  1. ! you made me as red as a beetroot Thanks Wannabe
  2. in that wind I would have taken off like a blimp with a pair of baggies on. Seriously, haven't found anything vaguely comfortable for more than 2 hours in the saddle - always catch across the top of my quads.
  3. shouldn't be - they avoided cheeky corners and most of the blue descent is pretty robust. Trail z was also already a bit washed out so probably not much worse for the event.
  4. don't know if you would have had many smiley faces on the 65 km (71km) mtb race - it was a suffer fest with 2030m climbing. Wind blew us all over the place and trying to stay on the singletrack on parts of the contermans descent was a challenge. I'm broken ps- what was the deal with the bog of cow poo the route went through?
  5. The two models you mentioned have the horizontal shock set up which has been dropped by many manufacturers. While the vertical shock uses the space a 2nd water bottle cage would occupy, it does end up with longer service intervals which is very appealing for riders doing longer mileage. For those of us not using dropper posts, we use a seatpost mounted bottle cage for longer rides.
  6. Interesting to see a lass so high up on the leader board - pure class!
  7. Sorry to only read this thread now but that is the best book I've ever read too (and I go through about 30-40 a year) Other authors I have enjoyed in non-fiction are: Anatomy of an Epidemic by Robert Whitaker (you'll never look at pharmaceuticals the same way again)The Elephant Whisperer and Babylon's Ark by Lawrence Anthony (what an interesting character with even more interesting stories)Ascent and Dissent by Ken Vernon (and if you really like to put it into context, you can read the other side of the south africans' role on the ill fated everest expedition of '96 in the book "Free to Decide" by Ian Woodall and Cathy O'Dowd)Speak Swahili Dammit! by James Penhaligon (I think he may have embellished the stories a bit but I haven't laughed as much in years).Fiction authors (mostly suspense) Michael RobothamIan RankinVal McDermidMichael ConnellyKen FolletDeon Meyer
  8. Bernette has some serious talent and it is great to see her getting the opportunity to compete at an international level. Best of luck Bernette!!
  9. Thanks so much Segment Hunter. The road is used by Telkom techies and a few others who drive like they're trying to beat their own strava KOM's. Good luck to all riding the segment - have fun and be safe!
  10. There's a short spurt through vineyards and thorns are plenty and the rock gardens will probably claim a tyre or two. I'd suggest ensuring your sealant is topped up and don't take your tyre pressure too low ottherwise you may damage a rim.
  11. I spose some of us gals have figurative balls (at least those are a bit more robust than the real things lol!)
  12. I fear it is a bit slower after the refurb - those little kickers really give you a skop when you're doing over 30km/h
  13. I'm dead serious - she's marginally larger than a rat (fluffier too) so it takes a while to get from A to B.
  14. Please help - advice needed wrt small dogs and taking them on a ride. We have a toy poodle and I'd love to take her along on the bike just for a cruise around the neighbourhood. Anybody got suggestions re bike basket or pouch of sorts that would work? (that don't cost an arm and a leg). Anybody tried a kango baby pouch?
  15. I was also pretty trashed after that but the singletrack was amazing!! Definitely need a 30 up front on the 1x11
  16. Oh my - think I may brave the cold in my winter booties and down jacket because this is such an awesome event!!!
  17. Interesting comment - I recently did a test between my hardtail (carbon) and my new dual sus (Trek) which is about 1.5kg heavier than the hardtail. I tested bikes back to back on the same trails and the heavier dually was unexpectedly faster on the uphills as well as technical, flat and downs. Given that I weigh around 57kg, 1.5kg difference is substantial (will post full details of my testing soon)
  18. Will be joining despite entry fee - with the cost of travelling to an event being so high, an event on the doorstep is very inviting. This is also one of the few events which is a fund raiser for a local school and their organising is always excellent.
  19. do you live next to us?? We have an avo tree and get between 100 and 200 avos each year. Not as nice as the fuerte but not complaining.
  20. That was good fun indeed. As usual, awesome event organising and exciting racing.
  21. You're most welcome and thanks for the company (ps, I think you need to put your mtb back on your hub profile, it's much prettier lol!)
  22. WP2 was out of water when I went through and I was already dry. Ended up bailing and making my way back to civilisation with a serious case of dehydration. Not lekker :-(
  23. Fantastic news although I won't be riding this event. It was so disappointing when W2W ditched prize money for the mixed category as it was such a hotly contested group.
