  1. Are you affiliated to HOKA in any way?
  2. With all the postponed events, the calendar in Oct is going to be jammed.
  3. 3 months to Comrades and almost 5 to Olympics. If we haven't got a handle on this by then we have far bigger issues than sports events.
  4. Was there as well, you must have finished right behind us - Great Run by the way. We finished 2:55:36 (finished around 720th) also went neg splits. 1:28.45 thru hw and 1:26.something coming back. I was in WAC kit, the 2:36 dude was Quinton Honey. He is really quick and does a lot of trail. It is a great route and weekend, Sevilla is an amazing city. Great vibe, great food and I actually prefer it to Barcelona. Would recommend this event to anybody looking for an awesome int'l marathon. Sorry about the sideways pics.
  5. It doesn't matter what your goal is, unless you are JW, Bongamusa or a Hamlett trained athlete you don't need to do that kind of distance. It will do more damage than good. Keep it reasonable, push yourself for sure. But you need to able to train pain free the next day.
  6. It needs to be taken in context of your overall training, distance to date/planned distance at the race and goal time. Ferret and I have done anywhere between 2 & 5 long runs (longer than 42k) with the longest being around 60k from march to the beginning of May over the last few years. Some the guys we run with do double that and others half that and at the finish of the race there isn't more than 20 minutes between us. Which is a couple of km/second pace difference on the day. We also do double session days but these generally will not be more than 25k accumulative. We do a lot of back to back sessions, where we do push the mileage. We will go pretty close to 2500k from the 1st of Jan. I judge it on what I think my body can take without breaking down. You need to judge that yourself, if you can get a long run in without the risk of injury then I would recommend that. Followed by a decent run the next day. There is no golden rule. Be sensible and but you need to push your body. I would always recommend going and doing one of the www.belovedlongruns.co.za routetesters if it is feasible.
  7. All you mention is he should be humble. I didn't pick up that he wasn't humble from that interview and that's why I asked what you didn't like about it. Is he confident - yes. Does he want to go out and win - yes. Is his race strategy to go out hard and make it painful for competitors to hang with him - yes. Does he think they can - no. Does this make him proud - yes. Does this make him arrogant - no. He acknowledges the quality of the field, he acknowledges that his tactic may give the opposition an advantage if he falters. That year it played right into Ryan's hands, when he won with a time over an hour slower than his PB and he never pushed JW once in the race. Since then JW's strategy has been right, he has gone hard and nobody has hung with him and set the record twice. Interviewer asked his thoughts and strat and instead of some media curated response he gave an open and honest response. What's not to respect about that? A good judge of what he is like, is how his fellow competitors view him. None seem to come across as disliking him or referring to him has a arrogant prick. But you are right, tastes differ. I like athletes who go out there and be themselves, don't make excuses and don't have a contrived media personality.
  8. Going back a little here. I just watched the clip, what about it didn't you like? Seemed an honest view on the race and his tactics and competitors. The privilege of being able to race full time and viewing at as a job. What do you expect from a race favourite when asked those types of questions?
  9. It was a slightly short course. Still would have been a PB though.
  10. Used them a little - I don't run trail - very comfortable. Feel like your road shoes with grip
  11. I would not recommend it on the day, it has certain laxative qualities as well. Definitely should be part of your normal diet though.
  12. A lot of people battle with the lactose powder in Pro Nutro. That's why the futurelife mix is in liquid form, nothing to chew your way through.
  13. Stretch, you are just a lot more sophisticated than I am.
  14. I know you have tried lots of different options. It might be worth giving Future Life a try. I mix a table spoon of the powder in a zip lock and run with that. When I need fuel i'll mix it with water and then bite a hole in the corner and squeeze it out. Easy on the stomach and hydrating at the same time. A new discovery was the Adapt Nut+Seed bars. They have them at Jacksons Real Food.
  15. We all have to make our own choice. (regarding cheating) The part that really gets me is the slow & systematic indoctrination that often is exerted by the coach on young or struggling athletes which gets them to the point where they are not making the choice anymore. The coach is put on a pedestal and their word is to be obeyed at any cost. It's a form of grooming often, and in teams it becomes the culture.
  16. Thanks, I read it the you felt it was disgusting the athletes were snitching. Which from the above doesn't seem to be the case. It seems that most often it is coach assisted or encouraged. Although athletes that are prepared to go that way will gravitate to certain coaches/managers/teams. It's often common knowledge when you are at that level, as to who to go to get the good stuff. You didn't need to be at an elite level to know that Salazar may have been able to assist your performance though. None of Salazars athletes publicly tested positive, showing the sophistication of the program. So the only way it was going to become public, was by those people in the program that are honest speaking out.
  17. I'm not following you here. Can you elaborate on what you mean?
  18. Baz, can only talk about Fly Knit, but it is by far the best upper I have run in. Doesn't get hot and dries quickly. Also, form fitting which makes sure there are no hotspots.
  19. As opposed to your other comrades? You are hardly known for over training.
  20. Got the road version of a trial shoe. Peg 36 Trail, closest to what i run road on, and I'm not going to become a trail bum anytime soon. I'll look super stylish while fishing though.
  21. I'm a pacer this weekend. I just had to go buy trail shoes, so it could be interesting. I see the weather is predicted to be super hot and dry, early berg wind vibe.
  22. This.... But without knowing your fitness, its hard to say. I would definitely add a few 28-32km runs in and try get at least 2 45-50km weekends in.
