  1. I also didn't enjoy the Vaal marathon. Going to give Kaapse Hoop a good go. Hoping for a sub 4 so I can qualify for Batch D - Comrades. Speed is there or there abouts, finished all 3 Vitality races between 1H51-1H55 and ran a 32km in Sub 3Hrs..
  2. I beg to differ on the Vaal Marathon. Its a flat route BUT you have to work the entire way. Johnson Crane is easy and from what I heard, Kaapse Hoop is a good fast qualifier for Comrades...
  3. Was a toughy, especially the first half - battled to get into a rhythm. The second half was a lot more enjoyable. Finished around 1H54mins. Good hill training.
  4. We using the Coach Parry Bronze medal programme off the Comrades website. We have been trying to run 45-50km's per week (3x10km during the week and 21km on weekend). Definitely can feel that the fitness is increasing. From what I can see is that you must have a good base to work off for next year when the km's per week ramp up. The Discovery Vitality races have been good for hill training (especially the last one in Randburg!). Just goal now is to train smart without getting injured before the first qualifier marathon in November (Kaapse Hoop). GOOD LUCK
  5. Comrades 2018 ENTERED! First timer...
  6. I'm running, going to be hilliest of the Vitality races. Will be a good one but HOT!
  7. Bought the 33's last year bud, when they just came out..... I know now that they are selling at reduced price because the 34's are out..
  8. I run with Nike Pegasus 33's - very happy with them. Also at R 2000 they a lot cheaper than the competition.
  9. Those Hoka's are fugly, damn! Asics also dont have much of a design team...
  10. It all depends on what distance you have run before getting injured (Fitness pre injury). I would heal property and slowly getting into 10km mid week runs and building up. When you feeling strong again, do 10km back to back runs during the week and a few 21-30km runs on alternative weekend. ''They'' say that it is better to do many back to back shorter runs than less longer runs... Personally speaking, the biggest challenge for me (And most people) is 32km onwards in a marathon....
  11. Especially when you a BIG C virgin. We already silently shitting our pants, haha.
  12. I feel you! My running fitness is okay at the moment but my worry is over training. Just want to get a good time for the comrades qualifier...hopefully sub 4hr marathon
  13. Sooo, decided to give Comrades a bash next year! Time to get training! Races entered so far: 6th August - Vitality Series - Old Eds 21.1km 27th August - Vitality Series - Wanderers 21.1km 4th November - Kaapsehoop 42.2km **Comrades Qualifier**
  14. Entered for a good cause...even though I stay 1454km's from Tokai Good luck everyone!
  15. These type of events are definitely getting more popular in SA. Kudo's to the organisers. We did the Cullinan2Tonteldoos a few months ago and was a great race. Quite like the relay format of this one....tempted!
  16. Was a great ride. Finished in 19h35mins (12,000 calories later)! Was my first 24hr Ultra Mtb race so happy I finished - took A LOT of vasbyt towards the end though! The last climb was tough (Korfnek) and would of been nice with a waterpoint before this climb. Rode with someone that did 3 x trans baviaans who said he thought this event was harder. The organisation was good and had no problems with navigation.
  17. Looks like it is going to be rainy and wet out on the route this weekend. Hopefully not too much mud or else it will make 260km tough!!
  18. Got the 330. Will put it too the test it out on the Cullinan2Tonteldoos Ultra. Price was definitely a factor when looking at this unit. Bryton app is not as good as Polar/Garmin though..
  19. Just around the corner, hopefully all the training (or lack thereof) will get us through this event. Really looking forward to it!!
  20. I still personally condemn the destruction of public property, regardless of your situation. Its like an angry child throwing a tantrum because you didn't get your own way. Similar to cyclists complaining about the race not taking place. Know your rights BUT use them responsibly... Similar to the burning of schools... Whats next, a mass landslide after torrential rains due to the loffelstein retaining walls that those guys damaged and removed, who will ultimately pay the price..?
  21. I sincerely hope the City of Capetown mayoral committee take serious legal action against our striking brothers (assuming it is obviously an unprotected strike). Its about time that Unions/Politicians become liable for illegal disruptions... Can seriously impact on the events success in years to come..
  22. Awesome thanks. Did a 1h48mins on the last 21km that I did so fitness should be there. Just a double loop is another ball game.
  23. Running my first full marathon this weekend - Vaal Marathon. Really looking forward to it, bit nervous though but feel prepared. Any advice for a first timer......?
  24. Really getting excited for this! Its just around the corner now. The thought of starting a ride at 17:00 in the afternoon and riding into the night excites me!
  25. Rode Suikerbos yesterday, always an epic ride with good hills. A roadie had a massive fall on the first half (Apparently overcooked the corner). He was apparently injured very badly....any news?
