  1. Very very sad; brings Elmer Symons and quite a few other really good guys to mind.
  2. Sabotage I tell you
  3. We were chatting about him (and the family ups and downs) on the 01/01/2020. Like many I can remember exactly where I was when I heard the terrible news. Gone but not forgotten.
  4. Sorry it is an old one I know; AC and DC we know; ANC - Absolutely No Current.
  5. sorry; "fuel" not "duel"; should not operate heavy machinery just yet.
  6. LWB; with the A350's operating commercially (at last), any idea how much more duel efficient they are?

I seem to remember Wayne Gardner and Kork Ballington trying 4 wheel racing. They both wrote off cars in spectacular fashion.
  8. Hey wena, why you on the hub? You should be shoveling coal or ash or water; something. Hope you aren't involved in clueless Cyril's "sabotage" squeals of distraction . Slightly more seriously, I do not know how you cope. I was on site at one of the smaller stations for a small job and it was a farce. Safety, security and environmental took up all the meeting time; technical (my field) was clueless (no plans, no old reports, no numbers, find out everything yourself) and he was rushed so the herd could get to lunch. It was approaching 11h45 and they had another meeting at 13h00. None looked underfed.
  9. Not sure if the tyres "explode" when over heated (by the brakes) or if there are fuse plugs that blow at a high temperature. Someone will put me right.

I read somewhere that the best lap times in Moto2 are quicker than the old and mad 500 2 strokes. Quick.
  11. Interesting about the 50cc bikes. Back in the day when I was up for a 50 (I never got one), Zundapps and Kriedlers were supposedly the horsepower kings (or is it pony power).
  12. Ah 2 stroke nostalgia. I indulged in many years of Castrol R in various Husqvarna's - I tried the KTM 495, Yam 490 and Maico 490 (regret never riding a Honda or Kaw 2 stroke 500) but, for enduro's always came back to the Husky's. I did advance from Castrol R at 25:1 (burn out the exhaust every 6 months or so) to Bel Ray at 50:1 with never a problem, even in Lesotho. Even now I look at indulging in a 250 or 300 2 stroke. Regarding the Yamahas I shamelessly try and understand Kevin Cameron's musings on the 250's and follow various blogs of Banshee flavoured Kenny Roberts replicas as well as 500's imported into the US from Japan and re-built. Fascinating; just do not let them seize at 160.
  13. Very dangerous thread this; just do not look at the Garage Journal or cyclingtips (where there is a competition for best toolkit amongst the pro bike mechanics). If you are a woodworker, avoid toolcraft; visit at your peril. Some great kit mentioned and I'm an unashamed (yet) toolaholic. From 35 odd years ago buying a 1/4" drive Stahwille socket set piece by piece to drooling over the Makita cordless catalogue I am hooked. I have a brand new Bosch drill press, virtually unused but at least I've sold its predecessor; not easily I tell you. I've got one or two of many makes and ja, Stahwille screwdrivers are great; not so much the Phillips where Wera or Gedore may edge them (have you seen the Wera socket sets with the coloured sockets - lust I tell you). Not too impressed with the new Gedore spanners - bought a 12/13 flat the other day and noticed the heads weren't polished like the older ones. Poor show . I know where the local Snap On outlet is but daren't go there. I'm not quitting though.
  14. Much debated topic on bike forums - mix of ATF and acetone I think has some fans. Of course the Sawzall has its adherents in the final reckoning.
  15. Ingula reminded me - my partner signed up for a senior technical role in the construction at tender stage and lasted about a week; rotten. He worked on Drakensberg and investigated at least one very promising pumped storage scheme near Durban. His colleagues went on to Steenbras and Lesotho Highlands; finally. Investigation into Lesotho started in the 50's; and 60's the Oxbow scheme.

I thought Marquez was a bit of a nutter with some of his moves but he got the job done: I reckon he could win on just about any of the current MotoGP bikes if they held together and were set up to suit him (disclaimers I know but watching the Simon Crafar podcasts makes me realise how complex bike set up is). Binder is a beast on the tracks that suit him and the KTM. Obviously hope MotoGP goes well for him and I am perpetually disappointed for his brother.
  17. back to topic: "5. The best way to get sealant in a tyre is with a little 60ml Stans bottle through the valve." Very true but do not try and be clever and slip the bottle tapered spout in while there is still some air in the tyre so you can avoid losing the bead. When you remove said spout you get a nice little spray of sealant from aforementioned residual air.
  18. I battle enough with a Dunlop D6060, warmed in the sun and a heavy duty tube. Half day affair (no tyre changer though) and definitely gloves needed. Still impressed with the ISDE boys; 2 new tyres and mousse's, air filter and maybe oil change in 15 minutes at the end of a day's enduro.
  19. There is a similar one for Dirt bikers that I find very funny. Maybe it is because I have inadvertently participated in similar events.
  20. Thanks LWB; ja I also understand they are on lease; maybe not with Airbus themselves and differing terms. Two from Air Maur. and two from Hainan China somewhere?
  21. So when does the ex Air Maur. A350 arrive at SAA?

  23. As Patches said "Aussies love the WR250R." So do the Yanks - big following over there. Nice bike to maybe compete with the Honda 250 Rally?
  24. I've seen the cop bikes as well - can't remember the designation. But I did go on a ride with a dentist (since migrated to Oz) who had a lekker little Yamaha 250 but I think it was a special import of some sort, or ex cop bike. Sad we don't get the WR250R in SA, only the 250F enduro bike.
  25. Yes I have. Currently undergoing some rear linkage replacements; slowly. I have a KTM 525 as well and honestly prefer that for all but the longest trips (not that I've done one for a while; sob). At least I can pick the thing up. Your 450 is the business. Plenty local "adventure" guys have swapped to 500's as they are so much lighter and more fun, better suspended. I see on AdvRider there is a Kiwi who has pretty much been around the world on his KTM 500. Most impressive. Has had an engine rebuild but not from necessity.
