  1. Could you explain a bit more? I am a bit slow at the end of the year... Although we can evaluate each action on their own (ie the bully was wrong), how are they not still in some way connected (ps, using the word connected not justified), because take out any one of the aspects of the story ie "bully", the parking bay location, and the driver, and the story about the guys getting so upset he breaks another persons arm would not have occurred.
  2. You can just hope, but you never know for sure it won't. It is the risk you accept
  3. Bit of the topic... But that remains your decision how you want to react (ie not stop and drive to populated area), but you do assume the risk that they might overreact and shoot your car full of bullets. - we all hope that this would not happen and that the policy officers will understand the situation and not get irritated. There was a story recently of a woman that said she did fall victim to a scam roadblock, and the next week when they wanted to pull her over she drove to the nearest petrol station, where they manhandle her into their van. Given the probabilities I would suggest to my wife that if she is on the road alone, and being directed to pull over, that she puts on her hazards, and drive slowly to the nearest public spot edit: ok maybe my fixup should have been a girl tailgating out of the shopping mall parking garage.
  4. Good example... No the attacker do not have the right to break his arm as that would be assault.. But then again if they did not park in the parking bay they would not have had to deal with an irrational bully - not victim blaming, just the risk they accepted. The two things are separate and yet connected
  5. Did a quick comparison side by side... and majority of the route is the same, with some small differences here and there. Still planning to do the race ;-)
  6. I was wondering myself how to respond, as I that his / her post is going to cause a lot of "backlash"
  7. and for the riders with deep section wheels
  8. Thank you PPA for the amazing event (ok heard there was some issues with the timing), but other than that thanks for your part. I have not seen the final numbers but it felt like there were a bit more people. The wind..eish, felt really for those riders doing the long route. My one big concern, and not sure how the others feel about it, is the riding behaviour I saw on the long route (A-B group), when they came past us, the back half of the group was not just crossing the middle line, they were clean across it (the whole back part of the group). Spoke to the marshall afterwards, they tried talking, pleading, but the guys supposedly did not care about those behind them and each just rode their own race. So not sure what they will be doing about it, but seems that at one stage a truck had to stop because all the riders were on his side of the road. Probably a bit of rock and hard place DQ the riders and they might pull a nasty and just not show up in future, or do the right thing and send them a message.
  9. And at a very good price point for PPA members (R100 cheaper than for non-ppa)
  10. Renamed / Rebranded https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/184168-event-the-mtb-challenge/?do=findComment&comment=3587673
  11. Looks like a proper challenge of a race
  12. A special for those interested https://www.onedayonly.co.za/5-stage-cycle-tour-ticket.html
  13. And to your point much easier to have a bus full of runners coming down to run, than bus with bikes at the back
  14. good point ;-) And you do get value for money from a time on the road perspective
  15. So seeing as the Comrades entries opened up yesterday, I had a look at the entry price to participate, as well as how quick they got to the number of entries (by this morning they were already over 20k). So for a new entry (which include the chip), you looking at R800, and that is for a local, with the internationals needing to pay R3800+ Now I understand it is different (running vs riding), which impacts on the waterpoints, medical, organisation, two cities, etc. But still found it interesting that for the participants they still willing to pay that and make their way to Durban (where I suspect without facts that there is a larger % of out of towners coming to do the race than the CTCT) Then again, the run will probably not be as affected by weather and protests as the cycle race is expose to, so you probably more assured that it will happen.
  16. Ebike up the mountain..
  17. How was the route today? Seems to have been less rain that on friday at least
  18. To all riding, enjoy the experience... especially the first timers
  19. All the best will all that is starting the next slog in the rain...Hope you packed in extra set of brakepads
  20. Will need to come back next year for the route switch
  21. Seems the weather is looking a bit better today, with most of the next rain only being predicted for later tomorrow afternoon (extra motivation to finish earlier). Wonder how much mud will still be around the course today
  22. Also waiting to hear, flip think it was VERY tough out there and what is the cut off time (if they don't shorten it further)
  23. Will or would want too? And is there enough time to organise and get buy in from all the relevant landowners? I am holding thumbs that it will be happening, but at the moment I am not holding my breath.
  24. that is a shame, if true, the few impacting the many
