  1. Aren't you just a ray of sunshine? In all seriousness, we race road mainly on closed races: 94.7, Kremetart, Argus and the quieter ones like Vula Vula. Training? That's what TacX and MTB are for! and +1 on the Merida bikes, they are fantastic bikes at any price and are very good value too. I have a Merida full suss and love it.
  2. CAAD 10 Ultegra is an awesome bike for 20 k. Just put a decent set of wheels on and it will fly the JHB hills.
  3. The kysirium elites are way better than aksiums, it makes the Scott a much better buy. Cr1 is a great machine. Welcome to the dark side & see you at the 94.7!
  4. Common sense won't work on this thread, sorry.
  5. True but that would be pointless, checking time checks and calculating threats to yellow? More likely they will use Froome's times as reference to speed Wiggins up.
  6. How will they slow him down if Brad starts after him? They haven't got a crystal ball. They have to let him go as hard as possible in case Wiggins crashes out, would be counter productive and stupid to slow him. If he loses today its because he is slower.
  7. Should have printed that on the back of Froome's jersey.
  8. Just for Greipel, that German has NO sense of humour.
  9. Yeah, that, and fast.
  10. If you have to ask you are MTB. Us roadies know exactly what wheel size to use and how to define our sport.
  11. There just, just too much Tarmac!
  12. If they don't like his antics they shouldn't let him win.
  13. Which ever one Peter Sagan Mercx uses. He is the new Armstrong or Forrest Gump or something...
  14. Me too, great ride.
  15. Hey, go back to the TdF thread where you belong
  16. Here is my setup for 5 hour plus marathon or stage race riding: Saddle bag with multitool, chainbreaker, powerlinks, tyre levers, cash, CO2 bombs, tubeless repair grommets. If this is pre packed it's one less thing to worry about on the morning of an early start. Just strap it on and go. If you ride longer, more technical rides you WILL eventually need to fix a chain, gear cable, sidewall cut and not having what you need can ruin an expensive stage race or ride. Keeping the weight on the bike also saves you having to lift it up and down when standing on your MTB over technical sections. The spare tube I tape on only for rocky rides where I think sidewall cuts are a possibilty. My seat tube is marked but its alu so who cares? If others laugh at your saddlebag tell them to quit sucking your wheel. Use and do what works for you let the rest eat your dust.
  17. Very cool, almost as good as "pedal, damn it!"
  18. Look forward to being pushed by you.
  19. Bike porn!
  20. The wheels turn anti clockwise here. I agree on the hydraulic discs, deal breaker not to have them. Silverback used to be a south African brand, good value bikes.
  21. You are assuming that the larger wheel size is making more of a difference to your riding than anything else but at your budget your 29 is probably pretty heavy compared to a 26er of the same price. Weight of bike, as well as quality of shock plays a far bigger role in the bikes ability than the percieved gain of the larger wheels. Cheaper 29" wheels, which you have, flex more and are much heavier. That rockshock is so much better than your suntour it is in a completely different league. The only time you will get clear advantage from 29" wheels is when budget is NOT an issue and you can buy a bike that weighs the same and has equal shock, wheels to the 26" version. I agree with you on the grouppo, not such a big deal but shocks, wheels and weight are definitely a deal maker/breaker on any bike.
  22. Pomp, don't pomp, same same but different.
  23. Stop, don't stop, whatever, just don't whine about it afterwards.
