  1. thanks Dirtbreath, done Mankele before and it is AMAZING! the ride down from the tower back to the camp is just awesome! want somewhere at the coast though
  2. Thanks Iron, I'm so excited by the feedback I want to go NOW!!!
  3. thanks guys.I'm going to go down for about 5 days or so and I'll split the time between Giba and Holla... appreciate the feedback and advice.
  4. Thanks Tombeej, have you done any riding up here in Gauteng? If so, anything you could compare it to? I spend 90% of my time in saddle at Van Gaalens, and that's pretty much what i'm looking for... somewhere you can get decent distances in with awesome flowing singletrack(and lots of it)
  5. I'm planning a couple days away from work at the end of Nov, a couple days I'd like to spend on my bike... i want to do nothing but ride. I'm pretty keen on Holla trails after reading the write up in the new Tread. I just wanted some input and advice from those of you who've been and ride there regularly. is it worth the trip down?
  6. A friend wants to get her boss something MTB'ing related for his birthday. The guy's just started, but apparently has all the basics. She's asked me for some ideas, I suggested a customized cycling shirt (if anyone does do "one of" designs?) or a Camelbak. Otherwise I'm stumped, the rest of my brain runs wild with thoughts of a garmin 800, Topeak bike stands, Crank Brothers Cobolts, S-works Prevail etc.. way out of her R1000 budget. any ideas? (The guy's just started, rides uncleated and mostly along the Spruit, if that helps)
  7. Very Nice jc! love that colour!
  8. Thanks .... it's the same as my avatar. it's an ambiagram of my late brother's name.
  9. Thanks! Took it out yesterday, didn't do anything hectic at all, just a mild 20km...but HAD SO MUCH FUN! I felt like a kid again, riding around , jumping pavements, ramping driveway edges... it was awesome!
  10. just wanted to share with you guys what i landed up doing.... https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/85763-post-your-mtb-ss/page__st__120 Abel, Thank you!!
  11. My old hardtail that I made into a new toy... thanks to inspiration from my friend j_a_n (with a before pic of the bike)
  12. my 2c I run Mountain Kings front and back. Had them on for over a year (just recently replacing my worn rear with a new model Mountain King) and never had a problem, love these tyres.
  13. Thanks for all the feedback everyone. Its been really helpful.
  14. I know it grates hubbers when the same old questions are asked over and over. I've searched , perhaps not hard enough because all I find are Cycleart & TokenFreak, is there anyone else. but I want a frame resprayed (building up a SS) nothing fancy or custom, just a single pearl colour, with a decal either side of the downtube. any suggestions? Gauteng based. Thanks
  15. you're right! but nowhere close to as much as trying to keep up with you on your SS! I'm seriously considering converting my old hardtail to an SS!
  16. Thanks
  17. A long long time ago in a land far far away (Krugersdorp) a Samoan prop called The Magalies Monster met a beautiful Russian gymnast called Van Gaalen's Concrete Road&Dagga Pad (i know it's a weird name, but aren't all Russian names weird?!?) and they really got on well... so well in fact that they had a child and this child, they called, Kings Kloof. Kings Kloof had the aggression and intimidation of The MM and the finesse and rhythmic flow of the VGCRDP (if you read this, it sounds Russian and all makes sense ) I got to meet Kings Kloof today.....and about time! Being a Krugersdorp boy, it was long overdue. I spend as much of riding as possible at Van Gaalens and am often weary of trying new places because if it's k*k then I've wasted VG time.... well, i definitely didn't waste any riding time today. I must've missed out on a bit of the black route as i only got around 17km, but they were not 17 easy kms. they were definitely 17 FUN kms! my HR average was 87% and that was with stopping quite a bit to take in the surroundings and try familiarize myself with the place. I'd definitely recommend KK to anyone that's comfortable with technical routes. just prepare to max your HR on the uphills and more then likely red line yourself on the downhills (respect them!) congrats to Delwyn & Dean on a job well done. I'll be back!
  18. ditto ditto ditto!!! https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/99012-van-gaalens-new-trail/page__st__20__p__1425970__fromsearch__1#entry1425970
  19. Thanks guys , I'll pass on the info.
  20. A friend of mine is doing the tuckshop for the Dome to Dome (i think it is) He asked me if i could give him a top ten list of drinks and snacks cyclists would like, so as opposed to carrying a million items people won't be interested in, he'd rather do his best to carry fewer items , but more of what cyclists would like. suggestions?
  21. My mate Shaun and "SingleSpeed" j_a_n at the start of the DaggaPad descent
  22. agree about riding through the rivers... but i'll save that for summer. was -3 when we got to VG at 630 on Sat morning most bridges are back now, par the one where the old steel gate used be... but further down the floating bridge is back , so you can cross from north to south without having to get your socks soaked.
  23. Had another great ride at VG this weekend, although i came home feeling rather inadequate ..... j_a_n rode with us this weekend to see what VG's all about... we did concrete road, daggapad, railway and came back along the river.. a nice, fun 37km ride... only difference is, j_a_n... did it all on a SingleSpeed, & we were playing catch up to him the whole time hats off to j_a_n, who also did the Magalies Monster 40km on the SingleSpeed well done! VG is the best
  24. Ditto! I've dealt with Lizle on a couple occasions and the service is always brilliant.
