  1. tuariaan what shock you got? i got a black reba i would like to swop for a white one? maybe we can make a plan?
  2. taking your caluclations into consideration do you still think that 130 watts is accurate? we can get into a mathematical discussion for hours here but the point of the matter is there are just too many variables to accurately gauge the required power output we could probably nail the friction part of the equation but the other part is the tricky part, my suggestion? a letter to santa for a powermeter
  3. there are so many variables involved it is difficult to accurately guesstimate a value but i would hazard a guess that it would not be less than 200 watts as the power required to overcome just the friction i calculated at 74.97 watts where Watts to overcome friction = 0.1 x V x P Where velocity V is measured in meters/second and the weight P is measured in kilograms, for a decent race bike on a smooth road, the metric Cfriction is said to be about 0.1. We can therefore calculate, that at 8.33 meters per second (30km/h) , a rider and bike weighing 90 kilos faces a frictional resistance of about 75 watts. Things like road surface and position can substantially increase the coefficient of 0.1 and on the other end of things in an aero position on a really good bike the coefficient can go down to around 0.08
  4. those readings are not accurate at all, i would assume that they are calculated using friction and using average values for things like weight, wind speed, position etc etc
  5. using some assumptions at a power output of 155 watts you will be doing about 24 km/h
  6. the xterra fits in perfectly Rob ... two weeks after the first sasolcross ... give you something to do after the xterra too!
  7. bad news skaap! how serious is it? maybe some swimming?
  8. i will find out and let you know wheelsuck, knowing louis from spectrum sport there is bound to be a suprise somewhere
  9. are you speaking about the technical downhill with all the rocks wheelsuck? if its the section i'm thinking of it wont be part of the course. well i hope not because that is a seriously dodgy section, guaranteed to see allot of people walking it
  10. from what i understand it will be part of the redstone route Wheelsuck excluding the mountain climb... so it will be pretty flat and fast. take note that the swim will be a 1000m at the island estate race
  11. this must be some sort of record....... four posts in a row of perfect sense
  12. juswt over a month left till the first Sasol cross event
  13. hasn't this gadget got the same effect as lifting your hand to show you in trouble? that's why there are always lifeguards at sanctioned events? show me 100 triathletes that have decided to not do triathlons because of not being able to use wetsuits and i will be the first to sign a petition to TSA
  14. i is 2
  15. hahaha noooo.... today it actually does have a strange smell but mostly because of the raw sewage that flows into it every now and then
  16. hey watch it that my back yard you speaking about
  17. no..... but i can balance the probability that this is the dumbest post on the hub today on it!
  18. tests have shown that a wetsuit is 10 secs per 100 meters quicker ..... that equals one minute on a 600 meter swim. that minute is almost lost again in transition getting out of your wetsuit. i agree with seeker, i also only use my wetsuit if its very cold.
  19. buy cannondale they dont have a weight limit on their frames
  20. there was no understanding at the BSG harties Garfield, the water temp made it a wetsuit legal for the age groupers and non wetsuit for the elites. speaking about Harties ..... isnt that a perfect venue for a triathlon? if you get tired you can just stand up because the channel is only 1.5 meters deep!!
  21. i hear you crashtest but as harsh as this might sound .. if you cant do a race distance swim without a wetsuit you shouldn't be doing the race. i just think that a wetsuit should not be used as a aid to avoid drowning. im not being insensitive here and i understand the initial fear of a open water swim but in all honesty most of the short course races in SA is non wetsuit legal and you should be ready for that. a R3000 wetsuit can not replace swim training
  22. i think that your wetsuit may be giving you a false sense of security? `wetsuits don't make that much of a difference in fact i have had faster swim splits swimming without a wetsuit... and i think you may be wrong about the masses too as i am sure that the majority of novices don't own a wetsuit due to the price of the wetsuits. may i also just ask... i assume that most if not all of your swim training is done without a wetsuit? so i would suggest forgetting the wetsuit thing and start to enjoy the cold water
