  1. Something else i make with the scraps...the easy part is cutting...gluing and spray painting...the time consuming part is chipping it with a chisel to give it the old rustic look.
  2. will do... the coffee table is made up of the off cuts from my workshop... the top is from the little off cuts from the pots plants... the legs are the piece cut out from my fishing rod stands... the stainless steel is off cuts from a balustrade... the threaded rod which holds it together are off cuts from installing cable trays... the long dark pieces are from west ridge park stadium...the old planks which people sat on for 50 years.
  3. A couple hours later [emoji3] Add a little stain and varnish Even the dogs like [emoji3]
  4. Managed to sweet talk my pallet supplier...so back spending my evening pulling nails[emoji12]
  5. Socks with bicycles [emoji3] Assos cream...finally finished the small containers which came with the assos bibs...thought i would be a cheap skate and use baby bum cream...bad bad idea...when you wash the bib...the cream doesnt wash out...so back to using what i know works. Gona have to warm wash the bibs and use a little elbow grease to get the cream off the chamois[emoji57]
  6. talking about pin numbers...this morning i go to the local spar to get a few things...the lady tells me to swipe my card...which i do...and wait to put the pin number...next thing i see the receipt printing...so i ask what about the pin...i am told for my standard bank personal gold card... a pin is no longer required..."you" have to just swipe the card and the transaction is processed...no pin required...the teller is not allowed to take the card from you anymore....eeeesish best i take better care of my cards.
  7. It has moved to the top of florida rd...if we taking about the same one. Coffee guys in the parking lot just before ushaka in the morning...or the green bean in berea...or columbia coffee. That would be a useful thread..."good coffee spots"
  8. 1 week left of vitality then i get 13 cups of coffee instead of 4 for R260 One day when i can justify the R3120 spend on vitality per year or decide to join the gym... fly in a plane... wear an apple watch... use their credit card... take out life insurance... shop at their recommended outlets... etc etc etc. As somebody indicated to me the other day...it is "only R180" for parking at the polo per year...I ride from the polo pony twice a year... From today forward i will consult my accountant and if he indicates it is money well spent then i will sign up again...but for now the numbers dont add up. things which could make me consider it again... not being tied into a credit card deal... a garmin product deal...which suits my activities...be it cycling...swimming...running or all stable point system which is calculated before i start and increased as my progress is monitored...by an accredited facility like a gym...personal trainer...power training facility etc return on investment and being rewarded at the end would be an added bonus. it isnt working for me so instead of whining about it...i will save a few bob for now.
  9. Mine has gone up to 700 and i havent loaded anything for 2 weeks...
  10. Shongweni The view from above giba
  11. A table i have been building with all the scraps from my workshop One of 4 benches i am busy building for our entertainment area...from pallets A very important machine when working with reclaimed wood...planer thicknesser...the trick is to replace the blades with ones you can resharpen...it must be the most used machine in my workshop
  12. Ideal for cleaning up small bits Older than i am Found these while visiting the winter fair at bainsfield. When i need a straight edge for a machine [emoji12]
  13. Check out your local woodcrafters association...the avg age is around 70...the old guys have just the tools you looking for... Ken tibet would be the man in durban to source old tools...bought an original stanley planer for R400
  14. http://www.sealine.co.za/view_topic.php?id=37508 tried to find it on bassing.co.za but the site is down...here is another not so detailed version of the build. when i stopped by one evening he had all the pieces cut on his lounge floor...the boat was built under an awning. it is one thing building something in a huge workshop with all the tools required...but taking on a project like this in your driveway...eeeish.
  15. an idea...you have some cool looking cars and stuff in boxes...cut a slot in the top shelf...slide a piece of glass right across the front...or it might be easier to make a frame with the glass to fit across the front of the top shelf...will stop people from playing with stuff they shouldnt be after a couple captains...take the stuff out the boxes and fit a strip or 2 of LED light at top...might be an idea to put them at the back of all the shelves...would look wicked at night...just not too many...you dont want the lights being the main feature.
  16. A new pair of gloves...helps for the splinters and keeps the hands clean when working on the bike...if you size them right...they dont even bother you like other gloves
  17. gummi it is easier to cut the wood a little shorter...using a recip saw...it saves hours removing nails...i am busy making some bar stools and benches for my pub in progress with pallet wood...and finishing off a table i started a couple years ago...good excuse for a party soon sand paper works wonders for splinters...wood and metal/ https://www.facebook.com/The-Cranky-Woodworker-470837553039325/
  18. cycle/runners lane...the other day i manged to ride a little in one of the cycle lanes in Durban but only for a short while as the runners coming at me where in a bunch and they wernt moving for anyone...however I did notice on Saturday while riding in a bunch the runners did move to the side
  19. my simple brain would tell me that if i were to encourage people to want to get fit and healthy... i would insist on a fitness test the day you sign up...done at an accredited facility...so i know what your heart rate should be based on that assessment...similar to what is done before you start cadence training blocks...get the data required with the relevant info from the online assessments...then set goals to achieve and monitor the goals. offer a choice of affordable hr monitor packages...with the credit card (they are gona generate tons of revenue and guaranteed pay back which offers a means to attach all your furniture...house...car etc ) I can tell you that a small percentage of people are in a position that they could surrender the credit and hand back the watch...the rest are up to their necks (if not drowning) in debit with the credit card already...as the economy sinks so the debit is rising by the day...people are starting to feel the R23 for a 2 lt milk and R12 for a loaf of brown bread cost of living rise...we wont even go into the rest (petrol price etc)...yet people have money to waste on DSTV something that i believe should also be implemented is an annual grace period...for just in case...you get sick sick or have an accident etc which can be used at any stage during that year.
  20. We have the same problem...it was suggested by the specialist that my daughter has the scan..our whole savings and some gone last month
  21. The water is so clean you can see the fish swimming around the pier Westbrook
  22. Unfortunately it is just the cobble section on the beachfront ...if i close eyes i can picture the crowds as i bounce along the road [emoji12]
  23. Took ol miss daisy for a spin along the promenade this afternoon [emoji3] Home time
  24. I dont know...how ever from the little time i have spent on the cadence bike with a power meter and all the fancy bits...those numbers look good to me...or should i say a lot better than mine...riding at 37 - 40 km is not longer an issue for me at 170 watts...however to ride an avg speed of 37 with an avg power of 249 watts for 40 minutes...makes it a little more difficult...chances are this fella wasnt going full steam...he might have just been doing a warm up session ...i see him in the top 3 in his age group on more than one occasion. when i first started cadence the number between 120 watt and 380 watts didnt seem that significant...then we started interval training.
