  1. Dangle you normally pick up those details?
  2. Hey, did you guys see Fontana go outside the pink markers when he hit Kulhavey wheel and went off track, technically he should be disqualified. Hermida should have bronze!
  3. So who here has gone to the Olympics, gotta love the peanut gallery flipping through channels and passing comment...go ride your bikes and let Oscar live his dream.
  4. 10 years old a Peugeot racing bike followed by a Hanson and a purple diamond back(big in Benoni at the time). My dad and I did all the fun rides until I gave up riding to play rugby...but I am back after 15 years!
  5. Those start tags are rubbish, what on earth is wrong with race tec? I hate admin and those silly watch tags are well, admin.
  6. What's the thing on the back? Your R15k nutrition????
  7. Is he a Dutchman? Just goes to show ox wagons and biltong have made us hard!
  8. I had the issue pre Epic and it was a number of changes that helped heal it. I started off with 6 weeks rest but the pain kept coming back! Solution 1. Bike set up particularly seat height. 2. Changed pedal stroke from pushing heavy gears to lighter ones with better technique. 3. Did cross training to strengthen other muscle i.e. gluts, hammies. 4 don't rush in easy miles low intensity and build back. And I spend thousands of rands on scans/surgery ( they never operated), physio, Lyno (ouch) and physio's. But from not been able to ride 5 km without pain 8 months later the Epic was done and dusted without issues.
  9. I hope Froom takes the time trial! And they let him try take Giro next year....now there is a classic event to watch.
  10. They musy make it all harder, including Epic. Tired of my sport been taken over by the golfing crew! The guys at Sani must ride faster.... Freedom Challenge here I come.
  11. Brilliant race, my garmin had only 1615m of climbing and 54km, but Mtbers always love spicing the KM and climbing.... Will be back next year but would like the event to remain small. 200 entrants this year in the 60km. I was very cocky coming off Epic, that ended shortly after the first steep climbs. Simonsberg was spectacular close up. Results?
  12. There is a fax number at the top of one of the letters where it says Istanbul cafe and then in the body of the letter they give another number. I called the SA number some afrikaans woman picked up and was very cagey? I have asked those people to try track the fax numbers too?
  13. Thank you, lets see what they come up with. Anyone heard of Istanbul cafe? Thats where they faxed the documents from?
  14. So yesterday the administrator of a US mutual fund I invest in told me an individual has tried to withdraw my entire investment. He had my residential address, account numbers and some fake US consulate, attorney and bank stamps to clean my cash out. Looks very sofisticated and they have tried 3 times in the last month! They made up an e-mail address (using my name) and have SA cell numbers, the cash was going to a Thai bank account. Which raised a red flag to the admiistrator. They could have got all the info from statements sent by post. Any one know how to trace cell phone numbers? Good private investigators? The SAPS don't really care unless its murder, rape or burgularly. I would like to find out who is doing this, as if they piece more information together I could be in real trouble...... Any suggestions?
  15. I rode with a few off the Exxaro riders, obviuosly their ettiquette and skills in the bunch were not great but that is to be expected. There are many experienced riders that do the same things which is irritating. I just tried to explain some of the 'rules' of riding and thats all they needed was a helping hand. I also chatted to a few of the riders and they were having the experience of a lifetime and full of smiles, good for them. the only negative thing I witnessed was one of the riders throwing his emty water bottle into the fynbos, not cool. Otherwise I am all for seeing more participation by underprivilaged riders in our sport.
  16. I would say between 6-7km. 3 climbs on stage 1 1 climb stage 3 1 climb Stage 4 (Charlies Hell) And a few bits here and there. I recon you would ride more if everyone was not pushing in front of you.
  17. The pain is just too fresh....
  18. At this point after the Epic I may take some time to go through that inventory.......numb today! Keeping them as spares, sorry.
  19. Maybe it was the Swiss assos jerseys that gave me strength on the hills!
  20. Dont worry I have a box of them at home! was expecting at least two tyre chnages for epic but the original ones are still 100%.
  21. unforgettable in everyway!
  22. I recon the Schwalbe snake skins must be the most used tyres on this years Epic. I was expecting more puntures and side wall cuts but it seems tyre durability has changed substantially! Just not for 360life
  23. Schwalbe Racing Rhalph snake skins. We ran them for the Epic this year and not one problem, awsome tyres.
  24. I survived the Cape Epic! The first couple of days were difficult coming off the cold and we positioned 240th, as i felt better the team started moving up the rankings and did a 101st yesterday. 154th Overall, happy its done and happy to be alive................yeah
  25. I was wondering if those crazy men that have done numerous Epics can put 2012 into perspective? It was my first and i will not be up tonight for the early bird entries! Quotes of the Epic for me: Asking a guy who had done 3 Epics which stage was the most difficult during Stage 3's 145km slog. Answer ' always the last stage' that was too true considering the carnage in stage 4 and 5.... The race director explaining Stage 3 in a German accent " the first 40 km will be on tar and district roads and are FREE miles", ja right but what about the 100km with 4 massive climbs that were not 'FREE'! All in all a good event with too much hike a bike, the weather was unplayable and you had to toil for the 2012 medal. See you in 2014!
