  1. Already covered under this topic... https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/126846-csa-ppa-the-heat-is-on/page__st__448
  2. Well done PPA.
  3. If the marathon goes up the Mamba then a 32x20 (29") Mind you, even if its doesn't there are more than enough hills to warrant the 32x20.
  4. If you can already run 24k it's an easy progression to run a marathon. You don't train for Comrades by running a similar distance, likewise, you don't train for a marathon by running the marathon distance. Build up to 34k's in training and run that on a couple of occasions, tapering down to 15k the week before your marathon. All my previous marathons have been run with a maximum of 32/34k's in training including IM.
  5. Fritz, I don't want a refund. The route was great despite the mud. I was just venting my frustrations given your massive experience in the previously organising these events. I am impressed that you've come back on to address further issues and for that I thank you and as far as I'm concerned, the matter is now closed.
  6. No we can't but by making our feelings known we can hope something positive will come out it.
  7. A question to the cyclists that voiced their unhappiness. Are you happy that Fritz's statement addressed the issues adequately? From my perspective, his statement raised more questions than answers... Why claim you were expecting between 1000 - 1500 cyclists when you knew that there were over 1900 pre-entrants? Why utilise a new timing company for a national race without first having a trial run? If the WP's did not have access to running water due to the nature of the route, why place them there? If you knew there was no running water at the WP's why not arrange for water tankers? and the list could go on... And one of a general nature.. Does Advendurance "own" the national series or does CSA issue a tender to run the national series?
  8. And that is exactly what we do. Then you get people who are willing to accept the status quo even if they get shafted. I presume you fall into the latter category.
  9. Putting together a team but will be using gears this time.
  10. I generally run 32x17 on a 29er but change according to the demands of the terrain.
  11. Fark, sorry to hear that, hope you heal up soon!
  12. Thanks for your response Fritz. I do agree that you "undercatered" at the Waterpoints, however, with the experienced gained from running the National series and the Nissan series in Gauteng, you should have been more prepared for any late influx of entries. Do the CSA Race Commissars get involved in overseeing the standards of the route and water points at the events or is that left up to the organisers? Something which is beyond your scope and should be more directed at CSA, why was there no one checking licences at registration? Don't CSA claim their R35 from yourselves for those day licence entrants? How do they work that amount out if there was no representation at the event? At Attakwas three weeks ago, a rider had to show his CSA licence or pay their R35 before they could register for the race.
  13. There might not be any water at the WP's at SS championships but I can guarantee you that there will be beer and possibly other liquid refreshment
  14. I look forward to his response.
  15. Hardluck, I also lost around 20 minutes due to punctures.
  16. So how many times do we as "customers" have to put up with sub-standard water tables from the Advendurance team? No water from batch B onwards and resorting to using dirty river water to fill bottles? Standard excuses that will given... we had more people than anticipated.... it was muddy and we couldn't get vehicles through....people washed their glasses in the drinking water..... I call bullshite on every single one. Advendurance know exactly how many people are expected! The standard of water tables was atrocious to say the least and this is a national series!! Fortunately, the weather was mild. I hate to see what might have happened if the temperature was in the 30's with no water. Smacks to me of purely trying to save money and maximise profit! Fritz, Tim Fair and everyone associated with Advendurance need to visit the smaller races and see how to put water tables together. They definitely can learn a thing or two. Surely it is a duty of the race commissar appointed by CSA to oversee ALL ASPECTS of the race and not just sit in the finish tent. If they got into their cars and actually looked at the route and had pre-defined standards, they could quickly see whether the route (including water tables) met these criteria! This includes having 3 races converge onto tight singletrack in the last4/5 k's. CSA are a joke! But that's another topic entirely! A mate this weekend had a great analogy of CSA, they're just the same as an e-toll road. You have no choice to pay (eventually) and get absolutely sweet Fanny Adams in return!!
  17. Haha, you obviously can't see beyond the colouring. They don't look similar in the slightest!
  18. I rest my case
  19. JKM in Ferndale will have. http://www.jkm.co.za/contact.php Take a sample with.
  20. Picked this up last night...and will be put to good use this weekend.
  21. Always thought you where a true mountain biker that eschewed the idea of skinny wheels. Oh well....
  22. A personal preference but I would go for something like Hope Pro2 hubs with ZTR Arch rims. In my opinion pretty much bombproof.

  24. Something similar.... A friend of mine in East London had his Giant XTC stolen out of his garage. 6 weeks later at a sprint Adventure Race, he sees a guy on his stolen bike. Goes up to the guy and asks where he got it from. The answer was Cash Crusaders. My mate went to the cops, told his insurance company but absolutely nothing came of it.
  25. I would err on the side of caution and plan on the 1800m.
