  1. What do you consider as wide? If you are a mountain biker, then your mtb wil remain the trail bike and the gravel setup will be the road and gravel road machine. (This is similar to my current setup) i.e. not real rough stuff where you would have taken your mtb. ( this is the opposite to a roadie coming from road where the gravel will do double duty as an mtb). For this 50mm stated clearance is probably more than fine for what you need. You can do 2.1 maby 2.2 in dry non muddy conditions if need be. With that you have plenty options. Titan scout, Giant revolt are good value. I imported a chinese frame (tideace gv201 / tantan gr201) and built a highish spec bike for 40k odd. All new bikes will have that, second-hand just keep an eye. Very much horses for courses on what you want to ride on.
  2. * Full Sus mountain bikes
  3. Oef conflicting suggestions. Care to elaborate Guido? You have had some experience with a few forks on gravel bikes so would appreciate your opinion
  4. As you surely know, your predictions were spot on.
  5. Probing the thoughts / experiences of the hub. I have the option of running: a) Lauf SL fork (30 mm travel) with a max tyre clearance of 45mm. OR b) 2.1 / 2.2 MTB front tyre with a rigid fork. This is for a gravel stage event - so 85% - 90% gravel. Would appreciate some thoughts on this.
  6. So in terms of what can be easily sourced in SA, my feeling is a 50mm Tracer up front with a 45 Pathfiner or 50 Tracer at the back is a good combo. I currently have the 45Tracer front /42 pathfinder (old version) back which have given me no puncture issues or slipping/sliding issues. I don't ride in mud but the pathfinder can be slippy to put power down up a muddy / wet rocky hill. I did for the heck of it take it down some singletrack in Jonkers and was perfect (in terms of taking a gravel bike down places it should not be) Really want some 50mm Schwalbe's though.
  7. Is this the same as with your previous setup where you got more milage? With a bigger chairing you'll sit higher up the cassette more often with the larger cogs spreading the load over more teeth than the smaller ones. Less effective load, less wear.
  8. If you ain't first you are last. I kid, and I'm being facetious, I should have stated the race for first in the GC competition. GC race down the order is much more interesting. Just riding in the tour is an immense achievement which few can truly grasp. Green Jersey this year is a bit moot after Jasper's fall and with yesterday's 'truce' until the sprint puts the point of it comes into question in grand tours with modern super cyclist and push to make it 'safer'.
  9. Can we call time of death for the GC competition then?
  10. I was wondering about this the other day. I ride mine solely in erg mode so i leave it in a middle-ish gear to keep the chain line straight. Had it on a larger gear for a while but think the unit will have to produce more resistance so will put more strain on the system. Looking at the size of the zwift cog, there seems to be some logic in running in a smaller gear. But with a normal cassette, that skews the chaon line a bit.
  11. Did everyone misread that he is doing Gravelburn in October?
  12. Reviving a tread here. This section of track on the Northern part of the Theewaterskloof dam seems to run on private land. Seems like you also need to jump a gate where it meets the base of FH pass. Does anyone know if one can ride this freely or with a trail pass, or is it a race only route requiring special permission?
  13. Don't get one. I accidentally got one with bike i bought. Now I am obsessed to the point where I bought a pair of power meter pedals so I can track gravel/road rides and mtb rides with the same meter so there is no variance. But in all honesty, If you want to do proper structured training, it is a must have. If you like stats and raising you ftp will motivate you, go for it. Of you don't care for stats and the for fun, don't get it, keep it fun.
  14. Hi Hubbers Looking for advice on insurance cover for an event should I fall ill and cannot participate. Does anyone know of a standalone product? My bike is under my household insurance but there is no event cancellation cover (also no cover during a race) I checked in with Cyclesure (above) and it is covered if I cover my bike with them. Are there any other options or advice and does anyone have experience with Cyclesure?
  15. I will let you know. Based in Stb but go to Cpt regularly.
  16. Looks like Blevins and Vidaurre ran tracers back and front for a short track 1-2 yesterday.
  17. This paints the picture
  18. CBR have said they are not keen on fiddling with a steerer, which is understandable I guess. Thanks for the feedback! Plenty of seemingly happy people mounting that Velobike one to mtbs and the like. The extended plug with half of the stem on the original steerer makes me feel okay-ish with the concept.
  19. Integrated headset strikes again. Making a test fit slightly more annoying than it needs to be, so i have just been measuring at the moment. From the measurements, it will be very close to this situation:
  20. Thanks. It it the grit sl (gravel) version, so fit for purpose and the geometry seems to work. But good point i can test fit it short and see.
  21. The issue is not comfort, its getting enough steerer through the frame. I am trying to fit a mate's Lauf fork to my gravel bike. With my integrated cable headset cap having a 20mm odd stack, there is only about 20mm above that to fix the stem to. With the stem stack at 40mm odd the short extension could work. I like the Velobike one as they extended the 'bung' which provides stiffness and continuity through the extender interface.
  22. This was my thoughts exactly. Just sanity checking myself with some hub knowledge.
  23. Looking for some advice and options on extending a carbon steerer tube for a gravel fork. I need say 25mm odd only. Couple of questions: 1) Are extenders like these safe (https://www.velobike.co.nz/products/steerer-tube-extender)? 2) Is a carbon repair route feasible? 3) Are there any other options?
  24. In an interesting turn of events Koretzsky ran a Tracer for this weekend XCC. https://www.pinkbike.com/news/tech-randoms-nove-mesto-xc-world-cup-2025.html
