  1. Looks like he's a proper oxygen thief & a waste of skin (based on reading this and other posts) How do you stop him from coming on here under new names and fleecing the unsuspecting. Clearly he likes / sees huge opportunity to take advantage of cyclists.
  2. Lifetime ban....... for taking EVOX from dischem???
  3. I recon it applies to any sport that involves speed, power or endurance. Hell target shooters have used beta blockers to calm their nerves. If there's an angle....., someone will take the gap. And if drugs don't help, they'll figure a way to bend the rules and use illegal equipment.
  4. Very valid point - but is it any different from elite competition in many other sports (Gymnastics, motorbike racing to ping pong, etc. - football/soccer being maybe the exception) Hence, I would assume that the same hunger & drivers are there in those other sports too. So I might assume/conclude that those sports are just as dirty???? Just a thought.....
  5. What do these things have in common? Alcohol prohibition The War on Drugs Pissing up a rope Just saying, but it seems like Pandora's box is already open. So now what? Is WADA worthwhile or is it a hole for money?
  6. Don't joke. I got an unhealthy dose of that one winter morning. Rider in front put up a spay of it, like a slalom skier. So gross, I willingly climbed into the Spruit to try wash off. Later, stood in front of a fire hydrant to shower off, cold be damned! That stuff sticks like **** to a blanket. The smell was awful, but dammit the taste...... Scarred for life - Hate the Spruit!!
  7. maybe it's the only way to pass some of the crowds, it gets busy out there.
  8. While few may have to live with the consequences of their violent defensive actions, I'm sure many here are living with the consequence of having violent crimes perpetrated directly against them and their family. Lets hear from them, would they prefer to play possum or have the option to fight back effectively? If they were attacked while cycling, do they still ride?
  9. The reality is that a gun is just a tool, like a knife, stick or any other tool. A tool in the hands of a fool remains just a tool. I can strip bolts just as well as anybody with a torque wrench, but in the right hands, its an invaluable asset. Fighting in its many forms is a martial art. So is fighting with a gun. A skilled shooter can take on 5 armed men and win, from concealed carry. BUT, you must know, you stand a real chance of getting shot and you must also know, that getting shot is not the end of the fight. Truth is most people miss at close range under extreme duress. A skilled shooter won't. Also, "they" expect abject fear & submission; the psychological advantage is gained when you attach back. Often, merely going for the gun or a single shot is enough to break the contact & send them running - no need to mow everyone down! In most cases, the attackers will flee without pressing home their attack. Very, very few will stick around. The martial art of the gun is like any other and requires the right training, mindset and practice. If you are not prepared or skilled, you may not be able to use a gun effectively. But no one has the right to deny you the option of the best last option - A gun. have a look - He's no speed demon, but he was very effective - See how they bail. You only need a second or two to win back the advantage https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBYSau64LOc
  10. You are well entitled to your opinion but your facts are wrong. Very few people die "at the hand of their own gun" Doctors, swimming pools and prescription drugs are far more lethal. Stupidity & ego perhaps being the most lethal. You may be right to a degree about the ego & chip, but I bet you have met even more good folks that you didn't know were gun owners.
  11. These criminals are cowards, which is exactly why they target cyclists - We are an easy target, exactly because it is difficult to be effectively armed while riding, esp. in cycling kit. If they experience a fight back, they will bail and if they escape unscathed, they will target other areas and/or other soft targets, joggers, dog walkers, etc. - unfortunately it's unlikely they will rush off to church & repent! Cyclists are just a part of their "normal" food chain, and now empowered with a gun or knife, these vermin will pray on any perceived weak/soft target. Being armed and prepared to fight, if left no alternative, is just Panado for a bigger problem. Crime is a symptom of the greater lack of human decency & respect that is all pervasive in our society at all levels, just look how we behave on the roads. But removing Panado from the world won't solve the sickness. To me, education & improved socioeconomic conditions will help to a degree, but this won't address the issue. Look how No 1 & his cohorts behave - they have just elevated themselves to more elaborate forms of theft & thuggery, they haven't elevated themselves to being honorable men! The do-gooders & bunny huggers can wring their hands and lament but until a morel evolution happens (unlikely). I suggest carry Panado to deal with the symptoms. (Read the insert, follow the instructions & use with caution) Of equal concern, are those that are not directly involved but stand by "blind" to the problem. Apparently good people, but they do nothing to stop these vermin, while being fully aware of who they are and what they do. They are exactly the breeding ground that allows these vermin the freedom to move with impunity. It is these breeding grounds of filth that should be targeted for proactive actions to prevent crime.
  12. To the OP, while not ideal for general use, I'd advise a chest rig holding the gun in a vertical position that allows for ambidextrous access or across for strong hand access. You won't find one on the rack (not in ZA anyway), you will need to have it made. No zipper pouches, just a decent retention holster. Go with broad straps of a washable material. picture a 1-cup bra with a gun in it. Wear a thin/mesh breathable cycling vest, then the rig and then a full front zip shirt. make sure the front zip has a good size pull tab on it and is a solid zip, not some flimsy thing that jams. As for the gun, go with what you have, if it has a firing pin block and a solid reputation. It's better than nothing. If you feel your firearm is unsuitable, go with a glock or S&W or similar polymer hi-capacity in 9mm with good hollow points. You are knowledgeable enough of the law, but, I'd suggest you get involved in either IPSC or IDPA. They will help ensure you have the gun handling & marksmanship skills to use the tools to the maximum benefit of your capability level, while limiting the risk to you and all around, if the need ever arises. You'll be amazed at what can be done in 5 seconds from a concealed draw by a practiced shooter. As for tactics, take time to visualise & understand possible threat scenarios and think / plan accordingly. Also be very aware that uninvolved bystanders my not be so uninvolved. If threatened, avoid tunnel vision on the threat, take in the full threat potential and choose your actions. Winning a fight by 100 meters is still winning! NOTE: If you fall badly, it will break your ribs, but so will falling badly. Ensure the rig can't fly up and smack you in the teeth, it hurts only a lot & the results are ugly!
  13. Yip, and faster than most, well in ZA anyway - read my name ;-) But seriously, You have some strong opinions for a pacifist, yet your public identity is all about guns - really??? Oh, I forgot - You also appear to be a troll. Apologies to the OP and others trying to have a constructive discussion.
  14. You are such a hypocrite - look at your avatar!!!???!!! What the hell is that supposed to symbolise? Glorification of Guns & Violence? Wyatt Earp, synonymous with gunslinger?
  15. Warning - Rant on!!! WTF is wrong with people in this country??!!?? We are a nation of baby raping, murdering, rioting, pillaging savages!! To qualify for human rights, you need to be human - not a savage!! I'm all for culling people & making room for elephants & rhinos - Rainbow nation, MY ARSE!!!! KILL 'em ALL!!!! To the OP, you go boy! Figure out the best way to carry and let us know.
  16. Best 3 years of our lives ;-)
  17. Strangely, the "non-standard" hose was fatter than shimano hoses, couldn't fit the shimano ferrule over the hose. That's what tipped me off. Hose also had no markings? (Chinese fake? ;-))
  18. I had a similar issue with my SLX rear brake. The front was awesome, but the rear would bite, but then was a bit spongy and with more fingers & force, the lever would pull all the way to the handlebar. before locking up the rear wheel. Prior to lockup, braking wasn't how I wanted it. Long story short, I replaced pads, changed the oil, bled the brakes numerous times, myself & twice at LBS - nothing helped. Then I noticed that the brake hoses were not standard (I bought them 2nd hand off the hub) So I got Shimano XTR brake hose and replaced the old one - BANG!! Rear brake worked like a demon. Instant bite 1 finger braking. No sponginess modulation was perfect with no excessive travel. My casual observation - the other brake hose was expanding minutely under pressure, reducing the effectiveness. Not a big issue on the front as the hose is short. But over the length of the rear hose, this expansion was enough to degrade performance.
  19. I thought that one of benefits of going 29" is that your mass, relatively, is lowered and closer to the hubs of the wheels resulting in better stability - More like sitting "in" the bike than "on" it. Some okes on 26" look like those circus bears on mini bikes. Any thoughts, explanations?
  20. I like the Large Frame / short stem idea. bit nervous to order unseen. Good to know it works for someone the same height.
  21. I'm happy to do the build myself, in fact I prefer it, then I know no one took a shortcut. But they generally want to sell me the full bike at new price and then "trade" me the components as "used" Also try railroad me into the components they have stock i.e. Not willing to order specific parts. I'm happy to pay fair price, but selling/ trading "new" parts as "used" & then paying "new" price again, feels a bit like non-consensual intercourse! Also, just buying the components online is a bit rude price wise. But maybe that is the only way
  22. Excluding my first bike, I have built all my bikes cos anything off the shelf is a compromise, like someone threw it all in a blender to meet a specific price point. Mix & match of components. Not the right saddle for me. Stem generally too long. Wheels not tubeless or to my liking Tires not Tubeless Stem, seatpost, bars saddle all different makes. So I would buy a bike, sell everything I don't want (at a loss), and start upgrading = SUX Here's what I want: Carbon HT medium maybe large (I'm 1.79m) Shimano XT all over Ritchey Bars, seatpost & "Short" Stem Ritchey Saddle Ritchey, Mavic 29" wheels - Tubeless XT Centre lock Rotors 180 front 160 rear Conti or Schwalbe Tires The frame measurements & geometry would determine Stem & bars. Any Bike shops prepared to do custom builds???
  23. Ok this thread has gone AWOL - so.... Speaking of WADA, I lost track of what's happened to Daryl Impey?
  24. Ha Ha - you're either damn short or damn tall
  25. Just a casual observation (no science involved) - Don't Flame me. Looking at the MTB Hardtails for sale, seems like they are all in the WC!?! Well the ones I might like to buy anyway. Maybe you guys just do more cycling down there and it's not the weather. BTW, thanks for the secondhand weather you're sending our way this week. Looks like we gonna freeze some more.
