  1. Anybody found any useful Apps for running in the Connect IQ store? Race Screen and Dozen Run seem interesting so far.
  2. Be the gentleman and give her your watch. That was totally obvious.
  3. My sister ran it and said it was surreal. almost no support the whole way, just running down these open streets. Her words: "it was a very strange experience". Geneva is a very sterile city in one of the most beautiful settings in the world.
  4. To finish. Putting everything on the line for a Silver, so it will either be that or nowhere near it. None of this missing it by a few minutes.
  5. JM in a touch under 1H48 mat - mat time. It was great course, fast and flat for the first 10 and then the little down hill and then working the last 12km or so. Did 6km before and did another 4 afterwards. Legs felt like lead on sunday. Well done all, every seems to be hitting their goals.
  6. My view on the sub 2: It is a contrived marketing experiment in a controlled environment. The question i keep asking myself, are the results even relevant? I would equate it to asking Bolt to go sub 9, in a 100m chamber that has reduced atmosphere, gravity, on a slight downhill and with a controlled tailwind. Is it a true physiological performance? The more interesting aspect is the psychological side of the experiment. It is one of the factors they can't control. How motivated are the athletes to suffer for this? What happens if they fall behind the required pacing? (4 sec/km is a massive improvement at this level) Each second per km they miss the effort required to make it up is exponential. What is there mental state going into it? What is the athletes driver to do the sub 2. Knowing that they have limited super fast marathons in them, what future opportunities are they sacrificing? Ultimately this will not be a world record, it will not be a race win? A massive pay day if they do under 2 perhaps? Do they share the cash, or is just the guy that crosses the line first?
  7. You in Dar? Mate lives there and says it was really tough getting long runs in for Oceans. Gets so hot so early it is hard to put in the quality sessions.
  8. Goal is 7:29:59. But I'm realistic that given i only started running in Nov it is a lofty goal. Not sure how the body is going to react in the last 20km. With the first 30km being so tough, as a novice you cant know how your body will react. Also race strategy is tough. Do you go conservative for the first half and trust your body to be able to hold the pace. close to even splits. Go through halfway at 3:40 Or. Or do try get some time in the bank and let yourself slow down and do positive splits. Go through halfway at 3:30?
  9. Easy Pace is 5:15 -5:30 Tempo is 4:00 - 4:30 It is a fair amount but these were my peak mileage weeks. From this week I start bringing it back down to 120-130km and then 100km and so on. Will add some more intensity though. Always watching for injury, Pilates, stretching and massage make a huge difference. I also have fairly long history of endurance sport, even though it is not a pure running background. Here is Saturdays run on the route.
  10. After a 150km week last week including Easter 100. Monday: easy 5km Tuesday: easy 15km Wednesday: 25km Hills race pace morning. 8km Tempo evening Thursday: 9km Tempo morning. 8km Tempo evening Friday: rest Saturday: Route Tester 60km easy. (Entered Loskop, but this seems a better idea as I haven't run on the course.) Sunday: 20km Easy from Hilton the Hiton College and back. Next week will be similar midweek, with the cradle race and probably Wally on the weekend. If the body gets through this 2/3 week period I will be a lot more confident.
  11. Thanks, That is proper bad luck. Hope it is just bruising and you are good to go.
  12. Training partner an I had set Irene Ultra as one of our big targets for Comrades Prep. Wanted to go sub 3h40 for an A seeding. With the balls up of the traffic at the start and then standing on the start line for probably 40 minutes, the head just wasn't in it. got running and slowly felt the drive again. at the turn around point we were on target but knew the real running was still come. Found a good rhythm up the drag and just continued from there. The heat from the turn around point just became oppressive. The section back through the school on the paving was torture. Running's version of the cobbles. Ended running 3h34 so goal achieved and felt okay at the end. Felt for the runners that were still running after 10:00 it was just so hot. Side note, the Adi Supernova's were perfect. Although if you have a wide foot you might battle as the toe box is not roomy. How was your Andrew?
  13. I have done a fair amount of research on neutral high mileage shoes since deciding to do comrades at the end of last year. Can't talk about the Nimbus, the reviews seem to speak for themselves. My experiences: Nike Pegasus, super comfy up to a marathon. NB 1080, awesome shoe for ultra's. Big downside is the overlay on the upper causes rubbing on the front of your arch. It is a well documented issue, i have used Kinesio tape to prevent this with great effect. Adi Supernova Glide Boost 8 - New model is now just called the Supernova. It took me about 100km to break them in/get used to them and now really enjoying them. Doing my first ultra in them on Sunday. http://www.runningshoesguru.com/
  14. And a blood bank, preferably the same one as Big George used to frequent.
  15. Linksfield Ridge, nasty nasty nasty. Here is another one that is not too far away from there. https://www.strava.com/segments/1260417
  16. I was introduced to a new beast of a hill Sat... hidden somewhere in Observatory, basically Sylvia Passes big daddy - hidden away little switch back hell in a culdesac. Might have to go run it again, was a proper challenge. Goes and looks at activity to find said hill.
  17. I have one going, doing the Route Tester that weekend instead. Yours if you want it.
  18. About 70% Scott. Max approx 197, resting Approx 48. At 70% it is not that low. A 4m/km on a 8km TT sits at 169 bpm 86% Hacc, Couple of reasons: Got bored, got Achilles Tendonitis after not resting (I got on the bike a week later to do some training for Imana Wild Ride) and just didn't stop riding after that. B2B didn't really interest me.
  19. I have not run since Comrades 2010, and only did my first marathon that year at PicknPay in Feb. Decided to do comrades and enter in Oct. These are my stats so far, and looking to build to 120 in March and 140 in April per week. will probably end between 2200-2500 depending. See you all at Vaal. Hoping to get the b seeding under way after just missing it a JC. Will try for an A at Irene Ultra. The progress summary is from the 01/01/17 to today
  20. Does anybody else find it intriguing. Cycling: Feel a niggle and you bean yourself (The world is going to end) and take time off, don't train or race. Basically become soccer players. Running: If you are not running with a niggle of some kind you are not training hard enough. Go for a run, feel something getting tight. Keep going for another 10km because that is what you had to do that day.
  21. She effectively served her ban retrospectively as the announcement only came out after the ban had been served if a remember correctly. She competed for almost the entire duration of her 'ban' and won several races in that time.
  22. On that note, if anybody else knows of a comrades entry going please let me know. I have a mate who cannot plan and now needs one. On Comrades qualifying, for the Gauteng and surrounds. Vaal marathon and Irene ultra and good for Q and seeding purposes.
  23. Jackes, I have a similar problem with my NB 1080. Couldn't run 5km in them without a blister forming from the irritation. Solution: Bought some Kinesio Tape, which I now tape over the spot and no problems so far. Longest run I have done like this was Johnson on the weekend. I hope it helps. A lot cheaper than throwing the shoes away.
