  1. There is another post where one of the CGC officials asked anyine to go identify bikes
  2. Where did you guys ride ? Where is the big hole ? At the sand pans ? The guys from Finish Line also ride out Benoni way. If you arrange you can find a place to meet on the way. Lot of Benoni riders meet up with them.
  3. I agree. This guy is useless. I actually rewound to see if he really did call it a pentalon.....and he had. I think the oke uses Prozac as a stimulant he is sooooo excitable.
  4. Lets face it........a Leopard doesn't change it's spots. Cyclists have been doping for decades. CSA ( SACF....whatever form you want) have been covering it up for decades. Why should anything be different now. I reckon, ban the guy/gal, get fired from your team and more important fine them a years salary as well as fine them any winnings/endorsements for the previous year. When it hits guys pockets in a big time as well, then they might start thinking twice.
  5. I can spot experience a mile away when I read it... will you be my Mentor? No problem, but this is an art that takes time to master. As one Hubbers quote says....something like....work is something to fill in the time between rides.
  6. Look on the brightside...... You can do some brown-nosing for that promotion. He may feel sorry for you coz yor bike is crappie compared to his and give you a raise. Organise your next performance review on the trail. Just don't let him catch you there while you pretending to be sick to get some rides in.
  7. It's a 1988, FJ60, 4l petrol GX Stationwagon. A diesel would be nice. Will never sell if I don't have to.
  8. Sorry I missed this origonal debate. Heard lots of bad stuff about Fortuners, but a lot was from Landrover salesmen. If you read the manual it actual says that the car is top heavy and could roll if not driven properly (something along those lines) That's why I stick to the Best 4x4 My 1988 Landcruiser S/W 300 000k's and goes perfectly. All origonal engine as well, except for service spares.
  9. I think I should cancel my tv license in protest
  10. Absolutely pathetic. I could have been watching any 12 (not14) riders riding along a Cape road from 1000 metres. Couldn't see any action for the last 30 k's. As Pirate said, 1 man broke away, we don't even now who it was, and the camera didn't pick him up. What a waste of watching time.
  11. Ah, now this thread is looking up, we can start talking about a TRUE legend .......Eddy the MAN
  12. I think the dude at the back was so grumpy because the pace was so slow and he was still dropping off the back. He paid R175k and couldn't keep up.
  13. Maybe they should hold the mtb race on the same day as the road race. Then all the roadies that hate mud and water ( that's what mtb'ing) is about) will rather ride the road race. I have ridden there when not wet and it is awsome, tough and dry. We have had a month of rain, even my garden is waterlogged. The tar roads still have water running down them. How do you expect a mtb race to be perfectly dry. Lee put's in hours of work in his own time for no pay to try and get that trask ridable. He mows sections clears areas etc all by himself. I think he deserves credit for that. There was a time when the more extreme, wet and nasty a mtb race was the better. Seems now we need long straight rides down sand farm roads with no hills.......oh yes, and a good goodie bag...........to make a good mtb race !!
  14. Not too sure what the cost of a farm in the area has to do with anything. Does that suddenly make them better than everyone else and above the law, or does it imply they must be lawyers to afford such a price ????? Maybe it's daddy's money, coz it sounds like a bunch of kids in a playground !!!! Just my 2 cents worth, and no I don't live there or ride there. Doubt I'd like to do either. I'll take my chances being hijacked on the East.
  15. I want to relate my experience over New Year. I was down in Curries Post near Howick. Obviously plenty of places to ride, but didn't really know wher to go etc. I managed to get the number for Ken, the chairman of the Howick MTB club off the web. I phoned him and arranged to meet for a ride on New Years eve. He took me for an awsome ride through the Sappi forest outside Howick. It was an amazing ride. Good climbs, plenty of singletrack, and fast singletrack downhills. Ken created most of the trails we rode on. And after the ride, went to his place for a beer. I then spoke to the guys at Adrenalin Cycles in Howick. They invited me to their weekend ride at Karkloof. Once again, amazing ride through the Karkloof. Very different to the Sappi forest, but lots of climbs, singletracks and winding downhills. They even brought me coffee because of a change in times. I was there early and the ride only started an hour later. All I can say is a great experience, great hospitality from the Howick guys (other than their time being different to ours in JHB ) and some amazing scenery. Unfortuantely I had to keep a prior golfing arrangement on the Sunday so missed a 2nd ride through the Karkloof. I can definately recommend the area and contact the locals. Thanks guys for showing me around and making my cycling weekend.

I think it's a great idea. Make racing much more interesting. Guys will have to think on their "pedals" whether to chase breaks down and who to let go.
  17. This is really sad, especially after all he's been through. I raced against The Idol in his heyday ( although he was a good few years older). Can't say he was the perfect role model, but we all aspired to be as good as him. Definately the best we ever had. RIP
  18. I went to Cajees in 4-ways about 5 years back to get a bolt for a child seat for the bike. They didn't have so the guy went into the back to look through all the old stuff. Found an old used bolt in a box of nuts and bolts. The owner then told him to charge me R80 for the bolt. When I complained and said u gotta be kidding, I was basically chased out the shop and told to f-off. I vowed to never shop at Cajees again, which I haven't, and to tell anyone I can about how *** they are, and I'm still doing that.
  19. Here is an extract from an interesting article in the Business Day. Adds weight to the comments about riders like Lance that have never been caught only because they are ahead of the game. It is one thing talking the talk, but in practice anti-doping agencies are always a step behind the drug users. At any given moment there are drugs that are simply not detectable. ?We do not know how to detect undetectable drugs,? says Noakes. ?All the best athletes with unlimited budgets have access to the undetectables and the ?scientists? who provide them. The market appears to be very large.? Galant agrees that anti-doping agencies are playing catch-up, and that testing is unable to keep up with rapidly evolving drugs. ?Our resources allocated towards testing are not sufficient to really say we are winning the fight.? For the whole article..... http://www.businessday.co.za/articles/Content.aspx?id=86123
  20. Unfortunately, every good story probably has a bad story. When I was looking to purchase a new mtb a year back I went to FPC in Paulshof. I had a hardtail and was looking for the same. The sales guy did a whole sales pitch as to why I should buy a full suspension. My comment that I had never ridden one prompted him to comment then how can you make an informed decision. So far he was doing well. He then suggested I try one of their demo bikes for a week and then decide. I thought that was great. Unfortunately after a week I had not received the promised call that the bike was ready. I gave him a chance and called him to remind him. I was told there was a delay ad it would be a few days and he would call. I am still waiting, and have since bought a hardtail from Finish Line Cycles where I always received great service. ( before anyone says the thread is for comments on good service )
  21. I seem to remember him coming here once before.......he cancelled at the last minute.
  22. If you look I have already deleted the comments....about all the shops. So I stand by my comment of "Find the LBS that you can trust and feel comfortable doing business with"
  23. It was my view as to why I don't support the LBS. Much the same as the reason i don't support the other lbs'.I stand by my statement, as the incident did happen, but I don't think I need to provide all the detail of when and how for everybody. And I don't know the why. HR knows the man, I've provided him with my views, and the detail of the incident. He is welcome to discuss it with him.
  24. Holy roller, sent you a pm as I don't think the detail should be on an open forum.
