  1. The design o fthe fastback stays is also untypical of colnago and also indicative that she isn't that old.
  2. nag BB's have either the clover cut out or they have the word "colnago" engraved on the top of the shell on either side. Also focus on the rear brake bridge. The square bush was also embossed with a clover. Two things that must be mentioned about this bike; that point to the fact that this bike is definitely not older than estimation of 1986: (1) the short 45deg rear dropouts (2) the double bottle cage mountings.
  3. something special for today...
  4. oops sorry, on second thought, it may well be a calnago but it still isn't a colnago
  5. Again... You've done a great and detailed job on the Merckx. I am often pretty unimpressed by the "neo-retro" builds. Its a fine line and I am lead to believe by your masterpiece; that it is only perfectly completed with no compromise in top drawer components. (and superb photographic documentation such as yours) Thanks J for sharing the leads on the stem and bar.
  6. The Epic will never attain the legacy potential of the Comrades with the current strategy
  7. Reading this, its clear that, people don't think that the perceived value is worth R35000 an entry. Entry fees are not determined by celebrity value or exclusivity premiums; or servitude fees, or organizer GP calculations. All businesses will only succeed to sell at price that the market is prepared to pay.
  8. If it seems to good to be true... it often isn't I have actually had a similar incident in responding to an ad for a boat. The response is that he is selling urgently. However he is the UK and the transaction will be done via ebay so that I may benefit from the buyer protection. (btw there is no such thing as seller protection re paypal) The request was to send my full name and address so that the process may be initiated for me. I am a registered user with ebay so I only need to supply my user name in such an instance. Needless to say there is still no notification in my ebay account. What would he do with my name and address?? oh... and obviously a non specific email like gmail or aol or yahoo is also evidence
  9. Returned for another eyeful of the Merckx. Definitely a very classy selection of 3ttt Evo stem and the beautiful 3ttt bar setup. I think its the classic deep shape of the drops that is just so correct. Where can one buy a new Evo stem (100mm) and new bars (preferably Competizione Gimondi bend 44 or 46)?
  10. Good quality pics though! Need one of the top of the rear brake bridge. More clarity on the fast back stay configuration and the bottom of the BB. The short 45deg rear drop outs are also interesting, and I would be inquisitive to know if there is any thing written on the dropout when you remove the wheel. It's a good frame (especially with a racing number braze on) but not yet sure which make.
  11. The fork belongs to a nag. But the frame isn't a nag. Its been resprayed and the lugs are are not colnago lugs. They should be a bit more elaborate: often an embellished tip and mostly the club symbol in the lug. The underside of the BB should carry the biggest clues about the frame.
  12. The red merckx is haaawt ! Really beautiful build. Especially like the stem and bars.
  13. Love this page. Beautiful bikes.
  14. Worried about the "ions" in my drink.
  15. Great idea. Looks like it should work perfectly.
  16. ... as important: fume mask with filters !!
  17. How did you "polish" it?
  18. Sorry to hear that this happened to you. Also thumbs up to "the person in the bakkie"
  19. I saw a TITAN today for the first time Specifically the TITAN Sport 29er. I think its a great bike for a beginner at R5500
  20. Hey RB, that certainly is a special project. Top drawer potential. ( that watch and cycling glove tan is quite pronounced!)
  21. What about the gates at the entrance to your exclusive use parking lot? Do you not lock those gates? This happened at the old shop too didn't it? In both shops, the entrance was "at the rear" i.e not always visible to passing traffic. Surely you guys should have learnt something by now and placed strategic heavy concrete bollards around windows and doors?
  22. Many thanks to all, for an entertaining year. Look forward to 2012 on the hub. Awesome fun.
  23. You should have stopped typing after the first exclamation mark.
