  1. At least he's trying something and not just complaining about his salary. If you don't have positive comments why waste your time to actually make a comment - rather use the energy to support the oke
  2. If the lack of funding on the E-tolling system is being subsidised by a fuel levy(as some have mentioned on the hub as well as elsewhere) then are we Cape Tonians not getting screwed over by paying for roads that we'll probably only be using once or twice a year? Just a thought..
  3. TNT1, please get some manners or at least bit of an EQ when you comment on what others have to say.
  4. THis is a awesome way to start off my monday! The OP took a v-clip of some random guy on a bicycle that was just not visible(which we all agree is preetty stupid) and now he gets knocked around for name calling and not stopping, getting out of his car in night time(and possible getting a beating by the random guy) as well as his speeding habits.. Come on guys. If you can honestly say you've never EVER gone 10% over the speed limit then let rip but in my opinion even the most law abiding citizen stuffs up now and then. Give the guy a break and rather support him in his effort to promote safe cycling. We all need it. Enjoy the mini week!
  5. Shotgun, First off - Welcome to the worlds most awesome sport! Most of the people involved in the sport will be helpfull but you will find the odd a$$hole that's been riding for a few years that thinks he knows all. Not pointing fingers but it seems some of them have already commented on this thread. Secondly - With 10k you should be able to buy a nice setup with the bare necessities you mentioned. I ride a 26" MTB but I've heard many guys saying that for endurance riding a 29" works like a charm. Have a look at the Axis bikes - they seem like very good value for money. If you can stretch your budget slightly you can buy something that will last nicely. If you're ever around Durbanville area and want to ride Majik forest just PM me and we organise a ride. Good Luck with the W2W!
  6. Bit late on the reply part but this frame looks very much like a specialized frame if I'm not mistaken.. According to ebay the landed price will be in the region of R3800. Not bad considering you can do your own graphics and name design. Will definitely consider this for my next bike.
  7. I'm 1,95m tall, hoping to do the ride in +-16,5hrs. This will be the only bike for the future in the garage.
  8. So the Ideal would be to go full sus 29er with lockout at the back?? This exercise could become costly
  9. Going to do the TK but I'm not sure if a dual suspension would be advisable or rather a hardtail. I'm willing to spend a bit on a new frame as the rest of my setup is quite nifty in my opinion. Any advise from anyone with some experience in marathon riding would be greatly appreciated.
  10. Scuzzy, fully agree with you on this one. I'm not that busy at work during the week but still needed to leave everything for almost 2hrs to stand and get my number. If no goodies are supplied why not let each entrant collect on race day(logistics can always be figured out). As for the other comments about why we want goodie bags, if they don't like an unexpected "gift" sorry but I like a suprise every now and then(even though I paid much moola to enter the event). Just human nature I guess. My 2 cents.
  11. Nicely done!
  12. Hi C, Did not check your route. Do you have a site or google map link I can take a peek at?
  13. I've been riding there all my life and have never avtually felt threatened by anyone but lately I've seen some characters hanging around with no apparent purpose(Exercising, nature photography or the likes). I live around the corner near the church so I make it a point to find out what the are up to as my family's safety is also important. At least the Kenridge Neighbourhood Inniative sorts unwanted visitor out fairly quickly. Try and ride with a cycling buddy an all should be ok.
  14. I Think BB29 needs some of this.. I live in Durbanville so let me know if I can help at all. Have a few friends in Gordons bay that's a bit rough around the edges
  15. Sounds like a very nice ride - to be honest the distance is one thing that prevents me from doing the ride. For now that is. Have family in Hermanus and friends in Gordons bay so we're thinking about doing a ride like yours but from G-bay area. Any advice on the route to take?
  16. How was the ride? Interested to do it over a wekeend in Feb as I need to put some miles on the sticks I call legs
Happy Riding! P.S. Don't take offence when someone makes a joke about us "Northern imports" - I'm from Limpopo originally but been living in CPT for over 30years and still get ripped by my buds
  18. Have done the grease thing(running genuine magura pads on currently)but worked for a few km's only. Think I'm popping down to CWC tomorrow and getting new pads - maybe that will help..
  19. Ok, I can try that! The worse that could happen is I burn the garage down and claim a new bike with a different brake set
  20. My back brake makes one hell of a noise when I use it - be it downhill, level road. I've cleaned pads and rotor and even had the spokes tensioned again as the manual mentions this can cause sqealing. At the moment it feels as if the whole back of the bike wants to dissintegrate when I brake(I also wake up half of the neighbourhood in the morning!) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
  21. My wife is superfast uphills but slowish on singletrack and DH thus we nearly always end up finishing the same time after a race and enjoying a beer together. On Casual rides we ride side-by-side and just try to enjoy the training. My opinion is to try and ride terrain that suits both of your riding styles thus giving both a chance to ride his or her speed.
  22. 1) Casio G-shock, for work 2) Nautica, for watersports and fun 3) Police, for the evenings out 4) Polar CS300, she stays on the bike.
  23. Liked the old logo much more and as previously mentioned on the thread the new one does not exactly embrace the feeling of mountain biking in south africa.. Although addidas is not longer involved I'm sure we as Thehub members could've come up with a few excellent designs that Kevin and co could've chosen one.
