  1. In Cape Town, both Cycles Direct and Revolution Cycles have the S-works. Saw one yesterday and today and they look amazing!
  2. Selling all my Specialized bikes and equipment as I'm typing this message...
  3. I'm quite confused myself. Hence my post here. Just comparing Die Burger (0.98) vs Durbanville High School (1.05) rides: 96.7km vs 89.6km 1,063m vs 817m Those statistics are according to my Garmin Edge 500 uploaded to Strava. And then if you want to get subjective: gale force winds vs hardly any wind.
  4. That's what I mean by lottery.
  5. These PPA seedings are an absolute lottery. How does the Durbanville High School fun ride have a beta of 1.05 and Die Burger 0.98? It was a shorter distance, less elevation and near perfect weather conditions.
  6. The traffic police can't (don't) even arrest motorists for breaking the "original" laws: speeding, overtaking on solid lines, wreckless driving, etc. Then there's the small matter of illegal licenses... It would just be great if they could get the basics right so that motorists actually drive properly. And that motorists weren't so aggressive and full of "roads were made for cars" bull****. My personal feeling is that this attitude of lawlessness unfortunately stems from the total disregard for rules that minibus taxis have in this country.
  7. Funniest thing I've read in a while!
  8. Really?! I never saw the guy. So I take back what I said about him being an idiot. That section was scary!
  9. Those sections were tough! I was a little worried about my tyres to be honest.
  10. Yeah, what was with that idiot parked there? Edit: my bad. Apparently he was warning cyclists of an accident that had happened earlier.
  11. RE: cramping, I personally rely on these: Cramp Prevent by Biogen: http://www.biogen.co.za/products/cramp-prevent-proseries I use them before every long ride and running race.
  12. Good! They deserve that and more for the trauma they cause.
  13. Disgusting. Lazy motherf**kers!
  14. That was intense! Incredibly tough in parts, but overall thoroughly enjoyable to finish in one piece. Was aiming for sub 3; got in just under 3h10. So still pretty happy.
  15. Awesome work so far!
  16. I'm sorry, but paying for those tests (or anything) to get a higher "rewards" status is just plain wrong for me. I've got over 65,000 points from a free health check at a pharmacy and simply did all the other things you can do (gym visits, upload workouts, online health quiz, etc.). Disclaimer: I'm not the biggest fan of Discovery...
  17. D for death! You can see all the group start times here: http://www.dieburgercycletour.co.za/start-times
  18. Well the weather can only get better than it currently is. Raining buckets in the CBD...
  19. Agreed. And at least hold on to your bottle properly - don't drop it!
  20. That was cool. Fortunatly it was not as windy out in Durbanville as it is here in the CBD! The last 10 km's really dragged on with slightly bigger bunches and loads of shorter distance riders on the route. I'm not even sure what group I started in - meant to be I, but started with a lot of K, L & M riders. I was standing at the back where the 'I' board was, but there were no announcements or anything. Oh well, next time.
  21. I think I should enter too...
  22. Classic! "Sorry, but my BMW didn't come with brakes..."
  23. Thanks, I never saw that. I guess I'll just collect mine at the One Tonner registration tomorrow. Still wish they could just post them...
  24. Hey guys Is it just me or is the PPA incapable of posting seeded numbers to registered, fully paid-up members? For the second year in a row, I've realised a few weeks after renewing my membership that I didn't receive a new seeded number. So when I emailed them this year, I was told they no longer post seeded numbers and you have to collect it from their office. Firstly, thanks for informing me of that. Unless I missed it during membership renewal, I didn't see that announcement anywhere? Secondly, for R295, I'd like to the think the PPA could at least post your seeded number to you. I don't see why they have so many problems with the post when just about everything else gets sent via post without issues. Getting through to Mowbray during the week isn't always feasible, so collecting it myself isn't a possibility. It just feels like such an effort to get something so basic (that you paid for). As for how long it takes to get a reply via email from the PPA... Rant over.
  25. Experienced some morons driving like this on Ou Kaapse Weg a couple of months ago. Overtaking on a solid line, driving ridiculously close to myself and other cars and driving in the wrong lane with oncoming traffic. They really don't do themselves any favours and expect sympathy when they get knocked over.
