  1. That would be airports company. No air crew involved here anymore. So whoever pushed back the aircraft with the tractor did so when the bridge was not moved away.
  2. Who of you are aware of this fight between Qatar Airways and Airbus? I must say if a customer pisses a supplier off to such an extend that the supplier cancels the order of 50 Airbus A320Neo aircraft they you really must have ticked them off.
  3. Me thinks AVIS car rental in Upington made a killing after that. Everybody decided to drive home.
  4. What I fail to see in the original pic is where the blade penetrated from the outside
  5. Wasn't there an incident in the US not too long ago that a 737 had a catastrophic engine failure and debris penitrated the fuselage killing a person on board? Then there is the famous Quantas A380 flight where nobody was injured but the amount of damage done to the aircraft was significant.
  6. Kathu then it was sure to be a charter flight. There used to be a regular service with a Jetstream 41 of SA Airlink flying Jhb Upington and then on to Cape Town and returning the same way. Flew the Jhb Upington flights a few years ago. The return flight is also one of my more memorable flights I have experienced. Short after take off from Upington, right about as we flew over the Sishen mine we flew into a thunderstorm of note. Was a rather shaky flight all the way to Johannesburg. Still had one of my new black co-workers with me. It was his first plane trip. He was as white as a sheet for most of the flight.
  7. I do. Was it not a Kulula add?
  8. I very much like Munich Airport. It is a fairly newish airport and although it is the 7th busiest airport in Europe, I never get the feel that it is so busy when I am there. I recently now flew to SA. Down to SA on Air France via Paris. And back with KLM via Amsterdam. I quite like the Charls de Gualle Airport. As I said earlier the flight to SA was in a B777 which I found to be fairly noisy but overall good service from Air France. Back on KLM was also on the 777 but did not find it to be that noisy. Think we sat futher back and that might have made the difference. It was also nice that there were 200 seats open on the KLM flight so each passanger could pick his own row of seats in economy. First time ever I could sleep over 4 seats. The Dutch crew was excellent and propably the friendliest crew I have ever flown with. I found Schipol to be a nice airport as well and the staff there to be also very friendly. Even the passport control folks smiled. You will never see that at Munich or Frankfurt. Those oaks never smile. Part of there job description me thinks. Want to take the family to SA in August. Already looking at prices and Lufthansa have some good deals at the moment. Still really want to fly the 747-8. Then we will fly via Frankfurt again. We flew via Frankfurt when we moved to Germany. Flew with the A380 still which still wins hands down as the most quite flight I ever experienced and the softest landing (and yes they set the aircon cold as well). Think it is a Lufthansa thing.
  9. Did not know the name but someone did send me this link the other day ... Was he flying the Black Widow when it got hit by ligthing at the 95 Waterkloof airshow?
  10. Flew for the first time in over 4 years on the weekend. Flew Air France from Munich to Paris and then from Paris to Joburg. Was the last Air France flight for a couple of days as flights got cancelled. Suppose it was my lucky day. The first time I flew on the 777. Personally I thought it was a noisier aircraft that the airbus. Other than that it was a good flight. Now to see if I can fly back to Europe on the 11th with KLM.
  11. I see Alitalia also went belly up. Last flight was last night or the night before.
  12. Well it seems that I might start commuting soon again. After working as a contractor from home for over two years, I will start a permanent position again in October ... in Austria, about 90 km from here. I will still work majority of the time homeoffice but the first couple of months I will be working in the office to get to learn the ropes but thereafter I will only go in the office once every week or two. The most likely scenario will be that I will commute there by train on a Monday and take my mtb with. The offices are in the town of Kufstein. So i will commute in Kufstein between accomodation and office with the MTB for the week and then return home on a Friday. I do see the possibility in the summer when I only go in for a day to take my road bike with me and then commute the 90 km through the Alps back home in the afternoon.
  13. What is left of the aviation industry at the moment? Comair is battling from what I understand but they are servicing their aircraft with Lufthansa. SAA is pretty much a chicken and I do not see them flying soon even in limited capacity. Mango now going into business rescue. Where does Safair service their aircaft? They seem to be the only ones flying at the moment.
  14. Happy birthday 'Dale. Wishing you a good one and all the best.
  15. @Long Wheel Base I see Lufthansa is pulling 5 of their A340-600 back into service and going to refit the first class seats for routes to North America and Asia. I found that interresting. How are things on your front and with SAA?
  16. Well the photo was not taken in SA. That is in England.
  17. Don't you normally have a form that you can fill in to say who the driver was at the time of the traffic offence. Just put the ex's details there and send it back to the traffic departments. And yes get the car off your name.
  18. Your maiden flight went better than this guy's 747 maiden flights
  19. The thought of the possibility of a soweto taxi flying over my head does not really put me in my comfort zone
  20. Would not say I am bowing out but will only now post now in the technical forums if I have a question maybe and maybe keep an eye on the aviation thread which funny enough did not get chopped. Will go talk crap on discord.
  21. Battle to get time for the bike lately but this past Saturday I just decided stuff it, I am going to ride to a little place in Austria called Eng, that I wanted to ride to with the bike for some time. Have taken the car there to the area in winter but most of the roads are not open for cars as all is snowed up normally in winter. What I thought would be a 140 km ride turned out to be 160 km but man was it a stunning ride and did me the world of good. Body is just not used to sitting on the bike for 5+ hours
  22. https://www.wetteronline.de/wetterticker/b1b1b506-bed2-4cfe-ba39-b9cb98a9af67 So this storm hit our region last night. Where we live was just missed with only one or two "big" balls of ice comming down. But 500 m further north was not so lucky. Absolute chaos. Click on the video to see some of the images and videos
