  1. Lots of guys in Gauteng run that combo. If I wasn't a Maxxis Fan that would be my choice. The Saguaro and Barzo have good grip levels with decent rolling resistance....but you have to try them to determine if they really work for you . I have also seen some run the Saguaro rear and Ardent front! Can't see that your Ardent would wear that quick up front.
  2. Just had a good look at the Ardent Race again and I think this would be a better alternative to run on the rear for me instead of the Ardent 2.25! The center tread on the Ardent Race looks as though it would be a better roller as the transition knobs are 1 for every center knob whereas the Ardent is every second. The Race has the outer knobs more tightly spaced so not as aggressive with corner bite. Just a pity the local agents don't bring in the 2.2 wide version as 2.35 might be pushing the clearance a little on my rear frame

  6. Being visible is and should be a matter of personal preservation. I can understand that some people do not like to attract attention to themselves when it is dark as it may alert the criminal element of your whereabouts, but then at least use something reflective so you are more visible to motorists! I use a Lumo yellow Maxed cycle shirt with a few reflective bits on it (Cheaper than the other brands @R200 and fits my large frame well), first ascent arm and leg warmers with reflective bits and the R400 combo USB rechargeable Ryder Crux 250L front with the TRI-LED rear light set. I have the rear set to a slow strobe and the front is more than enough when set to full beam when dark and full strobe during the day or at dusk and dawn. Also use the first accent jacket when it is too cold. Small fanny bag under the saddle also has reflect strip. Not much I know but better than nothing and the light package was really good value for money, especially since both lights are USB rechargeable and you don't have to keep buying batteries or mount a large battery pack to your frame!

  8. Was there yesterday...chocs were possibly still being off loaded as they were still setting up a few stands etc. after 11:30 and collection was from 10... Apparently there was no power either so you had to walk a K to get to the nearest ATM to pay for late entries (not for me but for a friend). Oh well

  10. Wow that place is a serious leg killer. Had to walk up most of the last hill section. Was impressed with myself for riding most of it! Did my fastest top end ever of 66.2km/h and that was just with my weight pulling me down (MTB). Probably could have gone faster but didn't want to fly off the edge of the bends . Brake disc got nice and blue too...

  12. Would it not be a 3% difference in pedal cadence as well and is that significant enough to "very bad"?
  13. I see that the XT M8000 crank is also offered in 180mm. I currently have a 175mm and am a touch over 2m tall. As the 180mm is more expensive, what benefit would I see with the extra 5mm or is it negligible in the bigger picture of things?
  14. My wife is around 63kg's and uses the 2.25 Ardent up front and 2.1 crossmark at the rear on mixed terrain without any issues.

  16. I also noticed this on both my old and new bikes. I have had the LBS and local Mechy check it all out by taking the crank apart and swapping pedals etc. but it is still there!!! Basically whenever I apply pressure to the drive train. No one could find anything wrong except for for seat post creaking. However it still does it when I am out of the seat... Anyway I am now at the point where I am getting used to the noise and hardly hear it anymore. It is actually so bad that my wife can hear my bike making all these horrible creaking noises when we are riding 10 meters apart! It might be that my long legs are applying too much torque for the little crank to handle I would still love to get it sorted so please post your findings and I will see if it is different to what we have checked thus far.
  17. I love my Maxxis tyres and settled on the brand after countless hours of researching before going the tubeless route. Durability, ease of fitment (no compressor), looks and affordability were what did it for me! I am still trying to find mine and the wife's perfect Maxxis tyre combo for the area's and terrain we ride on, but I also like to have some for backup and for those surfaces which we will still encounter in the future. We started on crossmarks front and rear and then swapped out the front for the new Forekaster which provided much needed stability up front. I have a 2.4 Ardent that I want to try on the front and also have 2 more 2.25 Ardents on their way for more testing . I would really like to give the Ikon's a try on the rears especially on my bike as I am not a small fellow and need a little more volume that the 2.2 ikon would provide, while still providing excellent rolling resistance! #scottsportafrica #maxxistyresSA #bikehubber

  21. Haven't serviced my bike there before but can vouch for the excellent service
  22. Just on feel the LUST tire side walls are thicker but I am sure there are loads of people running the EXO without any problems. Majority like to ride with a narrower rear and wider front. Both the same would be fine but I would not go wide rear and narrow front! Both LUST and EXO casings mount and seal fine even using a floor/foot pump so no need for a compressor or bomb. The LUST casings are generally heavier compared to their equivalent EXO brothers and sisters but you cannot have durability without giving up on something else. That said, the new Aggressor is only available in EXO and weighs 900g's which is the same if not more than some LUST treads. this seems more to do with the tread design and the fact that they use more meaty nobblies... Check the Maxxis site for all specs etc.
  23. Have you tried fitting the tyre or are you relying on Internet feedback? Did you get the T/R EXO cased version or something else? I would say stick with a crossmark LUST at the rear and go with a wider ikon on the front, unless you looking for something a little more aggressive then you could look at the Ardent in front but the 2.25 LUST version. The 2.25 LUST feels like it has a slightly harder compound so should last a little longer...
