  1. For the most part I found that everybody behaved themselves back in the alphabet soup. Some of the roads are pretty narrow and once we merged with the short route there was absolutely no hope of staying purely in the left lane.
  2. Here's my little clip of the day. I started in E group which was mostly calm until the Pure Savage gents from G group came rolling through between Fisantekraal and the R44. A few minutes of huffing and puffing as they laid down the hammer before they dropped the bulk of us. I'm guessing that a few people from our group managed to stick with them. The rest of the ride I just stayed up near the front of the group and finished 17/76 which I'm super stoked with
  3. Does everyone who collected their race number enjoy their new identity? Bit of a POPI whoopsie ????
  4. I don't think those seeding indexes are final as its the mechanism from last year which has just continued to work off the automated systems in place. They're still going to jimmy rig the whole thing with the bonus seeding for some riders and will likely waive/reduce the penalties on some of the other older rides depending on their official seeding classification.
  5. If they stopped the elite group a 3rd time it would have improved my future seeding. I must bribe that Mazda dude a bit more next time
  6. Here's a KML file that you can open in Google Earth. It has the 90km route in it and that'll give you some decent elevation info etc. Cycling Routes.kml
  7. He tried the same story with me and even tried to convince me how the payment platform is all safe n sound. When you say you'll only accept EFT or cash then he goes away.
  8. Are those full finger gloves I see?!
  9. Got a little video going from yesterdays event. and for those who are considering next year you can check it out on Strava: https://www.strava.com/activities/996815808
  10. Amarider 50 Miler I think I'll take a week to recover!
  11. Ok cool, thanks
  12. Does anybody know who's timing this race and where we can lookup our seeding? I don't particularly want to find this out 10 mins before we start when we collect our numbers.
  13. I'm doing the 45km one. Had a look at the 60km route and decided it would be a lot of suffering so I opted for a fun day instead. Don't know the trails at all so just went by the route profiles and elevation data.
  14. Shew, I've been purposely avoiding this tread for many weeks now but visited again tonight. This video and the the way everybody has responded in support of our fallen comrade, his family or the doggies has literally put a lump in my throat and a tear streaming down my cheek (probably for the third time already). All I can say now is thank you to everybody who's helped in any way, shape or form. May Barry ride in peace.
  15. If you look at something like this then it's not particularly heavy (230g) and looks somewhat rugged. http://www.sustainable.co.za/world-panel-sunstream-plus-solar-charger.html You'd need to decide if you're going to charge your phone directly if if you'd want to charge a little powerbank and then use that to top-up your other devices. Powerbanks can add a lot of weight as the capacity increases so if you are thinking of this then you shouldn't need anything bigger than the capacity of your phone's battery as that'll pretty much get you a single charge. I'm assuming here, as I'm no expert by any means, that the biggest consideration is going to be if the solar panel is going to get enough of the suns rays to be able to operate effectively. This will be down to your mounting position along with course direction and time of day etc.
  16. See you there Hope it'll be well attended coz i think we're only up to 24 entries now!
  17. So what are the odds that City of Cape Town will arrange the same road closures for us on one of the upcoming Sundays? No support, no refreshment stations, no timing, no organising and no responsibility apart from the road closures. That way we can all have a lekker cruise around the route and the event still takes place but in a slightly different form.
  18. Anybody notice how they neglected to add the Loading Times to the Start Groups in the magazine? It might cause some chaos but if memory serves me correctly then you start loading 40 mins before your Start Time.
  19. 38mm front and 50mm rear. Just enough to make me sweat some of the gusty downhill secions
  20. We may be short on water but at this point in time we have electricity. Floodlights, we need floodlights all along the route and then the ladies can start at 4am
  21. Nothing like a long range forecast to get your hopes up or smash your dreams. I'm sure this will change plenty in the next 2 weeks
  22. I drove through there twice this morning and was trying to figure out if they'll have it resurfaced before the big day or not. I suspect that they are incredibly close to pulling it off but will most likely miss it by a week or two. So we'll just have to put our gum-guards in and head into battle. Maybe just think of it as the Kalk Bay Roubaix. Will take a GoPro clip this weekend and post it for anybody who's travelling to the event.
  23. If you started in P group then you might be in this long ass vid. Be sure to use it for bragging rights when you show your buddies your fine form or how you laid down some smack. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aq3SQtXsxM PS: Thanks everybody for the wheelsucking. It helped me greatly
  24. Took a ride down to Simons Town again this morning. Pretty happy I wasn't on the roads earlier as these three trucks are carrying two taxis which are rather mangled. The accident was just before you come into Simons Town and the road is covered in glass. At least to view from Jubilee Square was epic
  25. Jeep track at the top of Constantia Nek this morning.
