  1. My last interaction was very disappointing. Every step of the process took several days. Then there was a warranty issue, more days per back and forth. I’m done.
  2. I do puzzle at how some companies manage to ship comparable items for under R100, where as others seemingly charge comparatively high fees.

I added bungi cords to the handle bars, and down to the load bars to damped any wobbling (or around the bike frame and to the load bars), and a ratchet tie down (the rope ones) on each bike, also attached to the load bars, to help keep them in place. Would definitely wrap something around the contact points. Did 7000 km around SA and Namibia like this with two bikes on the roof.
  5. All I recall about Upington is that it was hot. Very hot. Hotter than a Durban curry. I don’t think I’d survive cycling there.

  7. Hi All, Looking for a non-boost 27.5 QR FRONT mtb wheel with 6 bolt disk mount (don't need a disk). Want to see if I can mullet a 26er, a mini-mullet. Based in Westville. Cheers, Here's to the weekend!
  8. As per bertusras above. Load bars that attach (clamp) to your rails, and then a bike rack. I've done this for years now and far prefer it to the tow hitch option.

  10. Very interesting and totally depends what you want. My ride out rides many people on her 26” XC bike. There are plenty of used wheels, forks and shocks available. And new as well. It’s not that hard to have people bring in “gifts” from across one of many oceans; just a bit of forethought... Sure, 1x12 is very nice, I like my 27’5 wheels (now also seem as too small by many). But if a 26 will get you out there having a good time, why not? I have no doubt that a skilled rider could outperform me on a 26” ????????‍♂️ Three bikes for the price of one sounds like fun if you want three bikes with out a mortgage.
  11. I’d have a close look at all the components, so many bike come with low end brakes or suspension parts which are expensive items to replace. Do any of the bikes have dropper posts? Other things, cassette, chain, chainring will need to be replaced. Agree with the above, see if any 2019/2020 stock is around, I got a great deal on a Giant demo bike. Personally, I like the Trance rather than Stance, different suspension system, and a bit more relaxed head angle. 1x12 is cool, the standard for now (1x13 in gravel bikes?). I ride a 1x11 and will replace it with a 12s when it wears out.

  13. Cool, thanks for the input. Yes, this happened about 8 hours after the 200 service. I’ll take it back and see what’s up ???? Just means a bit of down time as so many shops send the shock/fork away for more in-depth jobs. Any suspension specialists in KZN to go direct??

  15. It’s a DT Swiss rear shock, not a fork though.
  16. Hi All, I have a shock that is not rebounding: it compresses but rebounds very very slowly (rebound adjuster makes little difference). It was serviced (200 hr) a couple months ago. Took the air out and put it back in in 50 psi steps to see if that helped...it didn’t. Any ideas??
  17. Morning Duane, As I said on the evening you dropped off the bike, I did appreciate your efforts, and the gesture of fitting the brakes. For me though, it was just the last straw when they too were dysfunctional. As I have said, this is not intended as a malicious attack in any way, but an account of my experience. Although I appreciate your offer to rectify the brake issue, is has been sorted out some time ago. Regards, Errol
  18. I was told, by the shop mechanic, that the nipples get corroded by the sealant, and that is why they were breaking. I have never had a nipple corrode from using a tube. I see this as a negative (tyres going flat overnight following the tubeless conversion is also a negative, in my opinion, as this has not happened with tubes). I was told that tubeless tyres are lighter for not using a tube, and that this is a good thing. At my weight, and given I do not make a living by winning races, more weight from tubes that don't corrode the nipples means less time fixing nipples, and more time riding for fun. I would see this as a positive. Since my new wheels have been built I have had no issues with sealant corroding the nipples, or the tyres losing pressure overnight. I have been told the stainless nipples and the sealant used should not lead to corrosion. With regards to being uninformed, perhaps. However, I don't profess to to be a specialist when it comes to bicycles. That why I rely on people in bike shops who, given their occupation, should be more knowledgeable than me. I have my own field of speciality as I am sure you do, and like most people, can't know everything about everything, all the time. Frankly, that gets exhausting.
