I'm getting these days. It's been a month since my knee surgery. I just started with this spinning machine yesterday. I can make a full circle but really slowly. It will take maybe another week before I can get out on my regular citybike. And my road bike...? I really miss it
  15. Absolutely, totally agree. Even Madiba said is "education is the most powerful weapon to change the world". I've read " a long walk to freedom" a few years ago too, very impressive reading as well. Is that compulsary reading in SA schools nowadays?
  16. Because I have too much time on my hands now after knee surgery, I have lots of time for reading (and writing on message boards ). I just finished "Born a Crime" by Trevor Noah. Enjoyed it a lot, funny and gives me an extra insight into South-African society after our wonderful holiday in March. I already knew Trevor Noah from the Daily Show and some of his stand-up comedy. I didn't realise he came from such a poor background. What a career he's made for himself, respect!
  17. That's just mean! ;-) I think there's a big SA conspiracy against me riding. Last Monday, we were in Drakensbergen near Royal Natal NP. Lovely day for a ride.... until you get to the local MTB rental...closed on Monday! Tsss
  18. @two wheels good, Out of your total spending, just a tiny bit was the entry fee. Do you really think a refund of 1000zar would make you feel less frustrated? As for the guaranteed entree: as an international, there!s no problem to get a place and I think a lot of internationals can't make it every year
  19. Well, we made most of our day: hiked up Lion's head, also a first experience, chatted with some other disappointed cyclists, had lunch and drinks at the Waterfront, and are relaxing at our flat now. I am still very very gutted to have missed it but I don't see it as a waste of money or time. I love CPT and I love being here. We're still enjoying our holiday, we're healthy and we have a home to go to. Count your blessings. 2 years ago, I didn't think I'd be back here already. So who knows what will happen....
  20. We're flying to Jozi tomorrow. We'il see if we can get some cycling done later on our trip. Here's a stupid detail: I bought the official jersey and now I will feel stupid wearing a jersey of a tour that didn't happen
  21. True that! I'm still very frustrated about not riding but it's nothing compared to losing everything you had.I'm still on a luxury 3 week holiday in one of the world's most beautiful countries, nothing to complain about. However, I still need a few beers this afternoon to wash that frustration away ;-)
  22. :-) Nee man! I love South - Africa. And if I can't ride like a flandrien, then maybe I should drink like a Belgian
  23. What are you all doing for the rest of the day?
  24. Think about it from the organisation side: it's the 40th edition, a celebration year, they've worked hard all year, you don't organise this over a couple of beers. There is so much at stake for them: their reputation, the bad publicity, financially,... So no, I don't believe the political argument. A lot of bad luck, factors that come together. K@k!
  25. Is the fire in Houtsbay under control? I can imagine the fire and that wind together..... you don't want that on your route. Would it be stupid to do some cycling on my own today?
