  1. I hope the rain stays away (and dries up from today).
  2. Looking forward to it! Extra R20 for the trail tag, so no Racetec for this one. Think it's time to ditch my PPA membership next year. I wish everyone could just work together so you didn't need: CyclingSA license, PPA (not valid for all races for much longer it seems?), Racetec, Amarider...
  3. I rode the "80km" route in 2010 and the 100km road ride. I thoroughly enjoyed both, but decided to enter the 50km MTB ride this year as I've hardly done any mountain biking due to work this year ( ). I had my GoPro with me and took a load of videos and actually just enjoyed the ride (not the race). I have to agree with some of the sentiment around this ride - I don't see myself doing it in future. It's an expensive weekend to do some "races" along jeep tracks in Knysna forest. The vibe in Kynsna during the Oyster Festival is really cool - I think next year I might just come up and ride Harkerville a few times for some actual single track.
  4. Happened to me in Hermanus once. I got off with a warning. Wasn't even aware of it, so I was grateful for the being made aware of my criminal activity!
  5. Looking forward to my next ride then even more so than usual.
  6. I weigh 62kg's and run the following setup: Front -> Specialized The Captain 26x2.0, Rear -> Specialized Fast Trak LK. I usually pump my tires up in the 2.5 to 3.0 PSI range. I've yet to burp a tyre or have a puncture out on a trail that required additional inflating. There have been numerous devil thorns (the nemesis of our tubes) embedded in my tyres, but simply continued riding with them in. I've even removed a few whilst stopped on a ride, only to have the Stans sealant and the 2Bliss tyres eat up the hole from the thorn with minimal if any air pressure lost. I'm definitely going to start experimenting with lower pressures on my next ride after reading this thread.
  7. That sure is great service! Nice one.
  8. I can't remember when last I had anti-biotics or when last I had full-blown flu. A minor cold about once a year is as bad as it gets for me. Antibiotics are the devil's medicine.
  9. As per their website: http://www.knysnacycle.co.za/roadevent/
  10. Very cool trails! I rode there with some friends this morning and thoroughly enjoyed it. Here's the route on Garmin Connect if anybody wants to see the profile etc.
  11. Agreed!
  12. All the information is on the #moonlightmass website: http://www.moonlightmass.co.za Or on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/moonlightmass/ Or on Twitter: https://twitter.com/#!/moonlightmass "#moonlightmass route : we all meet under the Greenpoint turning circle @21:00 at around 21:20 we head towards the waterfront and cut through using a special route by @CTBikeCommuter then along the beach front promenade up along the fan mile to @LongStreetLife and eventually making our way to @andUnion for an ice cold beer and some snacks"
  13. Connex by Wippermann on the Shimano chain of my road bike: http://www.connexcha...link/1_309.html SRAM PowerLink on the SRAM chain of my MTB: http://www.sram.com/...nnector-9-speed When the chain starts to look grimey I take it off, soak it overnight in a big glass bottle full of paraffin. I can't remember where I read that tip. Take it out the next day, rinse off with warm, soapy water. Dry thoroughly outside in the sun (leave it hanging on something). Put back on, lube! If the cassette is super dirty, I'll remove it too with this BBB lock-ring remover: http://bbbcycling.co...-tools/BTL-33L/ and BBB chainwhip (they call it a turntable?) http://bbbcycling.co...p-tools/BTL-11/ Again, a some paraffin on a cloth and clean off each of the cassette sprockets. The drivetrain is the most amount of effort to keep clean in my opinion. The rest is a piece of cake. Having the right tools makes your job easy!
  14. I think it's cool.
  15. I'm a huge fan of Cape Storm in terms of cost/comfort, having only ever used First Ascent previously.
  16. Such a small amount of recovery time for those who just make the cut-off. Respect to them!
  17. Permatubes were the business! Brings back good memories.
  18. Well put - those were my thoughts exactly.
  19. @africanmtbkid man team 360 life were strong today. racing positively and agressive. modt fun stage so far! well done to merida too. we had great company https://twitter.com/#!/africanmtbkid/status/185322223932940290 Maybe Burry was asked to change his tone with regards to 360 Life after yesterday's post race interview?
  20. Obviously tubeless tyres are still prone to sidewall cuts/tears, but surely sealant in a tubeless setup would prevent punctures from thorns? This is in specific relation to the loss of almost double the amount of time they were behind at one of the water points up until the end of the stage.
  21. Great photos! It was fun watching today - looked really tough out there on those climbs with the heat. I also took a few photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mikkelz/sets/72157629663599819/
  22. Nice!
  23. I do the same as fandacious: thread it through one of the straps on my shoe. Never had any issues with timing mats not registering it.

    Argus Expo

The only thing that blew me away about the expo this year, was the wind when I left at 19:30 last night.
  25. My '09 Specialized Roubaix Comp came with the Roubaix Comp (not II) tyres. I got a puncture on my first ride from a huge slash in one of the tyres and haven't used them since. Gatorskins FTW!
