  1. Lots on and in the media about the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11... So let me reminisce ... broadcasts of Voice of America on Short Wave from an old valve radio. No TV in ZA in the time,. Verbotten by those who deemed it the devil's work. We went to see a replay in Jhb City Hall where the American Embassy had set up some TV sets to play the landing from video recordings. Followed all subsequent launched on the same all the way to Apollo 17, and the Space Shuttle in the 1980's. The Internet made it possible to view live launches and missions, including the construction of the ISS Now its just normal to watch a live stream from the side of a rocket as it reaches escape velocity, in HD. Not much mention or tributes to Nazi engineer Wernher von Braun who was largely responsible for the whole shabang, In fact it was him who got the idea into Kennedy head. And it was his rocket that made the mission possible.
  2. Turkey booted out the F35 program Times are a-changing!
  3. Are there still any MD-80's flying in ZA?
  4. Anyone else ever go to Cream back in the day?
  5. F16 with conformal fuel tanks - IAF (Israel) has a few. Fugly in terms ot the lines but apparently does not adversely effect the aerodynamics or drag.
  6. its well known that Cav is into his Scouse House tho
  7. By comparison, in thie Tour are there any other athletes on any other teams who have not earned there place and are there by entitlement?
  8. Its clear he has become a liability for the team - and I would say it was a mistake keeping him on this year, but it is what it is and the point is it could have been handled better. The Cycling Podcast guys made this point quite well yesterday.
  9. Quite a lot of negative publicity for the team on this - its clear it could have been handled better in terms of the initial media release, they should have mentioned Cav and how regrettable it was not to be able to include him etc instead of no mention whatsoever. Brits in general seem outraged, The Wig and Brian Smith (ex DD team manager who signed Cav and the boys, and I think Ralf) were going OFF about it on Eurosport yesterday with the latter slagging off Doug on air. Maybe its because he was shown the door.
  10. Ralfie boy is part of the problem, not the solution imho. Bit like Jeremy Corbin & Brexit.
  11. Quite possibly being shackled with superstar Cav and expectations (+crew) and have weighed down the team - must be quite demoralising for the other guys when all the focus goes into an unrealistic expectation, hopefully they can move on (and up) now.
  12. Isn't Rolf is part of the Cav package?
  13. Cav can always cheer himself up by checking his net worth I guess.
  14. Prob. unlikely he will pull off another Mandela Day move, but rather him than Cav & crew imho.
  15. Steve is a lone ranger and opportunist which has been known to pay of
  16. I can't see them going for GC, maybe a stage or two if they are very lucky.
  17. That's a relief. - no Cav melodrama
  18. "Dudu made me do it" https://www.businesslive.co.za/bd/national/2019-07-01-dudu-myeni-made-me-appoint-people-says-former-saa-manager-mathulwane-mpshe/ Like I said most of the upper echelons and management have to go if the organisation is to survive.
  19. Thing about that new feature at Changi you have to check in to Singapore to experience it, which actually is not too much of a hassle, visa free.
  20. I've flown Ethiopian and yes the transit was a bit of an unpleasant 3rd work experience but apparently they are sorting out a new terminal, they sure need it. Cabin crew was nice though
  21. Yes they should amend to "used to be" but you can see (in general) how that press release is littered with formulaic PR-propoganda speak
  22. Love a lovely designed airport! That TWA Terminal @ JFK has been refurbished and reopened as a hotel - there is a Lockheed Constellation there as a Cocktail Bar.
  23. New SAA A350s will go some way to lift spirits of all concerned but really if Cde Zukisa was serious about an "unmatched and consistent customer experience" she would immediately have all the cabin staff reapply for their jobs, on merit.
  24. New Beijing International Airport - wow! Searching for the Architect I got "The new Daxing airport, designed by the late architect Zaha Hadid and her Chinese partners," https://www.architectmagazine.com/project-gallery/beijing-new-airport-terminal-building-6506 https://www.architectmagazine.com/firms/zaha-hadid-architects
  25. Eish what went wrong... not a shortage of money or good bikes.
