  1. not sure it i should matt or gloss finish it. I really enjoy making these unique coffee tables..i think i am going to start making more of them and selling them...every single one will be different...as built
  2. Need a gps for the bike...gona try trade this coffee table for an edge 25 and the cash difference.
  3. Leka when you have the right tools for the job...now i know how many i have got and where they are.
  4. I had set the bolts but the belt still slips on the roller...this method allows me to apply a lot more pressure without ant slipping...i have fitted 3 rollers and it is working much better. i get my sand paper from magnet suppliers in rolls then cut to size...you have to size it perfect otherwise it becomes hand sandpaper.
  5. Anyone who has used an ardendorff floor sander will know my frustration when feeding wood into the sander...the belt system sucks...it slips so you have to stand and push the wood to keep it going...otherwise you have to release the pressure so that it just touches the wood which means you have to push it through 20 times...well i had enough tonight and decided to try something...fitted 2 rollers on the outside to put pressure on the inside roller which stops it from slipping...problem solved...now i only have to feed it 3 times. Just need to fit rubber rollers instead of hard plastic and replace the 2 springs with slightly stronger ones.
  6. It would be best to run it through a jointer first...but beware as you cut and plane wood it "moves" ...stacking wood is as important as shaping it...temperature and moisture will twist and distort the planks.
  7. Yip the expensive ply (R1200 per sheet) and white oak i collect from a rubbish bin at a factory which makes furniture using a cnc. I enjoy working with ply and adding it to projects.
  8. A mix of scraps collected from various locations ...not sure the name of all the pieces...but what i can tell you... Baltic pine... Really old reclaimed meranti.
  9. Takes some practice but you know you got it right when you see these bubbles of glue[emoji3] Let the fun begin...next coffee table in the works.
  10. A good rub with steel wool and it will look like a glass top [emoji3]
  11. Wife and daughters bikes were getting in way so i built racks for them in the spare room...need to stain them dark like everything else in the room. And no the derailleur doesnt touch the wall.
  12. First coat of sealer on the pub counter[emoji3]
  13. I hope you tried a top water... with that water so flat...just imagine a 5 kg bass hitting a frog on a slow retrieve [emoji476]
  14. Of all the things I have made this has been the most fun( built the first one with my daughter) the upgrade can take 50 + marbles at a time...and boy do the kids love it [emoji3] the marble maize...lots of different length pvc sprag (makes a cool noise when marble rolls in it) You wanna keep kids or grandkids entertained
  15. just a note...you get stanley and stanley with bailey on the front...which I was told by an old woodworking fella are better quality
  16. how much did the healthy gear...fee for team vitality...vitality monthly fee...and gym contract...sign up fee etc etc etc cost you? by the way coffee at the coffee guys taste much better
  17. Had to change the bar stool design because i ran out of old curtain rail. The pics where taken last night while experimenting with the lighting...gona have 3 options...with 3 switches...really bright 4 ft led lights...down lighters and led strip light for bar area and led tube lighting around the gutter for when just sitting outside chilling.
  18. Such a cool feeling when you look at a project coming together and everything you see...you built...right down to covering the chairs...the kiddies bench...the works. but even better...outlay so far R130 for the genuine fake leather on the bar stools...some glue (5 lt bought directly from the supplier) and a tub of screws...the rest is free pallet wood...the bar counter is from a floor stripped out a house in Durban north...sponge for the bar stools from an old single mattress...i had to buy the 4 nut with caps for the coffee to finish it off...even the s/s tubing are off cuts from a job.
  19. Cost me a whole R 20 for my coffee last week...huge saving of R40 + the extra petrol to go to vida [emoji3]
  20. Leka chilled ride to the beach.
  21. I started off with a mdf template which I shaped until I was happy...then I got a metal template laser cut ...to make it perfect and even...then I started mass producing them using a cnc router...I stopped because the quality of plywood available got so bad that it took longer to clean it up and glue than to cut. Now I am back to making them off the metal template.
  22. It is one of the 100 of these...which i made for old people who didnt get presents or didnt have visitors on christmas day(2 years ago)...i went around to old age homes on christmas day with my son and we handed them out. I just couldnt bring myself to do again last year...it was heart breaking watching the responses of the old people...but even worse...i dont believe any of the old still have them...the helpers would have helped themselves. It is an ideal gift for people in hospital because...it is low maintenance and continues to grow after the hospital visit...unlike flowers just die.
  23. a combination of MDF and the plywood upright...the only way to stablize it...otherwise it would just warp out of shape...it weighs half a ton it has taken about 2-3 years to get to this point and it is still not complete...i was going to appoxy the top...it is a massive job to get all the little pieces to fit...it is much easy to just cut all the pieces the same size and glue together...that would just be too easy. i still havent decided if i should cut the top of the legs flush with the table...or leave them sticking up.
  24. This is where the legs came from for table...another hobby making fishing fishing rod stands [emoji3]
