  1. Here almost every town has a test track for the kids to learn and prepare for their "Cycling license". Just we don't have cool planes parked on them. Otherwise I would have been there more often to practice.
  2. Now this looks like some very cool technology ...
  3. Although I kinda like riding in fog, I tend to be not so excited to share the road with cars in fog. Always felt more unsafe than normal.
  4. I look at the Power and think ... ok not too bad. Then I look at the weight and think .... ag gaan k@k man. There will be nothing left of me if my weight drops to that. In a good year I will drop to 82 and then the wife gets all nasty and mention I better start putting on some weight.
  5. So ... the road bike seems to be out of action for a while. This means I will be spending more time on the MTB. So Saturday a buddy and myself decided to up a hill called Blomberg not too far from us and brush up on our non existing MTB skills. He put the destination into Komoot and said to use MTB. Komoot didn't dissapoint wrt to route suggestions. We hardly did tar sections and we did it all, dirtroad, single track, grass fields, rocky downhills, you name. A decent long climb made up for a pretty nice view. Oh and we took a beer and something to eat to swallow down while enjoying the view. And to finish off my friend stopped us where a bee keeper he know was busy harvesting honey. First time in my life I had fresh honey. It was bloody delicious to say the least.
  6. This is by no means going to be a rest day. Rather windy on this side of the med at the moment. The riders will be dealing with quite a bit wind and gust of 60 km/h (green parts) to up to 90 km/h (orange).
  7. 3 EUR for one Shimano shifting cable here on a online shop. Can buy generic for 0,89 €
  8. Wow and sad. Would that not be the first ever mid air over South African soil?
  9. When I read the topic I immediately knew exactly where it happened and seeing the picture confirmed. That is a very tricky corner and almost went over on one of my first rides going towards Noordhoek as well. Left a bite mark in my shorts but that bloody corner burnt a permanet image in my brain. Glad the oak is ok.
  10. I missed this one on the 737 Max. Seems to have some other issues as well... https://edition.cnn.com/2021/04/09/business/boeing-737-max-electrical-problem/index.html
  11. Crime is everywhere yip. Yes we even had a double murder not too far from here a few years ago. The difference though is huge. The double murder was not the norm and made headline news all over Germany. Motive for the killing, family of the care giver (Polish) got sniff in the nose that the old couple had 50 000€ cash stored in the house. Robbery turned ugly. But within weeks the whole lot (5 suspects) were fished out of Poland where they were hiding and are sitting behind bars now. Here where I live, bicycles are parked on the street. Cars are parked on the streets. Once every couple of years you might hear of a bicycle that got stolen (that was left unlocked) or a pair of shoes that got stolen from the front door. Other than that I don't worry about security. Often forget to leave the car unlocked outside, etc. I am quite happy actually in my bubble thank you.
  12. Not at all. No everybody on the planet is learning to wash their hands and toilette paper is the new gold. Not even Hollywood saw this one comming.
  13. Some feedback: First of all thank you for all the replies. So after having to battle to find new shifter cables I managed to get some. Bloody scary to think that what I used to consider normal spares has become a problem to find. But none the less I got the shifter cables so this past weekend was due date to replace them. Replacing the inner cables turned out to be less of an issue than anticipated. And the hose I wanted to use was not gonna work in anyway as the exit point out of the frame at the rear derailer is only about 2 mm wide. It is simply pushing the cable from the BB where there is a cap to the back and within a couple of touch and go attempts the cable pops out. The original issue as to why the gears would not shift through all the available gears was quickly visible when I wanted to remove the old cable ... Battled to push out the old cable but it came out. Still used the old cable housings as the new cables came with white and I could not source black. The gears at the moment switch smoothly though.
  14. Did not have time for a long ride this weekend. Just had to many things to do over the weekend but could squeeze in a quick one on the Sunday afternoon. Some k@k weather arriving today again but made something of the good weather
  15. Did a nice 100 km on the Easter Monday. The day did not start off that cold but was glad my riding buddy convinced me to get my lazy butt out of bed earlier and start earlier. We had this cold front approaching so the wind was going to pick up at some point. It was a lovely morning with clear skies but then in the last 20 km that wind arrived and boy did it arrive. Smacked you in the face. As we entered our home town, old people who were still on their bikes got of and started pushing their bikes. But it was a nice ride. Woke up this morning with everything covered in snow again. Relive video for those that are interrested... https://www.relive.cc/view/vrqDQxP39wv
  16. Thanks Shebeen. Now at least I know why I can't remember much of the '70s. Part of how my mind deals with trauma is to block it out.
  17. Yip as Pikey said. Mini heatwave. Was odd to only dress up in summer cycling kit and soak up the sun on ride and actually having to down 500 ml of water in an hour and twenty minute ride. A month ago I did 4 hours on only about 250 ml of water. While I was riding in a northern direction along Lake Starnberg, my wife and daughters went to soak up sun a few km south at the lake. The kids decided to actually go into the water. They managed to chest deep in the water. My oldest mentioned the water was very cold. If she said that, it must have been well below 10 degrees. As she swam in 11 degrees water without batting an eyelid. My wife said other people were looking very strangely at them
  18. Is that one of those pictures that if you stare at it long enough you see a "new machine"? Glad to hear you can get back into the saddle. Enjoy and look forward to your pics.
  19. Rouvy has a family setup included in their subscription which can allow you up to 3 users. Well worth the look. Whenever I get to buying my virtual trainer I will be going for Rouvy because of this feature. https://support.rouvy.com/s/article/Family-Sharing?language=en_US
  20. Yip also keeping the winter tyres on. It is their last season in anyway so they can stay on till May at least.
  21. Yip now to getting used to the sun setting an hour later. Always jumps out like a thief at you. Here as well it is still rather cool in the morning. Yesterdays ride was at -4 degrees and this morning slightly warmer at -2 but daytime is going up to 17. 20 Degrees forecasted for today and rest of the week to 22. Till winter is going to have another attempt at us over easter. But for now we are enjoying it and knowing May is on its way. April is always a lotto ticket everyday. You have no idea whats comming. As the say here "April, April, macht was er will". April April does what it wants to.
  22. I think I found the answer thanks. There are some options available. First stop would be the local hardware shop or garden center where they might sell products for fish tanks.
