  1. So what do you think needs to happen for the desire factor to increase again? Open it to ebikes too ?
  2. Nope was FCFS No lottery this year, they must have known that the lottery system just frustrates and only becomes really needed if you have demand that seriously exceeds supply. This year they just staggered the approach
  3. Wondering when the first one will appear on hub classifieds
  4. Well hope for that price he at least have set it up, do a tubeless conversion, some proper tyres
  5. Glad you got there in time, Was there yesterday and saw the four boxes and wondered how long they would last. Lets hope this is not the last of the bikes they will be bringing. But this morning at the STBB I was REALLY tempted to ask the one guy on a Dale (actually a lefty), at which Makro did he pick that one up. But I knew he was going to drop me around the first corner so decided to keep my mouth shut
  6. I think this will become one of my have to do races, it is a real feel good race for a good cause and combined with that 1) Parking was a breeze 2) Welcome tent at the start was a surprise (thanks Standard Bank) 3) The route markers and marshalls was on point (ok did hear one rider that were on the 45km instead of the 30km) 4) The floating bridge felt very safe and a joy to do at the end of the race 5) The entertainment area was also well supported with a range of vendors that could provide something to drink or eat, and shade. Yes the merging of the routes probably caused some frustrations, but heck it is a fun ride also and sometimes you just wait for a while to pass the people in front of you, life will still go on. What I did realise it is all relative, there are always those stronger than you, and those slower. I might be closer to the backmarkers than the front markers, but when you merge with the shorter routes you do feel quiet strong (maybe one of the reasons by the end when it was getting close to the finish I was a bit sad that the race was about to end, felt like I could keep on riding a bit longer) Looking forward to next year's race
  7. Ok.. who jinxed rouxies tyres?
  8. To everyone riding tomorrow, enjoy here is hoping for a safe one
  9. Think you right as the entries close on the 2nd of Dec. Was just about to say that is forward planning
  10. Think they will have to consider allowing registration on the morning even if it is just to hand out the stickers. Assuming they could not get the correct people thereis there were issues with registration
  11. Have confirmed with them, those are the pickup sites, but you can ask a friend or someone to pick up your pack too
  12. So that is how you have also read their communication?
  13. So a Beta of 1.37 for the 66km ride (not sure if they have the same for the race)
  14. Can you pick up the race pack on the day? or do you have to pick it up either at cape Town / Somerset West?
  15. Think this is the best advice if it looks congested I will take the chicken run, and make sure my phone is a waterproof poach
  16. Never did the one at Lourensford, but am sad to see it not happening again this year, especially with the Stell MTB not doing those trails this year. But in the end it was probably a decision between maintaining the investment in the schools league vs a single event.
  17. Did I miss it, or was there there no Spur Classic MTB this year?
  18. The first waterpoint had all those, potatoes, banana loaf, sweets, etc. From there is was less and less (not complaining, as it was stated as such beforehand that the one will be unmanned)
  19. would assume the tires will weep so bad everyone will think you have white tyres, but for that you can get a set on special somewhere
  20. Wondering if the wheels will allow also for tubeless, not that it necessary, but curious. I have to say that bike looks very nice and at the fun rides I would be expecting to see some of them turn up if so, then I think Makro have brought a positive change
  21. What a ride, for the second year I tried the longer route and it was tough again, tried to start out a bit slower to keep some matches for the end, but that bit up the neck really knows how to sap the strength. But enjoyed the descents, where you had to keep your attention dialed to high (had to stop twice for a water bottle that did not want to stay in the designated spot) Weather was topsy turfy, with Sir Lowries Pass feeling like we heading for a storm, only for it to subside, but then again get hit with some welcome wind on the route to help stay cool. Would not want to do that route on a hot day. Overall enjoyed the race and experience and looking forward to next year already
