  1. Most of the comments on FB still about the camera orientation.
  2. Most exciting news of press conference so far...
  3. Is that it?
  4. Seeing as the prize is a Rearview radar maybe the surprise is that there won't be road closures.
  5. Has anyone looked at taking out insurance on this event being cancelled again? I will enter for 2018 but if its not too expensive i would like to take insurance out on it too.
  6. Staalwater Mtb Caledon
  7. Really enjoyed the 60km today especially the beautiful scenery. Well marked route. Water points well stocked and had some nice extras. The banana bread was lekker. Unfortunately i saw what looked like a very serious injury on the 60km. Heard at one waterpoint that the rider had a back injury and at next point that a heli was despatched but couldnt land. Hope the rider is OK.
  8. How tough are the routes compared to, say Nissan Trailseekers? Deciding between the 37 and the 63.
  9. Really enjoyed the 40km. I found the route was well marked and the relative abundance of single track was a delight. The two water points were well stocked with a variety of goodies, however the first water point on close to 20km was maybe a bit of a stretch for some. The scenery was beautiful and the weather sublime. i am so glad they moved this event to a cooler time of year as it made the whole outing far more enjoyable this time around.
  10. Wasnt this also tweeted by Trump recently?
  11. Haha. You okes. And there I was riding my dual suss (so not a "real" bike) on the 40km (so no single track for me), munching my energy bar (not required but didn't litter though), sipping from my 2litre Camelbak (two words apparently) and stopping at the water points. Even through all this i somehow managed to enjoy the ride too.
  12. Thanks but was able to make a plan with a friend's family in the mean time.
  13. you would think so for an event this size. it worked a treat at W2W. i e-mailed Zandile about this and got this answer: Thanks for this. No - we have offered this to Rotary and many other charities but the size of the event (4700 riders) and the logistics have not got us any takers. Riders are chatting to each other on social media to see if anyone has friends coming that you can pay to drive for you. We also have the shuttles who can take a rider and bike over to fetch vehicles. There is also camping still available and a free tog bag service back to the finish for any tents / luggage OR you can bring a support person with you. Edit: i was referring to someone driving your car from U to K for you.
  14. Enjoyed the long route and experienced another first which was the guy playing the harmonica while cycling. You legend!
  15. Leave it until the week of the event so you don't over train and burn yourself out.
  16. Thanks for the reminder. Entered the 42.
  17. For what it's worth, i cracked my alu KTM frame after about a year and received a replacement without any quibbles (awesome) BUT i had to wait about 6-8weeks for the replacement (sub-awesome). It seems like the parts are rather non-standard (the RD hanger is KTM bike specific and as mentioned elsewhere if not taken from a donor bike it has to be ordered in), the pitch of the thread of the rear through axle is wider than standard readily available ones so that's also a pain. Same with the shock bushings... I am quite accident prone and went through a lot of parts. In the end i bought a cheap HT just to bridge me over the times i was waiting for parts for the KTM.
  18. Erik came past so fast i didnt even see the fork on his bike I saw the Lauf on a bike at the finish.
  19. Enjoyed the 50miler. I found the last 20km was rather tough. MASSIVE respect for the 100miler riders! Erik Kleinhans rode past me at about 55km into my ride so 135km into his. Up the hill and away into the distance like it was nothing. First time i ever see a gravel grinder with a lauf fork. Seriously cool looking machines.
  20. Registration was a breeze. Now just two more sleeps!
  21. First timer. 50miler. Looking forward to this! So: Dual Suss, HT or Gravel Grinder? Edit: I'm a rider not a racer. Middle of the pack at best and currently leaning towards the DS as i think many km's of corrugated gravel might take its toll towards the end.
  22. Lovely! So the guy looked at the shoe sized box and thought: "Yip, definitely a whole bike in there!" Edit: sized
  23. Sorry. I cut off the Tariff Heading Code. It is 8712.00.10 - Bicycles
