  9. I gave it a Tri.... and made it 6:29, so beat the younger version of myself 16 years ago by about 4 minutes. Very satisfied. We had the best coolish temperature/little bit of rain that one could have wished for. (Still very very hot for a Saffa) Super happy with swim. Very warm water. Visibility not clear though. The rolling start over a timing mat works great to keep everyone calm. Somewhat slower on the bike than what I expected. Road surface is very heavy/high rolling resistance. First 25km is none stop rollercoaster with bends. Struggled to get rhythm. Would help to recce the route next time. Beautiful coast, forest and rice paddies along the way. Run route is absolute flat. I was empty between km 9-11 and had to walk... and then remembered I need to take Gu.... so stupid mistake and just show you how brain function also stop when tired. After that much better. I need to work on the run, but happy that I did what I could in 2.5 months and a Couch 2 10k program - that never reached 8km. Determine to work on that. To repeat this from zero again when I'm older will be even more difficult. Planning the next one... Highly recommended. ps Should anyone come this way next year and need time to get use to the heat - welcome to spend time in KL with us.
  10. The only ebike related arrangement I would like to see is an increased trail permit fee for them. My argument is that if they can do more km's/up-down laps per time unit or per day, then they do more trail damage and need to contribute more to the maintenance of that. I don't see why I should subsidize their fun. Other than that, "toggle that switch" and enjoy the spin....
  11. Anyway they want... EXCEPT riding circles around the slower one while whistling
  12. Hate the tapering phase
  13. Home grown coffee at the top of a cool green mountain and ice cold beer back at the bottom in the hot concrete jungle
  14. So we got our bib numbers yesterday - not that it is needed for anything practical yet... (Except building pressure/anticipation )
  15. The Emil Zátopek connection is correct, but it got proxied via Deon Meyer's character Zatopek ("a damaged man") who's dad in the book Orion was a fan of Emil
  16. I had the same issue. I had to find a balance where I have enouth oxygen to allow my brain to focus on technique (instead of drowning), but still get a bit of distance in a training session. I did it by keep swimming lengths when out of air, but initially every 3de length is breast stroke. The next week every 4th, then 5th etc. Etc It just gave me the opportunity to calm down a bit so that I can focus better. One thing that made a massive (20 seconds/100m) difference was watching the effortless swimming YouTube channel's 'Friday feedback' videos.
  17. Awesome discussion that - I spotted again today. I had to click.... because I literally give it a Tri 17 Nov in the 70.3 Langkawi. Only previous experience was one event ~16? years ago when the first half IM was held in PE (1st of the return of IM to SA) The swim and bike is ok, but I currently literally learn to run again after all this years... not that was ever a natural activity for a rugby prop:) Will slowly read trough the thread and absorb the wisdom , thanks! Any on here come to Langkawi?
  18. It does not look like much, but since it is the nearest beach (pantai) to home I will take it... It is also the coast of the mighty Straights of Malacca, over which many trade wars were fought over the centuries.
  19. I think the sensors gets blown away by the frustration of all the drivers at that £$"$£"% slow traffic light, waiting to exit the shopping area
  20. I think http://www.weardirect.co.za/ is timing out ? I usually would preferred the flag smaller, but like this
  21. Did my first MTB event this past weekend in more than a year - and was surprised to notice how many top end ebikes there were. What I noticed/learned: Don't follow the pace of a pack of e bikes on flat/flowing single track - they are not tired when the hills arrive. They are handy to have 1-2 minutes in front of you in a MTB HASH - they can get lost on the paper crumbs trail and inform you on the way back.Once or twice it is scary how fast/silent they can pass you on an uphill. Accidents will happen.
  22. To the Palm oil trees for a MTB hash. No other agricultural commodity can compete with it ito profit here... ... the amount of soil preparation works must cost a bucket. Riding in it's shade is nice though.
  23. Bali for a 10 day training camp / hill training
  24. In my thoughts Eddy.
  25. Around Penang island for the 10th CFAL - Cycle For A (cycle) Lane. Areal mixture of Argus/Island vibe to it.
