  1. SS6 at 14:30 i think according to website and active screen however tv guide has something else on that time. Go figure......
  2. Ok. That's the weather sorted....now what about the goodie bag?
  3. Me too. Our group did the route on Sunday as a training ride so that's Emperors done as far as I am concerned. I ask myself what I am receiving for entry fee and since I don't use water points, don't want another medal, don't want a goodie bad, can source my own Powerade/Coca cola afterwards and I don't care about pre-printed numbers, I really cannot justify the cost. If you have road closures then we can talk otherwise not interested in paying to ride on a road I can ride for free any other day.
  4. Going to get a lift to the venue but keen on riding back. If anyone is going out that way PM so we can keep in touch.
  5. Anyone staying in the Century City area and riding back there after the race. Looking for peeps to ride with through the sketchy area from Town through Woodstock. From Epping onwards should be safe.
  6. Could not agree more. I cannot comprehend why guys are so precious about getting a number that's printed by the organisors that they travel huge distances at a massive inconvenience simply to have this piece of paper. It's just a number FFS. Print your own and move on.
  7. Same here. Think i saw R495 for a late entry.????
  8. Nope. No error messages at all. Just endless update indicating completion in excess of 1000 minutes. 2wielitjies has been kind enough to offer some help. Will call him soon just getting through some Xmas functions.
  9. I am losing my mind and my hard earned cash with zwift. Have the following Kickr snap Garmin 1000 bundle Android phone Ant+ Dongle Lenovo desktop with win10 64bit Intel Pentium cpu J4025 @ 1.50ghz (4 cpus), 4GB RAM, Intel HE Graphics 2GB display memory. Wi-Fi using ADSL ALL purchased in the last week and not a pedal turned in anger. Having issues with the zwift updater basically running for hours on end. Raised a ticket with them and this appears to be a known issue. I am a non IT person and I cannot believe this is so difficult. Is there a simple solution around?
  10. You beat me to it Slowbee. Much appreciated.
  11. Financially or bicycly ?
  12. Another option. Not sure if it is sold outside SA.
  13. printing my race number, name and emergency contact on a A4 page then cut to size and attach to my jersey and bobs your uncle. read their rules and regulations and unless i missed something i did not see anything that said i could not do as i did.
  14. will park at venue ☺. thanks FB.
  15. With the change in venue to Maropeng is it possible to park somewhere in the cradle - Lion Park maybe and ride to Maropeng? How far would that be? Never been to Maropeng....sadly.
  16. Got my mango flight at R2500 return on 31 Aug. whats the prices like now?
  17. You guys may have noticed a link http://www.avis.co.za/cycletour in your CTCT registration confirmation email. Avis is an official partner of the CTCT. Being a CTCT participant, my expectation was that using this link would result in a reduced rate for car rental. This is not the case, even though the reservation process on the Avis site creates the impression of a benefit by reflecting some form of a “promo code” in the exactly the same place they display “Avis worldwide discount number”. In my opinion this creates the impression of a discount. The rental rates using the link provided by the CTCT email and the ones generated by simply typing in www.avis.co.za are exactly the same. When I contacted Avis and spoke to Mike, he tried desperately to convince me that a benefit exists for participants through what they term “Best rate of the day”. I tried in vain to convince him that the rate displayed for a CTCT participant using the CTCT supplied Avis link matches exactly with the rate for a non-participant, hence there was no benefit. He refused to acknowledge this reality. I checked the rates on Thursday using the link and then by simply using the Avis url and the rates were identical. I checked the same today and the rates were identical again. I then raised this with CTCT and a Mr. Dave Bellairs called me and confirmed that CTCT does not have an agreement in place with Avis to provide discounted rates to participants, however Avis does contribute to the CTCT in other forms and this contribution is to the benefit of the various charities linked to CTCT. He suspects that the promo code is merely used for tracking purposes so that Avis could see how many rentals they received from CTCT participants. The long and short of it all, I have no issue with CTCT but I do believe Avis are being a bit naughty with the way they have set this up on their site. Now, I am merely creating awareness that, in my opinion, there is an impression of a benefit being created by Avis where none exists and people should know this.
  18. as much i am looking forward to my first Argus at the second attempt the thought of riding the week thereafter in a dedicated cycling lane on the coast make the cost of the trip worthwhile. Lagoon beach to Melkbosstrand ????????
  19. Did the 103km yesterday starting from BL. Happy with my time as it was an improvement from 2016 despite serious lack of training and a never ending head wind. the last 20km were on the smoothest piece of road ever. i kinda got the feeling there was less of a vibe to this event than in previous years. any other hubbers care to share their thoughts. I cant seem to get "give me chocolates" out of my head. ????
  20. received an email from my accomodation of possible protest action on R556, with details of alternative routes. Not sure if they are merely being cautious or whether they know more than what i could source online. By my account looks like the event spends a while on the R556. I am not an expert in protests nor have i been a participant but i would suspect its a bit futile to protest on a Sunday of all days. Unless ofcourse its the Argus and the wind is howling Anyone have any news?
  21. thats awesome dude!
  22. Surely their daily register will confirm that the bulk of the cash comes from cyclists and the rest from the odd group of hikers. I must say in general the staff i dealt with did not exhude a great deal of warmth but i put that down to lack of job satisfaction. However Gerald mentioned that SBR representatives sought out the opinion of their club to help address challenges. Hardly the actions of an organisation that doesnt care?
  23. If they want cyclists out then they only need to have a 'No cycling' sign at the front door. Like they do with motorcyclists and runners. In all the time i have been there i have seen more cyclists than hikers.
  24. Done my bit too and sent a mail. My mail covered emergency contact numbers and the response to emergencies, and signage about the one-ways. Nothing revolutionary, impossible or costly to implement and one day may save someone's life.
  25. Sorry but have to disagree with you. i dont expect SBR to make the reserve 'cycling safe' and i made no inference to that in my post. It is my responsibility to ensure i am safe while cycling. My expectation of them is to maintain the road which is coincidentally also used for cycling and to respond to emergencies regardless of whether the emergency stems from a cycling related incident or any other incident involving a paid entrant into the reserve. Like you said cyclists are paying customers like anyone else. Being a nature reserve does not exclude you from having emergency response procedures in place.
