  1. Sounds like its going to be a blast! Counting the sleeps already.
  2. Ok, entered and ready to party.... me and my brother-in-law driving up from KZN for the weekend. Can't wait! Can anybody give more detail about the camping facilities? Are there ablutions etc, or are we taking a dip in the local stream when we done riding? And where are the festivities likely to take place on Friday and Saturday? Will this be "on location" or somewhere else?

I'll be riding 26" With 1.5" slicks. I'm still undecided on the gearing. I ride 32:16 normally for MTB events with 2.1" knobblies on, and with this gearing I spin out at about 24 km/h on the flats. Putting on the 1.5" tires is going to make this even worse. I have available 32, 38 and 44 tooth chain rings and 16 and 18 tooth sprockets. At the moment I am leaning towards running 38:16 on Sunday to compensate for the smaller tires and hopefully give me a bit more speed on the flats, without killing me on the climbs. The downhills will probably be freewheeling anyway, so I don't think this will come into the equation at all. I will be interested to hear other peoples opinion on this. I've only been riding the SS for a few months, and never before on the road, so I don't really know what to expect.

Yes, I'm doing it on my MTB SS, starting in MTB2 Batch
  5. I had the same problem with my Hayes Stroker Carbons a few years ago. After consulting with the guys at the LBS it turned out that this was a known problem with a batch of these brakes and that a rebuild kit was available to fix the problem. I don't recall exactly what the root cause of the problem was, but it was something along the line of the wrong grease being used during assembly at the factory or a defective O-Ring or something like that. In the end though, it was going to take a week or 2 to get the rebuild kit and I wanted to ride that weekend, so I did a deal with the LBS and traded in the Hayes on another set second had brakes, so I don't know what the final outcome of the rebuild was. A Google search for "hayes stroker sticking" will turn up numerous hits for this problem.
  6. If this is what you are looking for:Farnell - ML2032 Try contacting Electrocomp Express, they bring in twice weekly shipments from Farnell.
  7. Same experience here. Order my Edge 500 Bundle from BikeInn lunchtime on Tuesday, DHL delivered it to me on Friday afternoon. Cost was R2053 for the unit and shipping and R360 to DHL for VAT and clearing.
  8. I have a CS200 and trying to use the mic built into my Webcam has never worked. I have managed to get it to work using the mic on my skype headset. However I have found the distance at which I hold the polar away from the mic is critical. I also find it works much more reliably on my desktop than on my laptop using the same mic, so it seems that it is not only the mic itself that affects performance, but also the computer you are using. When you start the transfer, do you get any indication on the signal strength bar on screen that the mic is picking up anything? Does the microphone work properly with a program like skype?
  9. Try: Crest Chemicals at 031 902 5324 Protea Chemicals at 031 468 5424 Ask for UNIDRI 20, the previously discussed DRIDEX 9 appears to have been replaced by UNIDRI 20 But be warned, it comes in 25kg bags. If you want a sample to try before you commit send me a PM and we can arrange something.
  10. I just used silicone to seal it back together. Probably wont give as strong a bond as the Loctite stuff, but I found it to be fine. At least it will be easier to open again if you need to. Try and get a silicone without Acetic Acid in it, like Den Braven Neutrsil 1001U or Silicon-NO. (Acetic Acid and electronics don't mix well, but as long as you are careful not to get the silicon on the PCB even the normal stuff will be fine)
  11. Can anybody confirm if you need a passport to do this race, I assume you don't go through the Lesotho boarder post at the top on the 42km event, and therefor a passport is not required, but what about the SA boarder post at the bottom, or do they just turn a blind eye to people on mountain bikes for the day? Reason I am asking, is that my passport was lont in a burglary we had a while back and I have not had a chance to get it replaced yet.
  12. Whatever's going the night before, but i try and make sure it's got lots of carbs. I normally have raw oats and milk 2 to 3 hours before the race, and then 2 peanut butter and strawberry jam sandwiches about 30 minutes before the start.
  13. Nope, I have also not received a parcel sent in May, looks like some-one at the Post Office is getting into building bike lights.
  14. Actually I think Thys was correct, bear in mind that LED drivers are constant current drivers, so in a parallel arrangement, if one LED blows and stops drawing current, the driver will detect the current drop and then increase the drive voltage to the LED's to bring the current back to the original value, causing the remaining LED's to share the extra current not being drawn by the blown LED. In your street light example you are correct, but in this case, the lights are being driven by a constant 220V supply that will not change no matter how many lights are connected. In the rear flashing light is also effectively a constant voltage arrangement, where each LED has it's own current limiting resistor and is driven directly from the battery voltage.
  15. Asked my LBS this question last week. Relpy I got was that Fox will need an oil change and clean about every 6 months, but provided this is done, the dust wipers should last a fair length of time. Rock Shox needs less frequent service, but will most likely need new seals/wipers at every service. So in the log run, although needing more frequent attention, the Fox works out cheaper. How true this will turn out to be I have no idea, but I now have a Fox fork on the bike.
