  1. Thanks man! It was the best fork I could afford for the build. Got it at a good price too. Hoping I can get a Rock Shox Pike on there or maybe a Yari, once they become available that is.

I got a reverb stealth but it's 420mm. Any idea if it'll fit in a Medium OneTen? :D

You can try using the chart below to check if the 420mm stealth will fit your medium OneTen

  2. Just watch out for knee gaurds that has velcro in those positions, it can create a chave spot when pedaling (especially when wearing it on the ups too)...I have heard of a few okes complaning about it.

Edit: because the edge of valcro is quite hard...so can feel like a knife cutting

Cool, thanks for the advice. Most reviews suggest they are not a problem but worth keeping in mind. Mostly getting a list of options together and trying to see if these are viable. Seems the Dainese are falling to the bottom of the list now.

  3. Anyone know if Dainese trail skins knee guards are available locally?

  4. I'm going to make up some clamps to accommodate 3 cables on the down tube, or just cable tie it to one of the existing cables there. Will then run the dropper cable off the side, under the BB, and up into the new hole.

OK cool, guess it's the only option really. Should work out. The goal is really to avoid having a cable that is flapping around and allowed to possibly cause significant cable rub on the frame.

  5. Has anyone successfully installed a stealth dropper post into a Oneten 29 that didn't have the hole in the frame for the internal cable routing pre-drilled at the facrtory?

I would like to get a 9point8 Fall Line dropper but it's only available with internal routing and was wondering if anyone has successfully drilled a hole in their frame for their dropper cable

I know the newer 110s come with a hole now so is there any harm in drilling a small hole in the same location then fitting some sort of grommet to seal the cable in the hole?

Having confirmed it is possible to drill the hole in the old frame to accommodate the stealth, the question I have is how are you going to route the cable?

The newer frames have the option to route the stealth cable underneath the down tube with the rear derailleur cable and rear brake hose to then go through the hole in the frame, whilst the older frames only have the routing option for two cables on top of the down tube (AFAIK). So where will the stealth cable be routed on the older frame?

  6. How...?

Canyon ship to SA now, so definitely possible to get one. Ordering requires contacting their support department as SA does not yet appear as a shipping destination on their site. To establish pricing in US dollars use Hong Kong as the destination. Shipping is an extra 400 euros, so that also needs to be factored in. The bike then gets shipped as parts so should not attract duty but VAT will be added (from what I understand). Haven't gone through the process myself, only chatted to the Canyon support guys to find out what the process will be and whether it is even possible...which it is! Good value for money bikes even when all extra costs are included.

Depending on the type of riding you do there is the Spectral, Nerve and Lux to consider

  7. Just a note, we leave from the boom at the rail hotel / bar thinga mobod at the car dealerships 5:15pm sharp.

Join us all the way home or just through the dodgy part....ride is on everyday, come rain or shine.

Ok awesome, thanks for the note Hairy. I join the cycle path at the Woodstock MyCiti stop as I cycle from Observatory to Century City. I normally get to the path around 5.15pm so think I will just wait for a small team before cruising further up the path.

  8. Ah man, that's super bleak! Rode through that section solo just after 5pm yesterday. What to do today?! I know it's a hot spot so I'm always vigilant but that can only do so much. Agree with Upshift, there must be spotters somewhere especially when you consider these "gentlemen" had their backs to you.

Sorry you had to endure such a *** experience stoffie, awful end to the day!

  9. I've looked at getting one of those covers and to be honest the FD mount does not bother me at all. I would however love to see a pic of that green 110 of yours...I really like that colour! Was that a custom job?

Yeah I would agree in that the bare FD mount wasn't a bother, but I saw an opportunity for a bit of tinkering which appealed to me! Makes little difference really but was fun to get the design right (well to me at least) ;).

The colour of my 110 is the standard 2015 paint job. The colour in the pics is likely an artefact of the HDR feature of my phone camera, makes it look more like a matte green! Attached a pic of my bike in its natural surrounds, think the standard colour is more apparent in it.

  10. Hi Hubbers

I recently took on a (fun) personal project of finding an alternative to the commercially available cover plates used to cover up the frame mounting space left when removing the high direct mount front derailleur for a 1x conversion. After searching the interwebs I cottoned onto a 3D printed plate through options and ideas from Shapeways and the MTBR forums.

Shipping for the Shapeways product made it unreasonably expensive for what it is ($6 for the plastic plate, $20 for shipping), so I contacted a few 3D printing companies in Cape Town to see if someone could help me out. And success! I managed to find someone! Following a bit of trial and error with my design I ended up with a plate that I am pretty stoked with!! I have customised it for my Pyga and I think it looks pretty rad! The finish of a 3D print is not the smoothest, but it's hardly noticeable when viewed from a short distance. Best part is it cost a fraction of anything else out there, amped

Thoughts on the outcome are welcome and I'm happy to try help anyone out who would be interested in doing the same for their 1x conversion. By this I mean I can either share my 3D file with you (if you can access a 3D printer) or look at getting plates printed through my own source (limited to black or white) and then take it from there.

I assume the design would be a universal fit, but have only managed to test it out on the Pyga frame so far. Given that it is also a very recent addition to my bike I have no idea of durability of the part and how it will stand up to the elements (it's made from ABS plastic) but will post future updates here. Fingers crossed it will have some longevity!

Overall though I think the project was a success, win!

  11. Who were you?

    And yes, it is!

Saw the Reign parked outside the Conters coffee shop before I went off onto the trails on my OneTen29. It was mid-morning, assume you had returned from the trails already. But yeah, the bike certainly caught my attention!

  12. Not all shops yet so carefull you don't arrive at your LBS and are told haaibo. Wait till saturday.

Do we use the same 2015 annual permit registration form to get a half year permit? Or is there an updated form indicating the price for a half year permit?

  13. Day permits will now also be sold at the new coffee shop at Hazendal, but only from 8 am. If you want to ride earlier, please buy your permits at the Engen garage at Soneike, Kuilsriver. The coffee shop is to your right just before you enter the parking lot. There is also a bike wash in the corner of the parking lot near the barns.

Rode Bottelary from Hazendal this past Sunday. The coffee shop opened at 9am not 8am, not sure if it would open earlier on a Saturday. Rather stop at the Engen if you want to start early. Day permit was R50
