  1. a wetsuit = about 10 sec's per 100m so if you lucky you will gain about 1 min in a sprint race and then you loose almost most on it in T1 getting the wetsuit off, in longer races it makes a big difference, in a sprint race you shouldnt be swimming more than 15 minutes if you are i would rather invest in a swim coach to improve your stroke swim stroke than spend it on a wetsuit
  2. no race belt required
  3. Guys please remember there are no late entries on the day no more if you dont enter on the bsg website no race for you!
  4. Why is it that certain people just do not get the message? I recall asking a certain person a couple of months ago the reason he frequents the Hub and just after that he left for a while which at this stage I wish was a much longer time. I have just been reading through the current posts and one thing is common amongst them all and no, its not that they are cycling related! Almost all the posts posted by Eccentric1 are not related to the OP and are posted purely for the knee jerk reaction, I find myself asking the question again Eccentric1 what is your purpose of frequenting the Hub expect for trolling? Why don’t you shave your beard and legs for that matter get on a bike and maybe you might relate to a lot more folks on the hub or move on to www. irritatingGeriatricnoncyclingdouchebags.com
  5. right in the middle of the page Velo there is a link to felt clearance

    BSG Rules

correct jhb tri is non drafting but the sprint should be draft legal

    BSG Rules

no those bars are not allowed in a draft legal race!

    BSG Rules

lenard remember that there are two types of triathlons - draft legal and non draft legal so you need to find out before the time if areobars are allowed or not... trust me the last thing you want to do is show aup at a race only to find out you brought the wrong bike or have aerobars that are illegal
  12. the problem with water quality tests is it can vary on a daily basis so tests should be done as close as possible to the race date, taking this into consideration, at a venue like Germiston you could test the water a week before the event and the water might be okay but should there be rain on the day before or on the day of the event you might have a problem with very high ecoli counts and that's the **** (excuse the pun) that makes you sick Germiston lake is effected by sewage that flows into the storm water drains and in turn the storm water drains are blocked up so when there is a rain storm the storm water drains overflow and everything lands up in the lake. the interesting thing about water quality tests is it differs a lot depending on where the sample is taken. so in some areas of the lake the counts might be within limits but in other areas the count might be very high especially at the inlet and outlet of the lake and unfortunately the area where the Joburg tri is held is smack bang in the middle of the high count area, I don’t understand why if they insist on having it at the Germiston lake they don’t move it over to the other side where the Energade was always held?

    BSG Rules

they will not be legal for any draft legal race
  14. the organisers of the BSG Engergade race will have the test results of the water prior to the races... just hope the new organisers of the JHB tri does the same
  15. what about the dam at Galooleys farm? i was stuck in traffic in line with it the other day and saw the dam there not too sure about the water quality
  16. wait for the one at the Island estate in Harties Vin... i think thats the best tri venue available at present
  17. the problem with buffelspoort is the road surface inside the venue ...it doesnt allow for roadbike use, secondly the road is too narrow to allow 600 athletes moving in one way and traffic in the other. So you would need full road closure which is a nighmare to arrange, buffelspoort is fantastic for offroad events because as you say the water quality is fantastic... in my opinion probably the best in the country
  18. the water quality issues are not temporary! the water quality is affected every time it rains
  19. the opposite end is where the Energade was always held... they moved their race for a reason, i will not enter the joburg tri until i have seen the water test results and secondly have you seen the entry costs? R400 per race??? looks like a new event organiser trying to make money out of the sport to me! how come the BSG races cost R200 and this one R400?
  20. i think the point that Garfield is trying to make is triathlon encompasses running cycling and swimming yet you need seperate race licenses for each of the events... he isnt saying that if you are a TSA member that we want a F1 race license but a running and cycling one would be nice
  21. i agree 100%
  22. i agree totally! i wouldnt swim in the dam but the water in the canals is perfect, trust me when i say that the organisers will not touch a venue with a barge pole if the water quality isnt right! hence moving the venue away from Germiston. the problem with Germiston is the water might test fine but if there is any rain before the event the lake gets contaminated and you just cant take a risk with peoples health. Also remember that the event sponsors cant just decide to move to a venue without the approval of TSA and the event organisers etc... and believe me the water quality is tested not just once, so in my opinion you can be damn sure that any one of the BSG Energade events will be safe in terms of water quality
  23. chain wizard.... click on the link i posted and have a look at the venue, Swimming Sa have events there i would probably say that the water quality there will be the best of all the venues
  24. damn right! from what i understand the race is at the prison apparenlty a very nice lake there..... convicts gong to be manning the waterpoints
  25. cape town race has been moved to worcester
