Yes, there a number of areas that the author ignores or glances over but the the differences between the 26" & 650b are largely insignificant and making the change due to perceived advantages or marketing rhetoric is wrong. There are far bigger gains to be had by going to 29" That's not to say though that a 650b is not the bike for you if you are purchasing your first bike or you are too small for a 29"

Best way would be as follows: From Northcliff corner... Down Beyers Naude towards Mellville Left into Judith Right into Barry Hertzog Left into Empire Right into Jan Smuts --> up the hill into town Past Audi and at the robots on Nelson Mandela bridge turn left (think its called Smit Street) Carry on straight through town into Simmonds street Down Simmonds and immediately after the M2 flyover turn right into Booysens Road Straight down Booysens road Left into Klipriver Drive Down Klipriver, passing the Thaba and Rietvlei turnoffs to the t-junction Right at the T-junction onto the Vereeniging Road Left onto the R557 which should then take you straight through to the Suikerbosrand entrance.

The benefit you get from upgrading from a 26" to a 650b is negligible. Rather upgrade to the 29" where the benefit will be far greater.

I just did this exercise for a friend of mine. The two bikes in question were the Momsen SL729 & Silverback Storm. Silverback is full XT whereas the Momsen was a mix and match of low level SRAM components. Silverback won.

It is actually that easy. I did both my Pro 2 hubs on Saturday afternoon. Didn't take longer than 30 minutes.
