  1. Make use of the containers for checkpoints 2 to 4. If you plan for a 16 hour ride then I suggest lights at checkpoint 2. We collected our lights at checkpoint 4 (Bergplaas) last year. We arrived as the sun was setting and completed the race in just under 13 hours. Cruising down from Bergplaas in the dark was out of this world! Apart from some energy bars for emergency I would not pack any food. In fact I have never eaten so much food during a race as I did last year! There is more than enough food at the checkpoints. But do take enough water with you, I had 2 water bottles & a camelback. We had no technicals last year as the terrain is not hard on your bike - it is more a tour than a MTB race. There are no rocks, roots or singletrack, so the basic tools distributed amongst the team should be enough. Enjoy!
  2. Any idea what they retail for?
  3. I've been a subscriber since the first issue. Only once did I not receive an issue, I e-mailed tread and they sent me another one & included a R150 meal voucher as well. Great service and great mag!
  4. Well done & thanks for the feedback, have been keeping an eye on this topic hoping you would let us know how it went.
  5. Great story, I am glad to have such a great citizen as yourself in my neighborhood.
  6. Started on my mate's Giant Alias in Majik Forest 2 years ago, did the MTB Argus 24km (that seemed like a long distance) on it a few months later. He was on a Anthem, but I did not even spot the difference as they were both Giants
  7. The Zula is a great choice, upload some pics for us once the bike is build.
  8. My boet picked up a lekker commuter bike from a hubber in JHB for me, now we need to get it to CPT. Any advice on the best way to courier the bike from JHB to CPT? Or are you guys aware of any bike shops that will be willing to pack the bike and courier it for me? Thanks in advance
  9. Tried one today for a short ride and I must admit I was very impressed. You won't find a dual suspension 29er with those components for a better price.
  10. I have seen some LBS with a gell padded sit bone measurepad (I am not sure what the actual name is), but they can accurately measure your sit bones and recommend the best saddle for your skeletal construction. It looks something like this: http://bicycleseatreviews.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/sit-bones.jpg
  11. And in Cape Town there is currently a UCT/MRC research study and they are looking for cyclists between the ages of 18 and 40 to do 5 x 40 km time trails (separated by a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 7 days - all time trials are performed in the laboratory). In return you get a report that includes Maximum Heart rate, Peak Power Output, VO2 Max etc. Let me know if you need more info.
  12. Any idea when the 29er Kwela will be available?
  13. Just had a look at my stats on GarminConnect. My top speed for the year was 238km/h . and my second highest was 72km/h at the Amarider 100 Miler.
  14. Sounds good. I commute from Tableview, will try and meet up at CTICC.
  15. Magiclights are great! I used mine during the Transbaviaans and the standard battery lasted until the end. I used the last charging station for 10 minutes and that gave me the extra few minutes I needed. But my light has been cutting out with my morning commute since then. It is currently with the Tygerberg MTB club (they had a special on the lights a couple of weeks ago) and I will be receiving a replacement shortly. The light might not be indestructible, but it is capable enough and the after sales service is amazing.
  16. I just had to read this tread for tips on resting while going uphill but alas it's about resting after going uphill. I agree that a HRM helps you to pace yourself. This weekend at the Burger I had to force myself not to climb flatout during the first few climbs. I was climbing at 90 - 95% of my max and never felt that I needed to rest after a climb.
  17. Mine comes from my wife after she recovered from the shock of finding out how much I spend on my bike.
  18. LOL, he is even the enforcer when it comes to his jersey
  19. Ja, Bakkie is the enforcer, but instead of getting under the opponents skin, they have sussed him out and seem to be getting under his skin. He might still be in the RWC, but needs to be dropped until he can behave himself. Danie and Andries are able replacements.
  20. I have a XTC myself, love it. This is a very nice bike, I am sure you had lots of fun building it. Now you gotta take her out for a ride ...
  21. Send you a PM
  22. Thanks! The maps look great!
  23. Great! Can't wait. I love Hillcrest and it is so close to home.
