  2. Check my new avatar!
  3. Broke my collar bone on 31st December, had it plated on the 8th of Jan. Been riding for 2 weeks now, swimming for 3, light weight and theraband work for 3 weeks. Last night was my first night of some more "advanced" weights and exercises at gym, did some DB press, kettle bell shoulder press, cable flies etc, felt awesome! What I keep telling myself is that yes it may be slow, but you are the only one that can get yourself fully functional again. You have to work hard and keep your chin up. I was progressing nicely at gym before the accident, and have had to swallow my ego in the weight den Shoulder pressing 6kg DB's has been a real let down, but I know it's worth it. Going to swing a leg over my DH rig this weekend

  6. Trust me, if the GF wasn't the one holding the bike up, it would have been rubber to couch!
  7. This build all started with me making this post in the injury thread, mentioning that I wanted to build up a single speed XC bike to train on before I got back to riding DH. Later that day I picked up the frame, seatpost, bars and stem from Hog_ Over the last 4 weeks I've slowly been getting all the parts together from various hubbers and the LBS. The build is: Frame: Mongoose Meteore Comp - medium Fork: Fox F100 RL Wheels: Sun Ringle SOS wheelset - running ghetto tubeless Tyres: Kenda Karma UST front, Maxxis Crossmark rear Crankset: Shimano XT Brakes: Shimano Deore Finished building it up this morning at Mike's Bikes, weighs in at 11,5kg, not too bad for a thrown together "brakkie" http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v284/Seanisking/Random/DSCN0324Medium.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v284/Seanisking/Random/DSCN0326Medium.jpg
  8. What about the Crosstrails for R3600 from CWC? These look quite tempting... http://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/mavic-crosstrail-ust-disc-wheelset-2009
  9. I'd say not only the quality of the components, but also making sure you have the right components. On my DH bike my chain used to jump and slip endlessly during runs, I was running an XT rear mech. After changing to Saint, not a days trouble, the harder spring reduces the chain slap and increases the tension in the chain. Better components definately make YOUR ride better, but don't necessarily make YOU ride better...
  10. Dont unmount it fully, get 2 tyre levers under the bead, 1 open spoke between them, and clip the levers to the spokes on either side of that open spoke in the middle. Jam a thin funnel into the gap you just created, and pour your juice in ;-)
  11. Did you add sealant through the valve or did you unmount the tyre? I add mine by unmounting the tyre a little, across 3 spokes. Then insert a funnel and pour 2 scoops of Stan's in.Eedubz2010-02-09 04:33:24
  12. The main thing that's swaying me towards Shimano for my single speed project is the fact that I want to use my cycling shoes for spinning as well, and can't see myself swapping cleats between riding and gyming
  13. Use Motul or Belray, just get the weight that your fork needs.
  14. Find a new LBS. I got short bolts from Mike's BikesEedubz2010-02-01 05:01:33
  15. Both wheels still rock hard. Front wheel still at exactly 3 bar, rear wheel a little lower but I think we might not have taken it to exactly 3 bar yesterday, so I dont think it's from leakage. Forgot to mention that I used 3 rotations of insulation tape to seal the nipples. It was awesome watching the bubbles slowly stop appearing as we shook the wheel and worked the sealant into all the leaks. Eedubz2010-01-31 02:54:29
  16. R65 each, bit steep! I took 4 so they gave them to me at R55 each. Kenda 20" x 1 1/8". I cut mine right down resembling a Stan's strip, so no rubber overhanging the rim edge. Took my Dad and I 20 minutes to do the one, and about 15000 hours to do the other Eventually we sawed an old Schrader valve up, leaving us with just the threaded end piece. Screwed that on to the Presta valve and used the compressor at the Engen, took us 5 minutes if that. From now on it's off to the petrol garage everytime! This was using second hand UST tyres, Crossmark rear, Kenda Karma front, on brand new Sun Ringle SOS wheels I'll let you know tomorrow if they are still up. No more soap bubbles so I'm holding thumbs.
  17. Cajees Fourways... That is all
  18. I use Motul oil in my Boxxer, takes about 30 minutes to do an oil change and fit fresh seals. A full strip down and service doesn't take more than an hour either
  19. Yeah that's what I thought too. I'm assuming the top assembly is similar to the bottom one but just a slightly different size. The top of the headtube looks exactly like the bottom, just slightly smaller diameter (hence the bottom bearing not fitting in the top properly), but with the same angled lips etc. I'll post a pic later tonight when I get home. I've done some googling and the specs for the 2007 Meteore Comp all say FSA IS-2 headset, which I think is meant to look something like this: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=35223
  20. But the bearing doesn't sit snugly in the headtube, and when the top tall spacer goes on top, it doesn't even touch the bearing assembly, it sits directly on the headtube The bottom bearing assembly is all housed in a cup assembly, and fits snugly, the top bearing assembly is basically just a bearing cage, and a ring that fits into the cage. Bottom bearing on left, the 3 remaining parts (4 including the spare) are meant to be the top bearing assembly... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v284/Seanisking/Random/DSC01137.jpg I bought the frame and these are all the parts that I got given. 21. Bump. Anyone?Eedubz2010-01-28 06:22:54
  22. I have a 2007 Mongoose Meteore Comp frame that I'm busy building up. I have the original headset, but I'm not sure if I'm missing some parts. Does the top bearing use the frame as it's bearing "cup"? The lower bearing has the fork race, the bearing itself, and then the cup which fits up into the frame. For the top assembly I only have the centring sleeve (the ring with the slit in it), the bearing, and a green plastic seal. Am I missing the cup part that rests in the frame, or does the bearing simply drop into the frame and sit on the angled chafer in the frame?
  23. Try Spanish Farm in Somerset West, really enjoyed riding there, untill I broke my collarbone...
  24. Yeah I've been thinking about that. Would be pretty funny doing seated shoulder press with a 23 in the one hand and a 6/8 in the other Building up a single speed XC bike for some rehad training before I jump back on the DH rig. Anyone with any of the folloing for cheap/free let me know: medium frame cranks and BB 80mm-100mm fork
