  1. Fixed that for you
  2. As a social rider, totally agree. It's sad also that it's hard to argue that young talent gets all the support it could from the CSA either, and some of that could be said to be down to inefficient and squandered funding as well as lack of funding. But having a disjoint and broken up approach with squabbling over money that ends up in different pots, isn't really benefitting cycling as a whole - or the promising youth who could one day represent SA. I've never understood why there can't be a seamless model - my club membership fees include an amount that goes to a provinicial body, which in turn goes to a national body. In that, I get my fun ride day license included, but if I want a racing license then for sure I have to buy that extra. Also if I don't belong to a club, charge me a temporary day license . But the bickering mess we have now, regardless of which side is right and wrong, is not helping our sport overall
  3. Everyone jumping on the bandwagon should take some time to research both organisations a bit first. When this court case first started I was in the "CSA is all evil, PPA is all good camp too". A number of people on here jumped all over me, and rightly so. I looked into it more, and found out that as with everything no issue is 100% black and white. Both parties to this have both good and bad sides to them. I actually cancelled my PPA membership on the back of what I learned about them through that process. The Argus and some of what they do is awesome, but don't believe for a moment that they are some angel here and the CSA is the devil.
  4. Money leaves the sport and goes to lawyers. Whoever won, I can say for sure it wasn't Cycling or Cyclists

By all means - everyone is welcome when we get to Friday popcorn (and slush puppie) time. I may even order a pizza later on

Ahhh ... my favourite time of year ... the big debate unravelling the Argus seeding mystery. Dan Brown should use it as the plot of his next novel (fetching the popcorn)
  7. Ok - no common factor there then. I guess there's some that are duds that get out onto the market
  8. Just out of interest - where do you buy your GP4000s? Reason I ask is that the ones I bought overseas had a slightly different feel to ones I bought locally (excluding some I got from BuyCycle a long time back which felt like the UK ones). I haven't had any problems yet with the local ones, all sets have been pretty good. I do think tyres it's a lot about luck. But when I put them on I thought "I wonder if these were cheap because someone is making Chinese knock offs". Total conspiracy bull on my part, but they just didn't feel or look quite right. I also know a friend who got them on the same special deal, and one of his blew out on him early on too. Maybe another explanation is that Conti export their seconds to us and not the 1st quality ones Edit: - or just that their quality is dropping! Edit2: looks like I'm not the only one who wondered about a batch: http://www.bikeforums.net/archive/index.php/t-805448.html Guess it's just how some of them look
  9. Multiple events recently. This one was latest I read of: http://www.dieburger.com/nuus/2014-02-13-ng-n-fietsryer-op-r304-by-kayamandi-aangeval

I am no racer - the other guys will help I'm sure. The one thing I can confirm though is you have your own timing chip. Your time will be when your chip that time crosses the start and finish lines. I'd also say there is no advantage in the Argus to being at the back - bunches get clogged and you get stuck. Stay up front, sit in a small group and share the work over the first 2 ramps up to Hospital Bend and Wynberg, and then make sure you find a nice fast and sensible group for the blast down the blue route. Long and fast, need a good slip, and don't want any muppets who can't bunch ride bringing you down. Enjoy - you'll have an awesome time! Edit: I doubt A group have many muppets though. Sorry, no offense intended

If I get tempted to stress over my seeding I just think on my 1st Argus in 2008 - start at 10am in OL, and just barely managed to squeak over the line before 3pm. I was delighted, with almost no experience or training a sub 5 was way more than I expected. Now I get to start around 7am, and barring mishaps should be drinking that first beer well before midday. Really is nothing there to worry about - except someone forgetting the ice and the beer being warm.
  12. Awesome Mads. We'll see you there. Just sent you a facebook message

It took me a while to realise there is no magic oil that some of our fast/faster club guys have which I don't - they just train harder or smarter than me. I can live with that, we each choose as much or as little and that's what determines our times ... EPO aside of course .... hopefully the postal strike will end and mine will come in time

Exactly why my seeding has dropped - and not unfair IMO. I'd be much less happy if I worked hard in races this year and ended lining up next to some guy (basically me) who'd done nothing, and just got seeded off last year's ride

T - no issue either way really, it is what it is, same seeding process applies to all I think. Aiming at enjoying the ride primarily, for me it's just for the fun The time will be whatever the conditions and fitness let me get on the day. Was Q last year - but didn't do anything aside from Die Burger this year, and was still hampered with injury on that one. Looks like that result was used for my seeding. Buddy of mine rode in Q last year and also dropped to T this year, and I think he's done fewer races this year too. So seems to be some consistency to it
  18. Tragic. RIP fellow rider and condolences to the family
  19. The Hub at it's best - kudos TYGA
  20. Presumably a similar case will also be opened against the persion with the airgun. It's then going to come down to who shot first, and whether it can be proved. So if you do shoot back, make sure you don't miss, and then find some witnesses Edit - funnily enough, this is one of the few threads that have tempted me to look a GoPro as a way to make sure I get a license plate. Carry a gun? Not sure, although reading this makes me angry enough to consider it - probably not the right frame of mind to be armed tho!
  21. WTF! This is getting ridiculous. Not content with trying to kill us by bad driving, we're now target practice for shooting too. Serve these idiots right if they take on someone who has a gun and they both get shot dead.
  22. For road use, I like the Lezyne lights - bright and you can pop out the rechargeable battery and stick a new one in. For MTB use I've recently got an Extreme 1400: http://extremelights.co.za/shop/extreme-1400-new-cree-xm-l2-improved/ Seems good so far. The special they had on over Xmas would have put it in your budget, but I see it's back to full price again now
  23. Used to be regular CRC, Wiggle and SJS customer. Needed 3 hubs urgently a week ago, and none had all the combinations I needed so I tried these guys who did: http://www.cyclesportsuk.co.uk/ Was awesome service, arrived in a couple days by UPS - and they even waived the shipping fee. Maybe worth a look see if they have what you need. Definitely on my suppliers list now!

  25. Hey don't joke. I'm going to be off my Sub-4 bike this year and back on my Sub-5 bike. People need to understand it is all about the bike ...
