  1. Yeah, whatever! Handbags at 10 paces. we'll duke it out.
  2. where are you based? It might be good to get some rides in together before you commit to irritating each other over 3 days. Sorry, no symilcast on this post "Druk die rooi knoppie"
  3. @ Unicycle4Change Good man, thank you for your response and apology. You take it on the chin well. In light of your response, I would like to take back my "jibes" about proving yourself & apologise for any ill feeling towards you. I then put it to CSA to sanction unicycles for MTB races. I also put it to organisers to NOT join routes and cause chaos.
  4. LOL - that popcorn is history, chowed it all myself I knew I was causing trouble when I posted this, but I feel better now. Some interesting responses - HTFU - Lol. maybe I should post a poll?
  5. Short routes joined the 70km route about 10km from the end. Hence all kinds and skill levels get mixed together.
  6. My last word on it. 1. Bad idea to join the shorter routes in as things narrow - just looking for trouble and ruins the event. 2. Unpredictable zigzag all over the place - looking for more trouble. 3. Snotty attitude when clearly making a menace of himself - attracts venom! 4. Unsanctioned by CSA - Hmmm, get out my way, coming through on my racing quad!! Honestly, if the attitude were different, I'd write it off to experience. Peace out.
  7. Just over the crest of a hill on single track, next to a fence. Both going down. I was closing faster, he zigged in front on me, I went farming to avoid him. I have had my say. The rules are clear. So flame me if you see fit.
  8. Ok get the popcorn, I'm gonna start a fight!!!!!! So, I had my say about the Down & Dirty, re. joining courses and resulting mayhem!!! Now add to the magic, someone on a unicycle. This thing zigzags all over, as he tries to avoid rocks etc. making it almost impossible to guess which way to go to avoid a collision, never mind overtake him. Long story short, I had to go "Farming" to avoid him and tore up my rear tire and had a nice long walk home. Add insult to injury, this unicyclist is all mouthy, making comments like: . I got rid of my training wheels . Telling others to "FO" when they complained that he wasn't holding his line and getting in the way!!! Well here's a message for you chop. CSA MTB RACE REGULATIONS 1.9.2 Bicycles must use a wheel on both front and back for all disiplines of Mountain Bike competition that is no bigger than 26 inches. Mountain bikes using two 29” wheels may now also be used. your zigzag action is just dangerous when things get tight. If I had crashed as a result of you, there would have been a fight. If you feel the need to prove your "super" abilities and draw praise upon yourself, get a proper bloody bike and win the event. Else stay out the way!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. In principle you are 100% right, we shouldn't have to check - It should just be right, that's what you pay for. But principle is of little solace when you are nursing a busted bike to the finish or worse, a busted body. Support the guys that do a good job. Flame the ones that get it wrong, so that others are saved the same shoddy service. Thanks VeloGuy for the heads up on the In-Complete cyclist
  10. No excuse for shoddy service, but word of advice... CHECK you ride after being serviced!!!!! Sometimes its hard to get the gears just right without actually riding, esp. duel sus. Sometime they just forget to tighten everything up when they are done - get you hurt badly!!!!!! Sometimes you will find someone else's wheels on your bike. Bottom line, check your bike and test ride it before a race. But again, no excuse for crappy work :-(
  11. Was / is your rear caliper aligned with the rotor? Don't be to quick to knock the metal - resin is fine till there is mud!! A long day with mud will "eat" resin pads in no time. This makes fast downhills real exciting when your brakes fail. Been running LX and now SLX with sintered pads for 2 years now. They make more noise, but they last and they work! I'm no expert, but that's my 2 cents :-)
  12. Who's been bike jacked? Where? Instead of having a bitch session, I was wondering if there is a Google map we can all mark with the locations of bike jackings. That way: 1. we can avoid the area 2. we can co-ordinate with e-blockwatch and others to get local security companies or even the cops to patrol proactively. Link this map to a sticky on this site. Is there such a map already? Just thinking out loud.
  13. From my POV, I am sick to death of this savage, lawless behavior. If you cannot abide by societies rules and norms, you should remove yourself or be removed. But, cos I'm white, I'm a racist for calling it out. If that's the case, I put my hand up high and say I'M A RACIST. P.S. Yes, I don't see white people doing the things I listed. Maybe I'm colour blind.
  14. Jeeeeeeez, are you serious?!? For real??? Have you read the headlines lately?? When last did you see / hear: Gang of gun-wielding white men attach family in their home, father killed, mother & daughter raped!! Group of white Metro Police have shootout with SAPS during strike action! Disgruntled white municipal employees go on rampage and trash the streets! White taxi drivers bring the city to a halt with freeway blockade! Seriously, WTF?!?!?
  15. Ross the giant!! good with babies as well. Sorts colic and all sorts.
  16. ey men.... so much of carbon on dat ting, ek se! Sexy as ell, but a bit short on the bring! But I just realized that in the last pic, there is no front suspension!!!??? With all of that, you'd look a little silly if you don't win.
  17. I took up cycling cos I don't need to beg no man for permission to ride my bike. I cycle instead of shooting, which is / was my first passion. I ran a shooting club, shot every weekend, competed at provincial & national level. But I refuse to lick the crack of some illiterate, ignorant, bad attitude, SOB in order to retain my licenses. The stupid MoFo's don't even have the ability to differentiate between the various firearms, calibers & their uses. It's like not knowing a MTB from a road bike, never mind soft vs. hard tail!!!!! However, of late, what with bike jackings, road carnage, etc, etc. I've come to the conclusion that the ANC has achieved its ultimate goal of making this country ungovernable. You cannot own anything, experience anything or participate in anything without first spending a fortune on security. Then you spend a second fortune on insurance in case your security fails to prevent these lawless savages from robbing you at gun point. And god help you if you use lethal force to protect yourself, cos then you will spend every cent you will ever earn, defending your actions. Amandla!!!!
  18. Some mates got jacked this morning out Erasmia, Mnandi, Gardner Ross area. Don't know the details, but as per his sms "Got the #uckers, recovered all 5 bikes" They still at the cop shop now - 6pm. Anyone been a victim there recently should talk to the cops again soon. Might be the same #uckers. I will update with more details as / when I can.
  19. What about aspirin? A runner suggested that half a tab before an endurance event will be useful. Not sure why
  20. right, googled the hell out of it. did the measurements as suggested here and compared with other online info. And my seat is maybe a bit low by 1cm. not going to move it yet. by all available info, my seat was a little too far forward i.e. knee too far over my toe. Cleats are good. I moved the seat back till my knee was over the pedal axle - approx. 2cm . done 2 morning rides and my pedal action looks better, my foot is flat (not toe down nor heal down) Also felt my glutes working more.
  21. Thanks David. I think my setup is very close to being good. But I think a proper, paid for, setup is maybe overdue. That way I can stop second guessing and get on with riding :-)
  22. Thanks for the sanity check guys. Yes I was in front, :-) @ Chowder, I'll consider myself blinded by science. I'll study / re-study your response and see where I find myself. Been riding approx. 70km on both Saturday & Sunday for the past couple of weeks with no pain. But I think I might gain in power / efficiency by adjusting my foot position. Damn, I need all the help I can get. Thanks again for the info.
  23. good point, not sure, will check. Buy "does your leg extend too far?" do you mean my knee going to lockout? If so, I think my knee stays very slightly bend. It doesn't go straight or past straight to "lock out"
  24. A riding partner pointed out that my foot position is not right: Heel raised & toes pointed down, even on the down stroke. I didn't notice until he pointed it out. Otherwise I'm comfortable on the bike. No knee aches, etc. Should I push the saddle back? If so, how far? Should I move the cleats further back on my shoes? If so how far? Should I do both? BTW, I ride a duel sus Yeti, want comfort for Wine2wales & Sabie Experience.
  25. Club 100 MTB guys ride from Mug & bean on weekends.
