  1. I'm aiming for a 5:20 which should be manageable. It's a lot easier than Panorama unless you are planning on a very fast time. The two climbs are nothing too hectic and if the wind blows there are lots of bunches to hide in. If you are unfit or not used to five hours saddle time you are going to hurt!
  2. You are going to end up resting at least 30 mins between stages (depending how fast you are) so there isn't much you can do about cooling down. Trying to stick to the front bunch will warm you up plenty quick! I eat quite a bit between stages but then I am greedy. Vegetable soup, muffin and coffee for breakfast after stage one (that warm soup is great after a cold start), plate of pasta for lunch and snacks (peanuts, sweets) between stages 3 and 4. Add a few gels for on the bike and you should be good to go.
  3. You can ride harder than you normally would for a 175 km event, plenty of time to recover between stages. Bring warm kit, it can be freezing before 7 am on that loooong descent and there is a tog bag truck to pack your kit into. A few gels should last you as there is so much food between stages. See you there!
  4. Fell off my bike on Saturday, tarmac strips skin easily at 50 kph! Hope the road rash softens by next week because nothing is keeping me away from the Kremetart.
  5. Ha Ha, I am always lurking here! We are honoured to have you, not sure about the Oom though - he can bear a grudge. Always good to have a happy wife in a hotel room!
  6. Come on Nic, be a bull, you already have all the cheerleader pics!
  7. It's okay, he's only middle of the pack.
  8. Ah... yes I did. My comments was directed at the "appears to be accidental" part of the post.
  9. Winstrol is not in bioplus. It's pretty hectic prescription medication that can suppress your natural testosterone, cause liver damage and has a host of other side effects. It is not FLU medication or something taken by accident. His doctor would surely have discussed prescribing Winstrol with him. It's also used to cut fat and build muscle but that would be... gasp... doping.
  10. That new scalpel sure looks nice. I'd even ride it on the tar now and then...
  11. Can't wear the kit if you're not on the team. Helmet looks cool though. I'll take the green Evo though...
  12. Tom and Fabian will take the flatter finishes.
  13. Yeah but buying bling is fun!
  14. Think he has the beating of Gilbert in Belgium?
  15. That Leaky Evo is drool and dream worthy. New jerseys are beautiful, bring on the classics.
  16. Anybody who aims a car at you because another cyclist slipped a light is sociopathic and will NEVER be impressed by your good behaviour. You are assuming the danger from cars comes from psycopaths seeking revenge because their busy lives are being infringed upon by a few bikes. Trucks, taxis, drunk drivers are the real danger and they couldn't care less about the HUB or its crusaders for good behaviour. Rather spend your energy getting taxis to drive responsibly, they cause far more damage than Dale or Peta skipping a light.
  17. No worries. Going for my second cup now.
  18. I love SA that's why I live here. Only thing that upsets me is pointless government beaurocracy that would force me to queue up for a bit of plastic for my bike.
  19. The premise that change starts with you. TNT1 has been obeying the law to the letter and it hasn't made a Eiffel of difference. Read the threads, it is white cradle motorists and Cape Townians who are the most indignant about riding abreast or robot jumping. I live in Limpopo which is two percent white and motorists here are much more accepting of cyclists yet the danger from unaware taxis/trucks and drunk drivers remains. These are the biggest killers. Having number plates on my bike will not prevent or even reduce theft and the cyclists riding against traffics, mainly MTB riders, will not put plates on. If they manage to implement an idea like this it will only be an irritant. Laws against drunk drivers have not managed to stop them, a bit of extra plastic on my bike won't either. It won't even make me more visible which would be a far more practical law - high viz colours on the road.
  20. That's a flawed premise. If every single cyclist behaved perfectly it would make an incredibly small difference. One recent death was due to alcohol and one due to a taxi failing to see the bike. Neither were caused by frustrated, entitled, white motorists' anger at cyclists skipping lights. More red tape, more costs, more corruption with no real effect. Worst idea in the history of ideas.
  21. Okay then I am commuting every time I ride.
  22. RIP, hero to my family and I. Your star was no where near its zenith. Condolences to your family.
