I have one and (admittedly I don't ride it very much as I'm doing a lot of gravel riding these days) it's a great bike. Not ideal for throwing yourself down enduro runs or anything steep but excellent at standard MTB rides/races or long slogs on gravel roads.

Only good thing about this crash is that it happened near the top. Speeds would be roughly half of what they'd be doing near the bottom. When I watched the vid I thought a few guys were looking to the left which caused the distraction and ultimately the pileup. Similar to when people in cars see an accident and then cause a secondary one.

Dropping down the groups is allowed in all the races but you cant move up a group. So E must drop down to G

Us fatties hope that Vissers will never return 😂 and that goes for 99er and Tour de PPA

No penalty for One Tonner here either. The DC seeding is a bit of a joke as they're comparing my mixed team time with a mens team time. But that's a topic for another day

I want to see if the short version counts towards the total number of Cycle Tours completed. Only reason it's of interest to me is because if you do the Elite Ladies race then it doesn't count. 😖 In essence you could win the Cycle Tour but then if you check your stats you haven't completed one 😂

The short route is going to be the perfect way for me to introduce my kids to the Cycle Tour. It's probably a bit late for me to get them riding now for the 2023 race so will look at them doing this in 2024. Best thing is that I can race the 109km and be back in time to ride the 40km option with them.

The other option is to do this in the middle of the night when there are far less vehicles and cyclists on the road and the truck can then use both of the car lanes. Like Duane I was also almost killed in Kalk Bay a couple weeks ago when an interlink truck overtook me on a corner and the rear of 2nd trailer almost clipped me. If I hadn't braked and gone into the gutter I wouldn't be writing this. When I then catch the truck and question the driver his reasoning is that he had to do it because there was oncoming traffic. The thought of him waiting didn't even cross his mind. It blows my mind that these are meant to be professional drivers!

I find myself watching the dots on the tracker again 😂 So cool to be able to follow events like this in close to real time. Hopefully one day thy can get the trackers to all update at the same time coz it's a bit confusing early on when there's various time delays.

I've always said that we are our own worst enemies. So long as we keep buying then the bike industry will keep pushing the prices. It's out of control at the moment and I don't know how I'm meant to buy proper bikes for my kids when they want to start racing one day.

No queues or issues, everything flows well and seems to be well organised. Expo is same-old same-old with people panic buying tjubes, tyres and nutrition 😂

Out of interest, can you get these kits for Shimano 11 Speed Road Cassettes as well? I don't need anything now but when my cassette wears out it's always those 2 cogs that are the problem.

I've done the 60km and it wasn't technical at all. I'm pretty much a roadie and was able to do it without hopping off. There is a fair amount of singletrack which made overtaking tricky and sometimes impossible, It was however a tough race. So tough I had to stop for a beer at the last waterpoint 😅

This should still be OK. It will slow down and you wont really be able to go around all the riders easily. Try stick to the right and you should find a gap here and there if people are being considerate. Generally by here the groups are less pronounced and there's more of a constant stream of riders. By offering this advise I, in no way, shape or form, admit to having started in group 2C or below. This includes the "Open" groups from long long ago. Enjoy the ride!

You can ask to be reseeded at registration based on this race result. They will tell you what group you'd be changed to. If you want to go ahead you'll pay them a fee and they'll give you a new race number. I cant remember the fee but it was something like R 200 2 years ago.
