  1. This is what most of you sound like.... So very typical. Poor attitude towards buyers/customers Poor customer service. Poor customer management. More than often, symptoms of the South African business environment. Many comments here, prove just that. Talking of "money" in hand, without any effort. Go for it ! Stick to that philosophy. One wonders why so many good business ideas never prosper.
  2. When the hub was 'reconstructed' the buyer <> seller FEEDBACK SYSTEM was introduced. This system was brought to life as a result of the democratic demand in many threads for this. Now that we have it, suddenly everybody forgets about it. If the feedback and the sale thread is properly used it would be invaluable. Example: I have looked at gordonwilson's trader rating. There is nothing there. He reports that he is a great seller. Somebody else vouched for him that he is a stand up guy. So what. The facts actually say nothing. Why dont you translate your "vouch" into the feedback system. I also direct this at you aebro. If it was properly used I would be able to look at aebro's record and gordonwilson's record and this would probably tell me who is more credible. At the moment there is a lot of cock swinging and "show me the money" but nothing else. (B) Now I have a corollary to test. Hypothetical test would run: If dibs is not relevant here: then somebody should pick a few sale threads and go and utter some dibs all over them. Lets test it and see what the seller response or expectation is. The result is a disappointed and confused seller. He would assume that you have expressed interest. That is not ambiguous. So why is 'dibs' trashed at individual convenience.
  3. Nice word. But not an answer. You can advertise wherever you want. That is the free market system as you correctly point out. Yes, that system is to be revered in every sense of its capitalist definition. But, review the suggestion, if you choose to advertise on the hub you are requested to be exclusive for that time. What you do before or after that is entirely up to you.
  4. Good to know. Thanks. Now I'm "clued" up. So its clear then: the guy who was successful in purchasing should have "dibssed" before aebro; and then phoned. or The seller could have posted at 14h15 to inform aebro that he has received feedback by phone or PM and that aebro actually has 2nd dibs and will be contacted if the sale falls through. That way the seller continues to use and update the sale thread. That way aebro would have not been led to believe he was first in line.
  5. Hey, I really believe the hub should be a great place to buy and sell. I really wish that for a great forum that I enjoy. We should work towards that. If you want to engage in all kinds of dealings go sell elsewhere.
  6. Show me where you read this?
  7. ^ just when I thought we might just be doing some constructive solution building in our own strange way
  8. Yes, I am. Why shouldn't that be the case? I've looked on the link to the ad from the OP and I dont see the number. Also looked on the personal details page. Please show the listed number.
  9. Smiles, you do make a very important point here. The system does work well if the advert is exclusive to the hub. The ethos of the seller is called to test. It is a rule on other forums for this reason. Again it is the community approach above the business approach. I, for one, support the cyclist hub community approach ( the strange family that we are)
  10. PLEASE, use the seller and buyer rating system on the hub to its full potential and you will see how the community will regulate bad purchasers and sellers. Hubbers lobbied for a long time for this system. Now its here and hardly anybody makes use of it. Just a bunch of sideline commentators who don't purchase much and cant appreciate the value of this tool of the hub.
  11. Get over yourself chap. Gordon chose to sell on the hub. Gordon chose to start his sale using a hub thread as a sale medium. Gordon should continue to use the thread to complete the transaction. It is unfair to post up and then take all dealings out of sight. That is fundamentally wrong. If that's how he would like to operate then do so on junkmail or gumtree where that is a norm. There are no comment options on gumtree sales. Not so??? So why are there coment options on hub sale threads???? But, I've already stated this in a previous post. I've conducted many purchases and sales on many forums; 'dibs' is acceptable format. Dibs is concrete. Here on the hub, I have thrown dibs and it has been honored each time. There are plenty of good ethical transactions on the hub based on dibs. testimony that dibs IS concrete. How do you regulate higher private price offerings and sales on other mediums.
  12. Read this slooooooooowly. (1) Is the seller not "notified"/"receives notice" of the intent if the potential buyer indicates so on the sellers sale thread by typing dibs? (2) This was 5 minutes after the seller created the sale thread. (3) What the hell is "concrete intent"? Degrees of intent relevant here? (4) How is "dibs" not reflective of "intent"? (5) People can stand up where they like. But to err is human.
  13. If I dibs, I've made an open commitment to purchase the article. I have put thought and action into posting that word. Personally I type "dibs" and send PM's or call to confirm my first option. I will not say that I will buy it. I'll say that I want to have first option. i.e. I'll buy it subject to conditions. Whatever those conditions may be: like postage, packaging, form of payment, etc. I assume to get first option. If I don't respond with due performance the buyer rating system should be utilised to its full potential. Others can ask for 2nd dibs and third. There is an obligation for the seller to respect this call. Again the seller rating system should be used to its full potential. I do not assume that somebody has sent a pm before me without calling dibs on the forum If you want to deal on a first come first serve basis ... do so in the junkmails or gumtree. Then do not sell here. This forum is not really free market economy but I believe that there was a vision to create a more personal space for cyclists and lovers of all things cycling. I feel very strongly that community selling should be different and open. My experience on other forums is excellent in this regard. There is nothing playschool about the word dibs ! Its a great etiquette and it works very well and especially if it is community regulated. I believe aebro was under a strong impression that he was in process of transaction. Hence this thread. Any shortcoming in performance should have been highlighted by the seller, so that aebro could respond. This should all be clearly spelled out on the sale thread, as simple communication. Seller fail: irrespective of how credible you think your response or credentials may be on this thread.
  14. This is clearly a false statement. If the deal was near completion before aebro had made contact then there should have been no reason that aebro should have been remotely mislead or given any impression other than that the sael was already concluded.
