  1. Why not just check the UCT graduation list? Then you will also know what the actual correct spelling is of his name
  2. Think it is a local themed cruise, and after they have boarded I don't think they allow you to disembark again. And can just imagine it is not that much fun on the pool deck
  3. Well I see there is a cruise ship in the harbour, imagine having paid for a cruise and then being stuck in the harbour for 3 - 4 days
  4. Same here in Durbanville, it is not that hectic, we went to do a myrun this morning in Paarl, and was commenting on the lack of wind, till we reached the Engen garage on the N1, from there it was pumping with strong gusts.
  5. Based on the info it was the right decision. Is it still pumping there? In durbanville it is a perfect morning with no wind Edit: now in paarl and the wind is pumping
  6. Just shows again, how quickly the weather can change in cape town..oh well will line up at the start and just keep pedaling just keep pedaling
  7. Was it not at the Stell Cycle two years ago that there were also a spit and a spot of rain?
  8. It is what it is now, I am waiting to see what happen on wed (I assume when we get to perform the first play) and then again next week, to see what is going to happen. Currently I have not moved over to the new Disc Bank. We have had some benefits from vitality before so continued using it this year, the weekly rewards is a bonus.
  9. If the forecast (including the gust prediction is correct), it might mean that motor vehicles from the front will have to pass the cyclist on opposite side of the R44 road for that section from windmeul into klapmuts.
  10. Are they setting up a second hand shop with all the bike purchases?
  11. This thread has really got some proper development going, it has evolved in so many different aspects (including labor law). Any update on Nic as yet?
  12. Actually felt to me there was even a 4th group.. 1st aspect = excessive force used, unacceptable2nd aspect = not a serious issue, as there are other more serious matters that officials should be focusing on than permits (alternatively, due to the seriousness of the 1st aspect, 2nd aspect does not need to be considered as it clouds the 1st matter)
  13. Parking bay comes from the discussion on the following scenario, but this thread has moved on... Quagga, on 30 Dec 2019 - 06:52 AM, said: So explain me this. You see someone parked in mom&tots bay without a kid in sight and you need to use it.You tell the person they are parked illegally and he tells you F-off! Do you now have the right to breaking his arm????
  14. Could you explain a bit more? I am a bit slow at the end of the year... Although we can evaluate each action on their own (ie the bully was wrong), how are they not still in some way connected (ps, using the word connected not justified), because take out any one of the aspects of the story ie "bully", the parking bay location, and the driver, and the story about the guys getting so upset he breaks another persons arm would not have occurred.
  15. You can just hope, but you never know for sure it won't. It is the risk you accept
  16. Bit of the topic... But that remains your decision how you want to react (ie not stop and drive to populated area), but you do assume the risk that they might overreact and shoot your car full of bullets. - we all hope that this would not happen and that the policy officers will understand the situation and not get irritated. There was a story recently of a woman that said she did fall victim to a scam roadblock, and the next week when they wanted to pull her over she drove to the nearest petrol station, where they manhandle her into their van. Given the probabilities I would suggest to my wife that if she is on the road alone, and being directed to pull over, that she puts on her hazards, and drive slowly to the nearest public spot edit: ok maybe my fixup should have been a girl tailgating out of the shopping mall parking garage.
  17. Good example... No the attacker do not have the right to break his arm as that would be assault.. But then again if they did not park in the parking bay they would not have had to deal with an irrational bully - not victim blaming, just the risk they accepted. The two things are separate and yet connected
  18. Did a quick comparison side by side... and majority of the route is the same, with some small differences here and there. Still planning to do the race ;-)
  19. I was wondering myself how to respond, as I that his / her post is going to cause a lot of "backlash"
  20. Jip, that is the point / opinion I am stating. It is your choice in how much risk you willing to assume in the enjoyment of life. (high risk vs high reward). If you want to participate in high risk events make sure your affairs are in order in the case of the a life changing incident. That is why I think it is good for these type of reporting as it makes us all reflect on if it happened to us would there be something we would change.
  21. That is where I see the difference... - Did their action (by riding more to the right) contribute to the bus driver not adhering to the rules of safe passing - in this case no - Did their action (by riding more to the right) impact on the likelihood of being hit - in this case yes So no they not being blamed for the bus drivers breaking of the rules, but did their actions place them in harms way, yes. This is what most of the conversation is about for me for us all to reflect on what the risk factors are out there and maybe have a relook our own tolerance for taking that that risk. Some will decide they willing to take the risk, and some will decide to change their routine.
  22. My view is that they not victim blaming, the same that you do not blame a soldier for getting injured in a war, it is par of the course, the more risks you accept the more likely you are to carry some consequences. I see victim blaming (and a quick google search), as when you perceive that victims are in any way responsible for the actions of offenders... in this case I did not read anything (ok might have skipped some posts) that there is a suggestion that the riders are responsible for the bus drivers poor driving.
  23. and for the riders with deep section wheels
