  1. before i get my rant on - my sincere condolences to the family of the fallen cyclist. I hope and pray that they can make peace with what has happened. Maybe, just maybe something good can come of this and he will forever be remembered as the catalyst for change. is it just me or is it time to get off this thread and onto the streets? where are the GA bus depots and terminals? what about blockages and disruptions to their operations? i don't say much on the hub, often it's just people yacking and talking the talk. maybe it's time for action! GA, the city, government are not going to change without proper motivation. This thread is full of examples of trying to communicate, trying to follow the correct channels. the definition of stupidity is doing the same thing over and over again while expecting a different result - time for a different approach. Kieno cummings - Cape 567 - disgusted me today. i enjoy the station and the value it brings but i could not understand the cr*p i had to listen to. it showed the true selfish nature that seems to control the majority of people out there. We as the populace of this country have lost our way, have lost our sense of belonging in the head long rush towards our personal coronation as king **** of turd island. I have given up counting the number of people of walks of life who now believe a red traffic light means "quickly 3 more cars must go through" . Today I stood at a pedestrian crossing with a pram and had to wait 19 cars before someone stopped, obeying the yield for pedestrian sign, and then got aggressive revving to hurry me across. We all sit here and talk to ourselves - the preacher to the choir. Outside, in the real world, nobody gives a damn. without some form of coordinated joint and sustained protest or effort, nothing will change. I don't have the answers, i am just angry, frustrated and sad. I suppose i feel like many do, powerless and fragile. I love my bike, i love everything about cycling - how is we have gotten to the point the point where if i get killed while cycling, it will in all likelihood be rationally explained away as if i shouldn't have been on the road in the first place?
  2. for me - the best value to performance set of wheels, training and or racing are the American Classic CR420.

    Argus crashes

Things were better from Smits, then 4 crashes from Bakoven to the finish, It was just so stupid. I got into that last km, pulled over and cruised in 20secs off the front, and missed the last crash 200m from the finish.

  20. Hi CF I was fortunate to ride Sani and Epic last year on the Zula. This year I am riding the Anthem X 29er. I missed the Zula everyday on Sani this year. I can describe it this way, the Zula is a guided missile, point and it follows. The Anthem X is a cluster bomb, when you just want to ride over everything. For the rocky western cape I love the Giant. For a majority of GP riding as you describe I would have to say the Zula will be more than you will ever need and give you endless enjoyment. my 2 cents
  21. Hi The first question to ask is, what other triathlon (distance) events have you completed? The next would be what are your goals, or what do you hope to achieve from the event? How much are you training and how much can you put in before January? There are more factors and considerations at play here than just do it or not - and despite the gung ho comments above you are wise to ask the question as a half iron man puts your body through stresses and strains that if done too young or without the proper conditioning can cause problems. there are several channels to help prepare yourself correctly and I would be happy to point you in the right direction.
  22. Dr Tim Noakes says that cramps are nothing other than your muscles reacting to having worked harder than you have trained them. Is it possible that you cramp because you have not trained enough for the longer distances? I ask because I only cramp at the start of the season when generally I race harder and longer than my training has prepared me for. As the season progresses I get stronger and the cramps disappear. my 2cents worth
  23. I thought the route was great, really enjoyed it. Great mix of terrain and lots to make one smile after the climbing. Wasn't aware we started early, if so, not acceptable, 7:30am is 7:30am My real gripe comes with a safety issue. The 27km joined the 55km at the bottom of a super fast decent with 27km riders coming out from behind the vines straight into the path of the 55km riders. It is a dangerous oversight and one I hope gets corrected for next year. I will definitely be back next year, R180, steep, yes, but you get to ride on a farm you'd never get to and experience that view back towards Gordons Bay after the last climb. For me, that's worth it.
  24. Hi Also just changed to the Anthem X 29er - awesome. I understand that the BB is lower to help with center of gravity - I also feel that I am lower to the ground, have clipped the crank once or twice in turns. Flat bar - 680mm, far too wide so I took 2cm off both sides. Bottle would get destroyed I think - get a seat post mount and decent rear cage. Enjoy the bike
  25. Hi I have just changed to 29er - rode Epic last year 26" with Conti Race King Mountain King combo. Riding the Maxxis Crossmark UST on 29er now - I am not convinced. they feel like they would be great on even hard pack terrain- I don't have confidence in them on loose gravel/sand/rocky (which is Western Cape) especially in the corners (this may just be that I'm getting used to the bigger wheel) As soon as conti brings UST to the 29er I will change. good luck and enjoy the Epic.
