  1. Goeie genade, so much negativity! If brands didn't sell crazy expensive superbikes to mamils with deep pockets they wouldn't have the budget to spend on the R&D to create them in the 1st place. I will likely never earn enough money in my chosen career to buy something like this short of winning the Lotto, but I also don't have any negative feelings towards Spez for building it, or anybody who has the means to buy one. As an engineering exercise it's amazing that you can buy a bike this light off the shelf, just like its amazing that Merc can sell you a 300kw A-class with a warranty. I might not be their intended market, but I can definitely dream about how much faster I would get up the hills of the 94.7 on something 4kilos lighter than my bike.
  2. Absolutely gorgeous bike, so clean looking!
  3. Agreed on that Ordu's looks, and putting weight as low as possible can only help the handling. I also actually really like the paint on that specific one, must be honest I'm just not a black bike kinda guy, and finding a black bike in a sea of black bikes when you're stumbling around after overcooking the swim can't be fun, shouldn't be many bikes in that colour in transition.
  4. Bike looks fantastic, now to keep the frame polished and sealed/waxed so it stays white

    Shaving

I'm with you there Ouzo, just prefer to be smooth. My wife hates facial hair anyway, and when we started dating I was advised that a level of tit for tat was required downstairs, if I want her clean, I must trim properly, and have been doing so happily. Then I bought some really short Speedo trunks for swim training, and realized I had to shave/trim right up to my butt which is a bit of a pain, but looks better than having smooth legs to the back of the knee followed by bunches of hair up to the trunks. Wife teased me to go for a wax for years and I finally relented last year. Norraf*k not doing that again! I did 6 sessions before I finally decided that the pain is just not worth it.
  6. Haha Geared I got lucky with the TYR sale a few weeks ago, got their Hurricane Cat 1 to my door for R 3330. Now to get to 4 kilo's lighter than my pre-lockdown weight so the thing will actually fit.
  7. Entered! Did both the runs and bought 2 pairs of the Virtual Run socks to boot.
  8. I don't get all the hate. Toyota charges R1,5m for a Cruiser that really doesn't offer 2020 (more like 2015) tech, and is most often not even driven on the kinda terrain that justifies it's existence, yet people aspire to own one and no one starts a riot. Something like 70% of all Golfs sold in SA are the Gti derivative, why, because buyers want them. Spez updates the most winningest XC bike in existence and most comments are about it's price, which as Tread indicated, isn't even the highest in the category, but no one is ragging Scott. It seems it really is like owning a BMW, people will immediately believe that you are going to drive like a box. Don't get me wrong, I agree that a S-Works Epic really isn't the bike for everyone, and I wouldn't buy the non-Evo version Epic either, but why judge people who want the raciest machine just because they do (and can afford it). My wife hates the relaxed geo on my Camber, and she's by no means a racing snake. It seems that social media has really become a place to judge and complain (which I am making myself guilty of too I know) but why not rather say it look's awesome, and I'd like one and move on, or simply move on without commenting.
  9. Looks hot. Going deep is always better, haha
  10. Maybe that's what I'm doing wrong, my mtb shoes are red
  11. I have heard good things about Dr J Aumuller who works from Muelmed.
  12. Bought a pair of the MRP Barracudas and a bottle of baby oil, will test them out tomorrow
  13. Eish no, not at R20k, sounded like a great idea but that's just way too much, beautiful design though.
  14. The MP1 looks like a fantastic way to improve the experience of indoor training, and it's great that it's compatible with other brands of trainer. Would be interesting to see what it costs though.
  15. That's a good point Roguemeister. I will admit that I also have not taken the best care of my goggles, not always rinsing them after use and not washing them properly regularly enough. I have also started to experience occasional leaking so guess i'm due for a new pair, or 2 in fact.
  16. Tnx guys, some good advice and suggestions. The Orca Goggle Mask or the Arena one from Sportsman's both look like viable options as I would prefer something with larger lenses.
  17. Well, pretty crappy RedHub Standard for me this past weekend, still trying to wrap my head around why I sucked so badly. I may have started a little too far to the front for the mass start swim and got too much of the human washing machine for my liking, but got out of that and thought I was doing ok till I cramped majorly in my right leg with about 300m to go while trying to clean my completely fogged up goggles. Never had that before and I never cramp as a rule. Garmin of course paints a different story of shortened stroke and terrible swolf score which explains the poor time of 35 minutes. While I always expect to swim slower in open water I was surprised by how much slower I was at around 2:29 / 100 versus my pool average of sub 1:50. Nothing much to report on the bike really, average speed still way below what I want it to be but that will come with more training. The run however was another story, 3k into the run there was this loose downhill piece of trail and it was from there that both my knees decided they had had enough, with most of the remaining 7k being so painful that I was limited to a walk, and 1:25 for the run leg. All in 3:44 placed me 52/74 finishers, reckon on my normal running pace a 3:25- 3:30 would have been possible for a much more palatable mid 30's / 74. I guess that just proves that I should make a plan to do a lot more open water swims, and invest in some better goggles. At least there is almost 6 months to 5150 Bela Bela within to improve, and I would most likely have a wet suit by then which will also help.
  18. Yeah absolutely agree with you there, more often than not their bikes would run 1 level lower parts than their direct opposition yet, if you look at the market research reports hey are a top selling brand so clearly we (and me, as our household has 4 of their bikes) are allowing this. We can also not only point fingers at them though, there are other culprits in the cycling world. The same holds true for the car industry if we look at what "standard or basic" specification is on some cars. When I bought my little VW Up in 2016 it came fitted with a R 4000 odd "Driver" package that included rear park distance and cruise control. At that time BMW had the audacity to charge in the vicinity of R 10k for similarly basic rear park distance on a million plus M4, yet I'm pretty sure they sell more of those than VW does Ups.
  19. Agreed, and having tried the Comp version of the current Turbo Levo, I'd be very happy with either that or the Comp Carbon. No need to go north in model or price, those would do nicely.
  20. @Andymann, how did Blyde go?
  21. Very well done Shaper!
  22. Haha, if only. I ride a 4 yo alloy trail bike that's not being replaced anytime soon. My point was simply that many who shudder at the price of these bikes forget that there is a lot extra on them for the extra money over the bikes they are based on. The fact that I understand why a Bentley Bentayga costs more than an Audi Q8 doesn't mean I wll ever be able to afford one
  23. That's great Andymann! Best of luck at Blyde Must say, the biggest difference in my swimming came when I improved my breathing. I used to be absolutely knackered quite quickly, and very out of breath, once I slowed down my arms to match my breathing, and learned to take smaller breaths, rather than gasps of it, I found that my endurance went up a lot. BTW, anyone else doing RedHub Standard Road Tri on the 16th? Will be my 1st standard distance, hoping to sneak in under 4 hours, not sure if my run/walk will allow though.
  24. I have ridden the Turbo Levo V1 and loved it. Then I rode the V2 and loved it even more. My wife also takes very kindly to it after trying one. I am also certain that I would love the SL version, and would happily replace my current non-motorized trail bike with one, if I had the funds to do so. The price also doesn't surprise me, let's be honest, this isn't a Makro-spec bike with a fancy motor and battery just slapped on, this is a Stumpy (which ranges from about R50-150K) with added engineering, added high end battery, high end motor and high end electronic controller so it SHOULD cost a hell of a lot more than the bike it's based on. This may very well be the perfect amount of assistance and weight to be the single quiver bike for a bunch of riders who felt that the normal version was just a little too heavy and assisted to be their daily. While I will not be getting one (as I have my sights set on a tri bike) I hope those who do will reap much enjoyment from them.
  25. All the short course triathlons I have seen are on Sundays.
