  1. Here you agree with me completely... go figure.
  2. You again, sigh. Please read my post Covie, and carefully before replying My Merida was made in Taiwan My Zaskar was made in Taiwan My Raleigh is made in China My Trek 9.9 was made in the USA Nowhere did I have an issue with bikes made in the East. My post is about silverback letting go of their SA roots as if they are ashamed of being a South African company. Please do not antagonise me simply for the sake of it as i do not wish to put you on ignore. Ray
  3. Maybe he saved by getting a cheap phone? Just kidding but seriously dude you are almost as fanatical about this as the V man! I use both, really I do, and with no motives other than honesty I can tell you that phones suck at what a Garmin does. They do. Really. And the only arguments are from people who use their phones and DONT own a dedicated GPS. Like TNT and you. Less than 1 % of Garmin owners would use their phones by choice.
  4. Gave up on silverback when they gave up on the whole South African brand image. Momsen uses SA as a selling point even if their bikes come from the east. Instead Silverback have a collection of meaningless sound bites. What do Germans know about bikes anyway? They have Focus, made in the east and uh, well, silverback now. Proud tradition of cycling excellence.
  5. They are not immune, just sealed and rubber covered (at least my edge 500 is) so pretty dust and water resistant. They are also cheaper to replace than an iPhone - garmin trade in damaged units for a massive discount on a new one. Have you ever held an edge500? It's small, compact and can take a lot of abuse.
  6. You won't be alone. My brother and his mates will be on 26" wheels. No on the baggies though!
  7. I am an iPhone fanboy - love it. It's just nowhere as good as my garmin for cycling.
  8. Your phone cost more than your bike??? Maybe you should get a new one...
  9. So no kremetart or trans baviaans or just about any 70 km marathon then? I wouldn't be able to use it.
  10. You don't sweat enough!
  11. Nah, got my edge 500.
  12. In a sandwich bag no doubt.
  13. You type too fast. Okay but I need my heart rate ( got a heart issue ), speed, distance, ave speed are all usefull all the time. Only thing I don't need is post ride analysis so if the units not on my bars it may as well be at home.
  14. I don't insure my iPhone never broke or lost it. I have a 120 rand Nokia I ride with. How do you mount your phone?
  15. I have an edge 500 and an iPhone with cycling software. Always end up with the garmin and here is why: Garmin is water resistant pretty shock proof and cheaper to replace than my phone. Protective cases and heart rate monitors for iPhone are pretty expensive and more difficult to transfer between bikes as the edge 500 comes with 2 bike mounts and clip on and off easily. Battery life is 13 hours. Edge 500 is much smaller and lighter than my phone.
  16. No worries, see you on the hills.
  17. Are you blind? Is your screen working? Show me ONE comparison either I or Showtime have made between Shimano and SRAM! We are not debating with you. We don't care what you think. We are stating, on a public forum, that OUR XT grouppos work very well in the mud. In one respect you are correct, I have a headache as if I was banging my head gainst a wall and have just remembered that no one in paying me for your enlightenment so Mr. Oracle...
  18. I am an individual with adequate knowledge and I am pointing out to you that, flawed though your various "mates" may find the 2012 XT groupset to be, I find it to work perfectly in all sorts of conditions, mud included. I also find the groupset very easy to set up and tune at home or trailside. There now, you have been informed, once again, by someone with an adequate knowledge of compononenenets or whatever else you want to call them.
  19. Covie: "Always had issues with mud and my shimano, and to tune them properly you need a degree in voodoo, embrace the darkside and sell your kidney to a shammon." Here is where you said they were useless. Along with needing an hour to set trailside. Those are the statements I disagreed with. I never once said anything was better than SRAM. Neither did Showtime. Are you sure you are a better, more knowledgable, cyclist than those who disagree with you? Of course you are sure! Do you read what you post? Or do you dish out words like "noob" just because you feel like it? Noob is a word used by internet warriors.
  20. I have no experience at all with SRAM which is why I never knocked them. Pretty good kit I am told. How did you find Mankele? Awesome riding there. We are racing on Sunday, the Magoebaskloof challenge, why don't you come up and have a go? Guarenteed mud and single track!
  21. I am glad I amuse you, easily done it seems. Was not being bitchy in any way, nor fighting with you, I have no need of either. And if I do it wont be with a handbag. Not sure where you ride but Tzaneen, Sabie, Grasskop and Barberton have some of the very best riding in the country whether you find our location cause for derision or not. Come ride here first, then blah blah blah all you want. If you actually read my posts you will see that I was simply stating that MY XT gruppo works perfectly in mud and was very easy to set up and maintain. You then inferred I had some magical ability or must have been lying. You also claim thet MOST others have happily moved to SRAM. Not sure they have moved to being the premier high end component supplier yet... As I said, you are always very sure of what you type. Good for you.
  22. If ever you are up in Tzaneen or Mpumalanga, give me a shout, we will go find this magic mud together. Bring your bike. I am glad you have the Oracle at your back, he is, after all, a hubber very certain of his opinion. You may love your equipment, and I have nothing against SRAM, but your claims that my gear does not work beggars belief. My kit works fine, rain and sun, time and again, and there is no vodoo, magic or Shamanism about it. Many, many cyclists use Shimano gear without swearing, skinning knuckles or spending an hour next to a trail trying to figure out an outer limit screw. Covie is an expert on XT though the only brakes he has ever used from Shimano are Deore, what kit have you used for any length of time in the mud? I get the self justification needs of a purchase but it doesn't make everybody else wrong.
  23. Enjoy your gruppo.
  24. I must be a wizard ! Seriously? 1 hour? Just because you can't doesn't mean it can't be done or is hard. I could teach you how to tune an XT rig in minutes. Never have to do much to mine though. 70 Km forest2falls on Saturday and not a twitch from my XT 2 X10. Only time XT acts up is if your cassette is worn, then nothing helps but a new one.
