  1. Ultegra R8000 groupset. Road bikes Multiple chains. 6000-8000km per chain using squirt and smoove as lube. Current chain 8000km on immersive wax and it's till going quite nicely. Cassettes R7000 and R8000's consistantly do 3 chains per cassette. So around 18000km per cassette. My current immersion wax cassette is still with its it's original chain as above. Chainrings R8000 rings on the squirt / smoove bike are still going at 50000kms. The immersive wax bike still new on 8000km old rings. On my MTB with XT M780. I was also doing about 3 chains per cassette. And I did 3 cassets per set of chainrings. My current MTB which runs XT M8100 2x12 is still original rings and cassette at 4000km, but it's due a new chain.
  2. This is the first time I am servicing my fork. Before it had been done by a shop.
  3. Hey guys. Just need some quick input. I am busy servicing my Manitou Markhor by myself. I have changed travel from 100 to 120. Before the service I had an issue that my fork was not using all it's travel. It was getting about 60mm before "bottoming out" but there was still lots of stanchion remaining. Sag all set correctly. I read that too much oil in the damper leg can cause that and so putting a bit less than what Manitou recommends is beneficial. In the case of 120mm I've read that the fluid should be around 100mm from the top of the crown/stanchion vs 97mm as recommended by Manitou. Anyone else experienced this? I'm using motul Fork Oil Expert 5wt as damper fluid. And this also leads me to my next question. Is should we be following the service guidelines as gospel. Because they recommend using 15ml per leg of 5w-40 semi-bath oil. That seems quite low. When I cracked the fork open and drained it, barely anything came out. I want to make sure this fork is well lubricated and functioning as good as it can. Can I add more semi-bath fluid to the lower assembly? Maybe 20-25ml per leg? Would there be any disadvantage to that? I'm using Motul 7100 5w-40 fully synthetic as the Semi-bath oil.
  4. I can't imagine every going back to a chest strap after getting My scosche rhythm 2.0. No wet chest straps in winter. = heaven
  5. Quite a few pros have been seen wearing armbands. Including the likes of the Polar Verity Sense. And if you check out reviews on the verity sense and Scosche Rhythm by DC rainmaker you will see that they are just as accurate. We don't need clinical levels of precision and accuracy for a sports. So it doesn't really matter if the reading is off by a % or so. Unlike in a clinical setting it isn't going to be the difference between life or death.
  6. Chest strap still. No optical technology. They should be updating the Tickr Fit. Guys the 1980s called they want their chest strap back.
  7. Oh yes yes because obviously it was careless. Nice. One. It's like. I just left. My bike on the lawn with a sign "please steal me" . 🙄 No I definitely didn't take any precautions to try lock my bikes away whatsoever.
  8. He disagrees with the conclusion that PT has formed based on what PT has seen of the Derailleur thus far. And because he disagrees with PT's assessment then the only logical conclusion is that PT is talking k@k
  9. So much SRAM coolaid drinking going on in here.
  10. If one had to choose between taking after a long slow day or a short intense day. After which type of exercise would it be most beneficial to take a protein supplement?
  11. Hi guys. So just a quick one. I like to use Nutritech Premium Whey as a recovery supplement in my recovery regimen. I normally have it after my big long rides and don't usually bother with it after a short HIIT session. But I was wondering. When is the BEST time to use it? *should I use it after a big long slow ride. Like a 3 hour plus. *should I use it after a short ~1 hour HIIT session. I've also seen some online articles saying you should have protein before your ride. So I was just hoping for some input.
  12. This is just a rebranded Winspace Hyper. Look for 1st party winspace Hypers as it may or may not be cheaper. But either way its a good frameset and very popular.
  13. So I was with Cyclesure since 2016. But unfortunately they recently kicked me off as an undesirable. Unfortunately I hit a stroke of bad luck between 2019 and 2021. I lost 4 bikes and a wheelset totalling near enough 160K. 3 bikes and wheels to theft from the house and the last bike was getting hit by a car. We live in a very high risk area in Cresta close to Windsor and our landlord was VERY lax on security. So even though we did the best we could to lock up our garage and keep the bikes safe ultimately the perps were still gaining easy access to the complex grounds because of the lax security. So ultimately we bought our own place and moved to a safer complex and area. But I guess in their eyes it was too late as Cyclesure paid out the last claim and kicked me to the kurb. I'm now with naked. But after reading this thread I want to go through my Ts&Cs to make sure I am getting good cover. Anyone know what to look out for?
  14. Sorry this is off topic but do we need to have licenses and all that stuff to ride Rooiwal?
  15. To everyone that is saying "this guy must be scared/k@king his pants" or any variation of the above. I highly doubt he is scared or even cares. This much is already clear.
  16. I had a similar situation on Saturday when riding the cradle. I was on my MTB and had just gone through the lion circle heading towards the caves. I had to pass a group of cyclists that were being followed by a vehicle. A white panel van. Can't recall if it had any markings in it. But the group it was following was across the entire road to the point that I had to overtake in the oncoming lane. When I commented that they don't need to be across the entire road, a slew of insults and bad language was hurled in my general direction. I rode on thinking nothing if it. This attitude is becoming far more common in recent weeks. I look forward to seeing justice being done.
  17. You can see he went away with a gel or a bar, shoving it into his jersey. And it wasn't more than a second or two. So no nothing illegal.
  18. That is our rider Jayde Julius. He is not in ICU. He has some bruises and some road rash but other than thay he is intact. He finished the race although he was our hopeful for a win.
  19. it would be nice. I mean I know local distributors need to survive. But it's a bit hard to support local when something as basic as Ultegra hoods which are arguably a consumable because they are a grip/contact point and they wear out, aren't even available and my LBS has to special order them. I heard from a few shop owners that online shops that CRC and other popular online stores were selling their stuff at prices even cheaper than what LBSs were getting them from the distributor for. So obviously LBSs couldn't compete. But instead of just making it fair for LBSs by making prices more reasonable they just blocked online sales. It all sounds very anti competitive and just unfair on the consumer as we no longer have a choice on where we want to purchase from. And it's not just Shimano but looks to be SRAM group too as all the online stores I normally by from also have a note on checkout on rockshox that reads "due to legal restrictions cannot ship to your contry" or something along those lines. While I love cycling as a sport I am really getting sour when it comes to being a consumer in the cycling industry. On another topic. Anyone know where one can purchase a giant XTC advanced framset? Or if the Advanced 3 is coming into South Africa? (not the SL)
  20. no 2X stuff for SLX 7100/ XT 8100 or XTR9100. No R8000 hoods.
  21. looks to be my best bet. Thanks
  22. I see I can't get rockshox either. Flipping hell it looks like it's impossible to build a bike these days.
  23. Ever since Shimano clamped down on the online stores selling their stuff its obviously become increasingly difficult to find Shimano stuff. And unfortunately south African stores seem intent on selling Shimano stuff for insane prices. So with that in mind where can we buy Shimano stuff these days. Going through eBay / alieexpress doesn't seem viable as most of the sellers don't have everything you want. So you would have to go through multiple sellers which means shipping starts to add up very quickly. So what does one do?
  24. My experience with Bike Addict is also very bad. During may/june of last year I wanted to buy a new bike for my wife after the last one had been stolen. I was going to purchase a BIG.NINE 500 for her at the price of 10500 or 10900 at the time on bike addict. I emailed them a few times back and forth with regards to availability and frame sizes and once I was happy I asked them to send one my way. Once I recieved the quote from them I was surprised to see the price had jumped to 12500. This is after we had discussed in length about my budget being in the 10K region. Apparently the price wasn't a mistake. Thanks to a little computer know how and a bit of Google fu I looked up the webpage for the bike on bike addict site using Google cache and they changed the price the night before they sent me the quote. After a strongly worded email to them they agreed to sell me the bike for the original price. When I then expressed my interest to buy it they then suddenly had a stock issue. I've still got all the proof in my emails. Anyways don't bother with Bike Addict is all I can say.
