  1. I sincerely hope you don't hold any position of authority in the justice system.
  2. Ritchie Porte gets popped then rides back! Wish I could do that. He gets my nomination for loads of guts today.
  3. Sky already had 2 guys pop. This is not going to work for them. Nice weelie Sagan!!!
  4. One other thing I know is I will do my best to finish work early and be back at home no later than 15:00
  5. I have no idea what to expect from today's stage. I never expected Daryl in yellow. I never expected GE to win the TTT. I never expected Sky to crumple. I never expected Kittel to win 3 stages. I never expected Saxo to attack and AC to take time out of Frrome on a flat stage. I never expected to see Cav sprint to get into a winning echelon on a windy day. I KNOW NOTHING. That's all I know.
  6. Just 2 weeks ago a lot of people, myself included, thought Sky was invincible. Strongest team ad supporting the strongest rider. Remember how they dominated the Dauphene and no one was able to make a gap. Now they are looking like an English cricket team. What happened to the feeling that they rode on power meters and had so much info on all there competitors that the racing was going to be boring and by the numbers? Fantastic Tour. Fantastic sport
  7. Sky in big trouble. No matter what punishment Saxo are enduring it is way worse for Sky. Never expected them to crumple like this
  8. Contador riding hard in the front. He is such an exciting competitor. You can never all it over with him in a race.
  9. Thanks guys. You are correct of course. Got my Omegas muddled up. Meant 3 and not 6. Makes sense what you say about way too high levels of Omega 6
  10. Question about Omega 6 from fish oil. Supplements made from fish oil more specifically. Report out on Sky TV yesterday that it has been linked to a 73% increase in some types of prostate cancer and a 43% increase in all types of prostate cancer. Havnt found the supporting study being quoted. Actually have yet to search for it. Having a work crisis at the moment. Mention this as I know that Omega 6 supplementation is fairly popular and I think quite a few people on this thread are supplementing Omega 6. Another study I did come across though seems to indicate that salt intake is unrelated to increased BP. Another myth apparently. I know my BP plummeted with weight loss. Apparently that is the key factor.
  11. My motivation began when I did a medical for life cover. I was turned down. That means the actuaries calculated my risk of dying was so high they would not make money on me. Gave me a huge wakeup Lost 20kg and kept it off. Normalized my BP. Got an exercise program going. Stopped drinking. Got more sleep As for motivation there is the carrot and the stick. The stick is your lifestyle is killing you. Not it is going to kill you. It is killing you. Sorry to be blunt but that's the reality. The carrot is waking up and feeling bloody marvelous. You don't know how good that is until it happens.
  12. Funny you should bring it up. I did experiment with kefir a few months back. My research indicates that it is healthier than commercial yoghurts as it does a better and more complete job at converting lactose and sugars and so on. It is very sour which I don't have an issue with. It was easy to use and to get going, a friend gave me the "seeds" as they call them. I never stuck with it though. Reason is when I tried it it tasted strongly fermented. Further research indicates it is in fact slightly alcoholic. I don't drink any alcohol at all for religious reasons so that was the end of that experiment for me. My wife who does drink found it a little sour for her taste.
  13. If they keep quiet they are supporting doping and are lying cheats. If they talk about doping and get it out in the open they are back stabbing scum cheating on there friends and are still lying cheats. Boy am I glad I have never made a mistake in my life or I would have to buy in to all that rubbish about forgiveness and not judging others.
  14. I'm hoping Daryl has a good TT. He was a big part of OGE winning the team TT and he will be in SA colours being the current TT champion so Go Daryl.
  15. Used cold water. Looked up three recipes and they all called for cold water. Not sure why. From the taste and consistency it seems there a process of dissolving rather that a tea like brewing thing going on if you know what I mean. I did grind the almonds to a flour first. Can't really help with the baking thing I'm afraid. Although I do contribute on this most interesting, helpful and constructive thread I am not on a low carb diet. I just happen to agree with a lot of the principles and find some commonality. I am most interested in making my own food at the moment. As in Pasta from flour. Butter from cream. My own icecream and so on. Posted the thing about the almond milk after it came up in a post. Don't mean to distract from the aims of the thread however so apologies if what I post is not relevant to the thread.
  16. I did a little experiment this evening with almond milk. My wife is not fond of milk, says it makes her flemmy. Took a cup of almonds and stuck them in my thermomix blender. Ground them to flour then added 5 cups of water and ran the blender again on high speed for 20 seconds. Produced a very palatable milk substitute. The instructions were to strain the fibre out to produce a smooth liquid but I have elected to put it as is in a shaker. We will give it a shake before using. I know it is not part of LC but we will use it in our morning porridge. We were using powdered rice or soya milk but I am it fond of these powders as I am not sure how they are made or what exactly is in them. On the nut side I met the brother of a friend who distributes bulk nuts and seeds. He runs his business out of a place in Eloff street extension. Minimum quantities are a KG for various nuts seeds and dried fruits. He has almonds that are broken or chipped so not top quality as well as top quality. I am keen on bulk almonds of a lower quality for things like almond milk. Could be useful for us in various ways. I will try and get there this week and will post prices and what he has in stock.
  17. Another name is clarified butter. Used a lot in Indian cooking. You can buy it quite easily in KZN and I assume from Indian grocers anywhere else in the country. I usually just make it. Take a brick of normal unsalted butter. Melt in a heavy pot and allow to simmer on a low heat. Some solids cook out and rise to the surface as a creamy scummy sort of foam. Scrape these off and discard. When this stops occurring the process is complete. Usually some solids sink so the best is to filter the warm still liquid ghee to remove the remaining solids. The ghee will set at room temperature. Ghee is better for frying than butter as it is more stable at higher temperatures and doesn't catch as quickly as butter. It also lasts a lot longer at room temperature. It has a lovely light fragrant aroma and a lighter more delicate flavor. Good stuff all round from a culinary point of view. No idea from a health perspective though.
  18. Being in yellow is a bit like winning an F1GP. It is a very big deal. Being in yellow in Paris is like being crowned F1 champion. Not a perfect analogy but it was the best I could come up with today when a client commented that Daryl clearly wasn't good enough. Made me very annoyed actually.
  19. I read somewhere, one of the cyclists tweets I think, that it was in the region of 4000m. I don't like Sky at all. I was pleased to see them in some difficulty but Froome is something else completely. Perhaps it was him playing second fiddle to Wiggins that caused to misjudge him. Anyway it was my mistake. He is an incredible cyclist. Calm, rational, talented, well prepared, intelligent. At the moment he looks like the best Grand Tour rider we have seen in years. It was a facinating day and I don't think we are headed for a boring tour at all. We still have the ongoing Sagan saga to enjoy. Cavendish has still some opportunities. The battle for KOM is going to be interesting. I also don't believe the other teams will roll over and let Sky walk off with it. It's going to be great
  20. You can work on around 65 to 75% but that is really just a guideline. To be more accurate you need to do a test where lactate is measured and your lactate threshold is determined. The other issue is like with the diet your body needs to be trained to burn fat during exercise. This is done by riding at the correct zone and not going above it. This effectively trains your body to use fat at these low intensities only switching to carbs when you go above your lactate threshold. Anyway that is my up understanding of the process at the moment.
  21. You take it all very personally. I wasn't actually commenting on the thread or the title but the habit of every little thing turning into personal attacks and degenerating into a nit picking bitch session. I have no actual opinion on the story since I don't really see enough facts for me to form one. Other than stealing is obviously not cool.
  22. Your reality. Not "reality". Some people see a donut, some people only notice the hole.
  23. The difference is when the same lad asked if he could take a photo with Lance he was told to get lost. When he turned up at the HTC hotel on the tour he ended up chatting to Cavendish while he was on the massage table. Cavendish asked him who else he would like to talk to and when he said Tony Martin Cavendish took him down to the dining hall to meet him. Anyway it's history. Today is a great day.
  24. Oh so this is still the The Hub. After all the positive stuff over Daryl I was starting to wonder. And go...........
