  1. Another one to eat my time - impressive as my Dad built a little Optimist sailing boat with hand tools only in a home with no electricity and while farming. Even at my age then, 13 or so, I was mightily impressed. Mike Patey with his Draco etc aircraft (etc) are at the opposite end of the scale but still impressive and I cannot resist watching. So much self belief and drive!! eg. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYQTl4TPlwU
  2. Now that is a rabbit hole. That guy is so smart, well set up and organised - him and his son dabble in bicycles too - see the DH bike he built and they have a back shock out now which sounds amazing - not on his channel but an MTB one.
  3. Those are nice jackets; well too big for me sadly. Maybe advertise on Wilddogs as well.

I heard or read Dovi to KTM as well. I'm not so sure a move to HRC would be that good for anyone. Honda builds its bikes for MM; no one else. If you cannot adapt to that, or ride like him (no one can at this stage) then you are in a heap of trouble and no one will really care or change just for you. A better move may be to say Yamaha, who, as I read etc, makes bikes that are somewhat "easier" to ride. Let's get racing; with masks on of course.
  5. Well, let's face it, much easier to nail the submissive than a few panga wielders on tik. Maybe closer to KFC as well. Disclaimer. I generalise (Cele that is) of course. I feel sorry for the few good police (like the good that work at SAA, Eskom etc).

So while ploughing along on the indoor trainer I listened to a podcast with one Cal Crutchlow; a very keen cyclist. At the moment he's riding 3 hours a day, 21 hours a week (so he says) and loves it; would not have minded being a pro. Pretty much his only training and ramps this up a bit when he's training hard. 1.7m, 66kg, 7% body fat. Fit lad. Gains around 4kg (muscle he says) over the racing season wrestling the Honda.
  7. It is interesting about Sydney chucking their grounds to landfill. I always threw mine out of the machine onto the lawn and all was well. But then I took a batch that had been left in for quite a time for some reason (on holiday or whatever); it had white mould growing on it, and threw it on some ground cover - killed it stone dead. Any references for the composting etc?
  8. What did this entail Bruce; is it just google or youtube; special knowledge. Mine must be needing it although I do all the cleaning and descaling vitamins.
  9. Good inspiration, between you and Dale; positive stuff. Tiny note, act now, you always (should) have that control (copied from Dale), the future is not guaranteed controllable.
  10. I am (very) envious of ou Wimpie being able to ride that distance and pace. As to stopping, maybe he does crop evaluation, checks road markings, counts stormwater drain grid inlets . Doesn't strava have a place for him to upload his dompas so we can see?
  11. I also did my share of "little" charter flights and was enjoying it; except when you don't offload your bladder before flying, then still tuck into a few beers. Knyp vas. But I was woken up by one flight from Queenstown into the back of a cold front, even the pilot (and one of the passengers who was a PPL) was streaming sweat, going lower and lower to find a gap (no instruments in the plane). A few total whiteout moments and hail (well it sounded like it!) had us all a twitter. Much kissing of the ground when we reached Pmb.
  12. Sounds like old man Bristol and his Kawa's, plus the Pinetown guy with the ex Kenny Roberts 2 strokes. Amazing.
  13. I guess the Kurds can look forward to some incoming ordinance; courtesy of SA
  14. I do like the Hypermotard. But to ride it like Herr Xaus; eish!
  15. I suppose us "privileged" who want to do a bit of walking or cycling for whatever reason should be very grateful to our ANC masters for giving us this little gap; dankie my baas. I suspect the ANC regime sees only 3 modes of ground transport as acceptable. 1. Cars; for "us". From limo's and police escorts to vehicles paid for by the taxpayer but used by the ANC oaficial for whatever he likes. 2. Taxi's. To transport the voters and earn "us" some income. Not to be interfered with. 3. Foot. For those without taxi fare. Those walking but with taxi fare should be harassed until they take a taxi. Bicycles are for the "privileged" and should be phased out / discouraged.
  16. The issues of licencing have stopped my ideas of having a drone for semi commercial purposes - I wouldn't charge directly for the service but it would be very useful to myself and my clients to have regular and affordable air photographs. So I will watch your comment around licencing closely.
  17. They also had a flight to fetch the Cuban "doctors" and I see old Jamnadas doesn't want to let SAA go without screwing some more cash from the taxpayers. https://city-press.news24.com/Business/saa-gordhan-reaches-compact-with-unions-20200426 Bet it would be different if it was his own corner chemist; like Ramaphosa and his farming layoffs.
  18. But how is that impressive wall of tools behind him!!
  19. Very intense and good wake up call with many of us fiddling with power tools. Watching lots of YouTube etc I saw the one blogger's accident (The Nobby Wodworker or some such?) with a chainsaw blade on a grinder (scary) and was very impressed with SawStop idea - amazing. Be safe in there.
  20. Recently (August 2019) had to kickstart my 525 in Lesotho coming from a jaunt to Thabana Ntlenyana and boy was I glad when it started. I fired up my 640 in the garage a few days ago; contemplated a "grocery" ride but decided better of it. It has had a few electrical issues, burnt out ignition switch and frayed wiring near the headlights.Bikes (and bodies) getting old.
  21. Ja/nee, I miss bikes out of nostalgia; my old Husky 360, 400 and 430 WR's, good times on those bangers. The XR 600 and TT 600 not so much. Spent time at Katse Dam and Kosi Bay Lodge kicking those things; not missed at all. E start all the way. As I recall Neil Woolridge had a year or so of sponsorship on the XR 500's after the XR 200 but they let him down quite regularly. Shifted to Kawasaki and won the Roof on a KX 500.
  22. They won't be tearing up the skies in C130's any time soon. Collapsed front under carriage on one just out of maintenance, another written off recently in Goma.
  23. Springsteen; the real Boss; Born to Run. Cannot believe it was 40 years ago!
  24. Nice article. There is also an article somewhere about Blackbird flights over SA back in the day. On Avcom also a storey about the navigator who was partly ejected form his A 6 (I think) but which was still landed safely on a carrier nogal; parachute wrapped around the tail. Your lucky day!
