  1. Off topic - But you went "there" and so did the OP - race card!!! Action / reaction Cause & effect Hate doesn't come from nowhere Neither does racism. These are reactions to situations - maybe overreactions or excessive, but reactions none the less. To generalise; When someone is driving like a total toss with zero consideration for others or the law, who is it? When my families bikes got stolen out the garage this past week, who was it? Who has the R 100 k worth of my personal belongings that have been pilfered in the past 2 years? It wasn't 7 meaty okes wearing AWB Ystergarde uniforms??!!?? So over time, my attitude has hardened and I begin to have preconceived ideas and expectations. Call me prejudiced or even racist - I could care less. Only a fool doesn't learn from painful past experiences. These learnings prepare us to deal with the future and not be caught out for a sucker. back on topic - maybe these roadies have learnt from painful experience that doing it this way is the safest?

  3. I try look like a roadie on dirt and a thug on the road - Why fit in? But seriously, I have tried many and those 2 fit my pip. The Giro bit me instantly on my forehead. Currently have a Bell Variant, no hot-spots, no complaints. I'm more concerned about warranty and crash warranty - It's gonna happen , why pay twice?
  4. Maybe I should have set a price ceiling i.e. R 1 800 Max Giro Aeon = R 3 000 Yeah, I know, $10 head get a $10 helmet
  5. Time for a new helmet for MTB, was thinking: Bell Sweep or Rudy Sterling Heard some disturbing quality issues with Rudy - What is your experience?
  6. Oh God!!!!
  7. Big up Keep at it
  8. Not to be full of ****, but..... English clearly isn't your first language. Based on your picture, I might assume that you are Afrikaans speaking? Why not just post in Afrikaans? Those that can, will reply in Afrikaans, others that understand may reply in english. It might make for better communication. P.S. I mean no ill by this. I know I would battle horribly if I had to post in Afrikaans, never mind any other of the official languages. Sorry, if my assumption is wrong and your first language is something else and you are doing your best in English. In which case, keep at it

  10. What would be a good wheel & tyre build for a 650b Hardtail XC Project. (Aside for the best deal I can find on the hub) I've been riding Mavic Crosstrails Front: Conti. UST Mountain King & now X-King 2.4 Rear: Conti. UST Race King 2.2 Maybe not the lightest combo, but proven "bomb proof" Done Sabie Experience, Wine2Whales, Berg&Bush with no tyre/wheel issues. What would give similar performance in a 650b build? No Hub/freewheel issues Holds true in rough conditions Tough Spokes Puncture proof Good local support & parts availability (JHB area) Maybe lighter build? Who / where do I find these at what price? BTW - I'm 1,79 meters, 80kgs.
  11. There is a cycle park @ Modderfontein??? tell me more please?
  12. Buying volumes make a huge difference. E.g. The local agents cost on digital cameras is more than the overseas online retail price - Sound familiar? Large multi-national corporate has global agreement directly with the manufacturer. Corporate gets global pricing, leaving nothing on the table for local whole-seller, never-mind the local reseller. But do they expect world class local support!!!! Our tiny little market has Zero buying power. Also love how the MBA's at these multi-national corporates expound on universal wisdom, like, Think Globally, Act Locally. Ultimately its about the MONEY!!!! Nothing Else Matters!
  13. Your problem does sound like a maintenance issue and bleeding should get everything back to normal. Something out of left field. Brake hoses flex / expand under pressure. Although, the flex is tiny, the rear hose has more flex over it's entire length compared to the front. Hence all the fancy / high cost braided brake hoses, etc. I have never been able to get my rear brake to feel as "solid" as the front.
  14. And the same phenomenon explains why bowls is the most deadly sport!!! Also, the most dangerous snake in the world is likely to be the most common, not the most venomous! More toppies chasing medals, higher likelihood of some dying. Better than dying sitting on the couch fat as a pig?
  15. His or mine? Mine is 30.9mm x 350mm
  16. Damn that must have hurt when it hit you, right there!!! but, if you would like a 2nd hand (previously loved) replacement ...... https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/49715-ea70-seatpost-309-x-350/ Sorry for the HiJack
  17. Be greatful he's on a bicycle - at least its quiet! Nothing like a Hero on a super-bike taking a racing line and cutting the apex. The fact that you heard him coming, does nothing to mitigate the brown adrenalin rush that occurs as he blasts past and you feel the heat coming off the engine.
  18. And what goes up & down must .......
  19. Crikey Moses! I read all of this for what ....? Hell's teeth man, I don't even know what started it all? Someone please fill me in?
  20. Thanks guys. i will check out both options. Appreciate your advice. Thanks
  21. Thanks for that. I will chase that down Maybe there is hope :-) I was hoping Johann might respond as well.
  22. hmmm.... that's what I thought?!? Guess I'm still paying for my eagerness and inexperience. Dammit - School fees!
  23. A while back, my Reba seals failed before a race, so in a hurry and being a noob, I rushed to the LBS and left the proud owner of a new SID team - Probably paid double what I should have, but I was in a hurry. Now, I want to put it on another bike and find that they cut the steerer so short, its almost useless. Long story short, can a new steerer be fitted?
  24. Also looking for a silver bullet here. I have 2 boys, 7 & 4 and they seem to do some awesome bug selection and bring it on home for me to try. Long story short; before my boys arrived, I never used my medical aid. Now, in just the last 6 months, I have been at the doc every month. It almost totally derailed my Berg&bush weekends. Antibiotics before the 3 day. Snotty head for the 2 day. Still snotty with a sore throat today!! Dammit, this sickness is not only making it difficult to train, its seriously destroying my quality of life. Does this stuff help?
  25. Harsh, I know. But how can you race if you are not prepared to learn to help yourself with the basics. Yes, I know most don't / can't, but it doesn't mean its right. If you go down and bend / break something, on any ride, do you just sit there or walk home? Phone a friend? Ruin the ride for the rest of your mates that must hang around and help? Everyone should be able to do the basics, fix a flat, join a chain, adjust their gears and maintain their ride in a reasonable working order i.e. book it in for a regular service by those that really know. How many times have you helped someone with no tools, no tube & no clue? yes, everyone is a noob at some point and they are the ones we should all help, esp. the pretty ones. For the rest of us, we owe it to ourselves & others to be capable, not clueless / helpless.
