  1. WTF, are you the cycling mayor of CT?!
  2. Out of interest, how long is the cycle lane? km?
  3. Ah, I see. Separate, remote cycle lanes. Jeezo, the WC is ahead of the game....
  4. Now that your rant is over, hopefully? I don't know the area, so perhaps could you highlight specifics? All I see, is an oke on a bike in the emergency lane, but that's probably not what you're driving at (as it were)?
  5. As your previous 'best' is longer than what you intend to try in the future, haven't you answered your own question? PS hope it's a cheap bike..... PPS or buy a Brompton and take it on the train (assuming you're allowed to in a bag?).
  6. Of course the other aspect, is what reduction in risk is afforded by attaching a light vs without? The usual difficult to define argument (and I'm not suggesting we open the door on a debate of helmet vs no-helmet....!). If I could attach a light to my helmet in a way that I could easily remove for charging etc, I would do so.
  7. Suppose it depends how the light is attached? Small bungee straps - probably ok. Clamped to part of the helmet with bolts etc, probably less ok.
  8. Maybe your reflective kit is more attractive than you think?
  9. I wasn't soliciting opinion on the sole form of enhanced visibility, but rather a method of additional visibility. So reflective, flashing helmet plus the seat-tube light method advocated by others plus rear facing flashing red etc etc...
  10. My thinking is on the forward pedal stroke, your feet/ankles/shoes will be illuminated from the side and behind. If you have reflective anklets, patches on your shoes etc, that they'll reflect to the side and backwards? Small light mounted near the bottom of the seat tube, facing forwards?
  11. Has anyone tried the idea mentioned recently of a steady white light facing forward on the seat tube, to pick up reflectives on the legs/shoes yet? I haven't tried it yet, but can only think that's its a winner if you have reflectives in that area. Why wait for car headlights to pick you out - provide your own!
  12. Nice selfie.....
  13. Pretty much sums it up. I used them a few years ago to 'help' train some mates who were off to climb mountains and we progressed from walking slowly up them (hard enough on the legs), through speed walking up them, to jogging/shuffling up them, and then with rucksacks. Ah, to have a knee again, that could take that kind of hammer!
  14. It was nice of him to still care.....
  15. A mate of mine described your exact approach as 'situational awareness'. He's a pilot, as well as a cyclist, so I think that's drilled into them. He's certainly made me read-the-situation far more than I used to.
  16. What's the motorbike mnemonic? ATGATT? All-the-gear-all-the-time! Lights and some thought on vis clothing should be as much second nature as putting your helmet on....
  17. Might this be a case of charity-event-itis? Avis being "a bit naughty" for sure. But if Mr Bellairs didn't know previously that one of his 'partners' (presumably?) was not being clear in their representations, he is now. Or is it 'all in the name of charity', so that's fine then....
  18. Agreed. I should have said a second front light mounted lower down. Partially to avoid cluttering the bars, but also to look a bit different to car-drivers. I foresee some cable-tie trials are due.....
  19. I was thinking the other day of mounting a front light on my unused disc caliper mounts. Kind of like the old-school fork stanchion boss mount. Maybe some reflective tape on the rim would be illuminated nicely. Hopefully not dazzling the rider?
  20. Karma didn't work for me. I bought myself and a mate one; his as a gift from me. His is going strong after 2 years. Mine died a rapid death. Come on universe.......
  21. Good luck. But if you're gatvol, then may I suggest proctology?
  22. GP or specialist? If former, perhaps, time for the latter?
  23. Ta muchly. I also have a Knog, just cursed with a broken strap! Anyway a cheapy will do the job.
  24. I've had these for years (hence the replaced Velcro). A pair of these on your ankles and an additional pair on wrists, covers most eventualities. BUT here in SA, apart from in winter where leg/arm warmers assist, I find the plastic hard to take on bare skin.... I've never knowingly seen them in SA. Anyone? They must be super cheap?
